Acer and Nvidia Launch 3D Monitors
Posted in: NVIDIA, Today's Chili
Acer is trying to get into more fancy niches by taking a bite into the 3D world. The company is releasing a 3D monitor which will allow users who have computers that can handle 3D to enjoy the experience. However, this is not a glasses-free 3D monitor. You will be required to buy a pair of glasses from Nvidia.
Acer, who does not have the technology for 3D support, had to go to Nvidia who is the only one that has support for it. Thus both companies had to make a deal in order to create the device itself.
The monitors come in two sizes, a 23.6-inch and a 27-inch monitor at $449 and $689, respectively. The glasses required for 3D will cost you $119 a pair.

Toshiba recently created the perfect hard drive that will allow your data to be safe and still accessible. The MKxx61GSYG Series Hard Disk Drives know when it has been installed in a different machine, which then allows it to erase all of the data and encryption keys as well. Thus,Toshiba claims no one can steal your data.
While this sounds like a good idea, some people will argue that this might be an issue for those who want to use the same hard drive on a new computer. However, Toshiba seems to be marketing this new technology not to home users, but to business users. If that is the case, it could be a life saver for many companies.
The new hard drives have a wide range of sizes starting with a 160GB to 640GB. No price was released or slated date for them to hit retail stores.
Thunderbolt to Beat Out USB 3.0?
Posted in: intel, thunderbolt, Today's Chili, usb
At last, Intel’s wish may come true. There are reports that the Thunderbolt technology might cut off the USB 3.0, before the USB update even takes off. Or at least that is what some people are guessing.
Despite that Intel has been mocked for the Thunderbolt, Intel has stood beside it. Unlike Apple who used FireWire in the past, which later flopped, it appears to have a strong fan base. More companies appear to be looking into adopting it, as we reported last week. No word on why some experts are claiming that the Thunderbolt will beat out the widely used USB’s next generation.
No study has been released, nor has the USB 3.0 officially been rolled out. However, one of Thunderbolts strong points is that it supports both USB, FireWire, and, many of the other common ports used today.

Intel is looking to expand the Thunderbolt brand, which means Intel wants other companies to buy into the new technology quickly. So Intel is doing something about it by sending interested companies kits about the Thunderbolt technology. As of currently, Apple is the only brand that is using the new technology.
Intel has not listed the names of the other companies who have expressed interest. However, we can assume that it will be other computer manufactures. That does not mean in the near future other uses will be found.
Intel has not said if any company is planning to use it besides Apple at this point, but it looks hopeful that it could wind up being a widely accepted technology.

Apple has high hopes for the Thunderbolt technology that recently was released. Apple and Intel have teamed up to incorporate it into the new MacBook Pro. But now Apple is looking to expand the line of devices that use Thunderbolt. It patented a new connector to incorporate the Thunderbolt technology even further. Apple has yet to release info on any more devices getting the technology anytime soon.
Apple has shown major support of Intel and Thunderbolt by choosing it for the MacBook Pro; however, not everybody is a fan of Thunderbolt. AMD and others have predicted that the new technology will flop like FireWire.

Japan is the home of 25 percent of all chips being manufactured. Most of that manufacturing has been damaged or stopped to the recent massive quake. Twenty-five percent of all chips produced will be delayed until further notice.
No word on how it will affect the computer industry. However, it could lead to a chip shortage for a few months.
