LEGO Island is a Really Negative Place

Here’s a neat LEGO trick that I haven’t seen before. Made by husband and wife team Sean and Steph Mayo, their Invert Island enlists the help of your computer to show off its trick:

That is not the actual appearance of Invert Island. Here’s what it really looks like:

As you may have deduced, the island was made with blocks that have the inverse colors of the objects they’re supposed to represent. If you want to see the switch for yourself, just hold alt+shift+print screen on your keyboard if you’re using a PC, ctrl+option+command+8 if you’re on a Mac (or follow these directions if you’re on Mountain Lion.) Of course, there are other ways to invert the colors of your browser or screen. I highly suggest you head to Sean and Steph’s Flickr page so you can switch while viewing the high resolution image of the island.

Sony PlayStation Vita Sapphire Blue hands-on (video)

Sony PlayStation Vita Sapphire Blue handson video

After breaking from cover at yesterday’s pre-TGS presser, the two new PlayStation Vita color variants have gotten cozy at the Sony booth on the show floor. Unlike the quick photo opp that we snagged a few hours ago, we were able to actually fondle the “sapphire blue” model in all its metallic-hued glory. Speaking of shiny exteriors, both the blue and red schemes feature a bit of sparkle along with the slathering of new paint. The duo look quite glittery, giving the two some added flair over the regular ol’ black and white versions in addition to the color change. The hardware is the same as the existing models and the key difference is strictly visual. As you can see in the gallery below, the backsides of these Vitas is also covered with the same shimmering color as their facades. The pair will arrive in Japan in November and we’re keeping a close watch on availability elsewhere.

Sony’s PlayStation Vita gets a blue and red-hued makeover, we take a closer look (eyes-on)

Sony's PlayStation Vita gets a blue and redhued makeover, we take a closer look eyeson

After the new PS3s had their moment in the spotlight at Sony’s pre-TGS press event, the company also announced color variants for the PS Vita. We weren’t able to fondle the pair just yet, the key difference is quite obvious: “cosmic red” and “sapphire blue” exteriors. Both of the new models share the same glossy coating as the original model, so they’re sure to attract your fingerprints. These two round out the paint schemes at four when you include the “crystal white” version that’s already been unveiled. While we snag a spot in line for a hands-on at the Sony booth, take a peek at the gallery that follows for a quick look at the duo.

You Can Finally Customize Your Jambox To Be As Ugly As You Want It [Speakers]

Starting today, Klout users and “Jawbone Insiders” can customize the color of their Jambox speaker on Jawbone’s new Jambox Remix site. Klout and the uglification of a perfectly good speaker sounds like a match made in heaven; the rest of the world will have to wait until August 28th for the privelege of mucking up their own, though. Jawbone takes a cue from Colorware, will let customers order the Jambox speaker in custom colors

Want a blue-and-black Bluetooth speaker to match your Engadget t-shirt, messenger bag and whatever other paraphernalia you have lying around? You’re in luck: Jawbone is about to start accepting orders for the Jambox speaker in custom colors. All told, you’ll be able to choose from 13 shades for the grill, and nine for the end caps. Jawbone says it can see customers choosing school and team colors, not that you need an excuse to want an orange piece of kit. The personalization is free of charge, meaning the price of the speaker is still $200. The only downside, so far as we can tell, is that the Big Jambox isn’t included. For now, the site is only open to select users (i.e., loyal customers who have participated in company forums, surveys and such), but starting August 28th it’ll be open to everybody. In the meantime, which of you has the cojones to order it in purple and yellow?
