An iPhone in Different Colors Looks Fantastically Fun

I’ve never wanted an iPhone in different colors. Black with a tint of gloss or white with a silver lining has always been plenty enough. But then I saw these renders of what an iPhone in different colors would look like and man, a red iPhone looks like so much fun. More »

Why Is the Sky Any Color?

You probably think the sky is blue because of the ocean and air and reflections or something like that. But how does it turn red sometimes? Or orange? Or rather, why does the sky have to be any color at all? PBS explains it so you can explain it to your future kid. More »

Do Colors Look The Same For All of Us?

It’s probably one of the most basic philosophical questions of childhood; “What if what I see as red is what you see as green, and we just never know?!” Well childhood and stonerdom. OK, and maybe the rest of us too. It is, after all, an intriguing proposition that mankind’s understand of color is based on a sort of misunderstanding. This week, Vsauce is tackling the question with characteristic flair. And as always, the realities of the situation are a bit complicated, but it’s all the more interesting for it. [Vsauce] More »

Samsung flaunts amber brown, ruby wine Galaxy Note IIs to pair with your drapes

Samsung flaunts amber brown, wine Galaxy Note IIs to match your dinette set

Were you hoping to get that Galaxy Note II in a cooler color than marble or titanium gray, like maybe hotrod red? Would you settle for “amber brown” or “ruby wine,” to perhaps match that chaise lounge? That’s good, because Samsung has decided to out the 5.5-inch phablet in those trendily specific colors on January 17th, in Korea at least — though given the five million plus units sold so far, it’s earned the right to tint the Note II however it wants. The new hues will blanket the front, back and S-Pen of the device, but we’re not sure if we’re fashion-forward enough to rock “ruby wine” — especially on a loud & proud handset like that.

dreamGEAR i.Sound Glow Bluetooth Speaker Turns Your iPhone into a Discotheque

I just bought myself a bunch of those cool Philips Hue wireless lightbulbs, so I can now see the appeal of adding colored lights to a room to set the mood. But if you’re looking for more of a disco feeling rather than just solid colors, you might want to check out this new Bluetooth speaker coming from dreamGEAR.

isound glow

While it borrows its name from a dated old iPod nano dock, the upcoming i.Sound Glow Sound Bluetooth Speaker is a horse of several different colors. For starters, it’s a wireless audio speaker that works with smartphones, tablets and MP3 players. It can be connected via Bluetooth or a 3.5mm audio jack and music plays through its pair of full-range speakers. But what really sets it apart are the six glowing LED orbs on its face which can be set to automatically change color to go with your tunes. You’ll also be able to set the orbs to cycle through pre-programmed color patterns if you’d prefer.

Pricing and a release date for the i.Sound Glow Sound Bluetooth Speaker haven’t been announced yet, but dreamGEAR will likely be showing it at CES from January 8 to 11, 2013.

Samsung Galaxy Note II reportedly coming in black, triggers monolithic memories (update: fake!)

Samsung Galaxy Note II reportedly coming in black, still won't be stealthy

Samsung gave Galaxy S III buyers a small rainbow of color choices in the summer, and there’s signs that the Galaxy Note II might receive a similarly resplendent treatment. A supposed press image obtained by AndroidSlash shows the giant smartphone draped in a previously unavailable black that’s potentially very striking — and more than a little reminiscent of 2001‘s species-changing monoliths. There’s no official word from Samsung on its authenticity, although we wouldn’t be surprised knowing the company’s history and the Note II’s strong track record. When a theoretically niche device is selling like gangbusters, some added diversity could be in order. Just don’t expect any Starchildren as a result.

Update: Alas, this is indeed a fake. The source has updated to confirm that this was just a quick darkening job with an image editor — you can tell by the darkened LED flash, camera and logo. But still, we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung does release its phablet in other colors to keep milking it.

Here Is the Official Color of 2013

Pantone, the hoity toity decision council for everything we’re allowed to see, has announced the color of the year for 2013: green. Or well fine, emerald. It’s unclear what scientific process Pantone goes through to determine what the COTY is (other than complete arbitrariness) but hey, emerald’s a nice color. More »

Verizon Galaxy S III now available in black and brown

Verizon teased on Monday that black and brown models of Samsung’s Galaxy S III would be coming soon, but mum was the word on exactly how quickly that would be. Turns out, it was real fast. The pair of smartphones are now available at the carrier’s online storefront with a $199.99 price tag for those who don’t mind a two-year commitment with Big Red. If the new shades strike your fancy, hit the source link below to give one (or two) of the devices a new home.

Verizon teases black and brown Galaxy S III models for the subtle crowd

Verizon teases black and brown Galaxy S III models for the subtle crowd

AT&T might have nabbed Verizon’s color for the Galaxy S III, but that doesn’t mean Big Red subscribers will be left out. The CDMA carrier has just posted a rotating teaser on its home page promising the low-key black and brown versions of Samsung’s flagship sometime “soon,” with availability sign-ups on hand for the impatient. That’s all we know for now, although history suggests there won’t be a premium over the $200 contract price of the existing blue and white models. We’re hoping the new shades of Galaxy come soon — Verizon’s offering will be the first chance most Americans have to get the Android phone in muted colors and relive the glory days of brown electronics.
