Combinecollective.jpg

For all you hardcore Apple hipsters looking to organize all your Mac peripherals, Combine Collective may be able to help you out.

The company has unveiled three black walnut keyboard trays. The first can house your wireless keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and remote as one unit. The second will hold your keyboard and Trackpad; and the third will house just your keyboard.

As a bonus Combine Collective has said that the trays are all sustainable, using “whole and solid-joined hardwoods, water based glue, and a food safe oil finish to make them.”

The keyboard trays will run you about $79, $74, or $69 depending on how much organizing your desk needs.

Another AppStore; This Time from Intel

find-appsintel.jpg

We don’t need yet another online app store. Consumers are surrounded by them, and developers don’t want yet another store they have to learn to develop for. But Intel went ahead with its plans and the AppUp center is nearing reality.

Currently available only to folks with a Intel-processor based netbook running Windows (talk about a very specific target audience), AppUp will sell Adobe Air and  Microsoft Silverlight applications, as well as apps from Barnes & Noble, KONAMI, Accuweather, and Gibson Guitars.

The store will offer free and paid apps. There will be a “try before you buy” option to weed out undesirable apps.

Vive la Vinyl, Vive la (Crosley) Revolution!

crosley-revolution.jpeg
Don’t toss that collection of vinyl records just yet. Crosley has an interesting take on the venerable record player with its Crosley Revolution CR6002A.

Resembling nothing like the giant turntables of old, the Revolution CR6002A is portable, has a built-in handle, and runs on six AA batteries. It has both 33 1/3 and 45 rpm speeds, an integrated FM transmitter, and integrated full-range dynamic stereo speakers. There’s also a headphone jack on the turntable.

The record dangles over the edges and is a little exposed, so you would need to be careful when playing, but the portable Revolution makes vinyl convenient.

With the FM transmitter, you can listen to the vinyl over anything with a FM receiver, whether that’s your stereo with the receiver, or a portable mp3 player. Again, convenient.

When connected to a computer via USB, you can turn those records in to digital tracks using the accompanying software.

Currently available for $149.99 online or at select retailers like Hammacher Schlemmer, Brookstone and JC Penney. If looking for something other than the basic black, Urban Outfitters sells custom Revolutions in red, ivory, and mint.

Logitech Unveils New Trackball

Wireless Trackball M570.png

What’s this? A giant ergonomic mouse? Why no, it’s just the latest Logitech trackball. The Wireless Trackball M570 promises “a different level of comfort and control.” It features a laser tracking sensor, back and forward buttons, programmable buttons for shortcuts, adjustable speed, and a scroll wheel.

Logitech seems especially excited about the small wireless receiver, a little USB nub that’s barely visible when plugged into your PC. The receiver can also be stored in the mouse itself when not in use. The receiver connects via 2.4 GHz wireless.

The trackball runs off of two AA batteries. According to Logitech, it should get up to 18 months on a single pair.

The Logitech Wireless Trackball M570 is arriving later this month for $59.99. You can pre-order it now from the company’s site.

Adorable Apples: Top Apple Accessories on Etsy

sharkipod.jpg

Remember when the design of Apple’s products used to celebrate all the varied colors of life? Remember brightly-hued iMacs and vibrant life-affirming iBooks? Remember the rainbow bar Apple logo?

Remember?

Since the turn of the millennium, the Apple design team seems to have been largely mired in a Macbeth-like state of woe. The morose Cupertinians have spent the better part of the past decade embellishing their products all that is monochromatic, empty, and sad. Apple products of late imbue the all the clean cold stoicism of Steve Jobs’ turtle neck sweater. Lifeless. Joyless. Dead on the inside.

Enter Etsy.

Etsy has long been the preferred internet venue for kitchen table entrepreneurs looking to share their handmade crafts with the adorable-accessory-seeking world. And no group has been hungrier for hand-crafted squees than Apple users. And a vast army of Etsyians have responded in spades to fill the apple-shaped void of sadness.

There are many many Apple accessories over there in Etsyland, but here are just a few after the jump that could brighten your gizmo’s day.

ThinkPads Power Hub: Power Charger and USB Hub in One

Lenovo-Power-Hub.jpg
Sometimes, you just need more USB ports. And when you are on the go, having a separate USB hub is not the most practical or economical use of space. If you own a ThinkPad, the Lenovo Power Hub is a nifty solution to give you that extra port when you need it.

The Lenovo Power Hub is actually a ThinkPad power charger. The power brick plugs into the wall like you normally would, and it also has a USB cable that plugs in to a port on your machine. With this setup, you can power your laptop as usual, and connect up to four other devices at the same time. Three of the ports have USB 2.0 data transfer capabilities, so you can access the information on your devices while plugged in. The fourth port is a dedicating power charging port.

The Power Hub supports Lenovo’s 65-watt and 90-watt laptops. The hub is compatible with the ThinkPad Edge series, L series, SL series, T series, and X series. It also works with the X200 Tablet and X201 Tablet models.

The power charger can keep charging the devices even if the laptop is not plugged into the brick. It’s not clear whether Lenovo will include the Power Hub in their laptop bundles for sale.

The Power Hub is available right now for $74.99. The delights of always having your products powered up and ready? Priceless.

LG Unveils New Thin High-End IPS Displays

LG IPS DisplayFans of Apple displays will tell you that despite their price tag, an Apple display will net you excellent color quality and broad viewing angles. This is partially due to the fact that Apple displays (and many other manufacturer’s premium monitors) are IPS panels, as opposed to the more common TN panels on most consumer LCD displays. Now LG is getting into the mix, and has unveiled four new displays that feature IPS panels, including the new 20-inch LG IPS206T, the 21.5-inch IPS226V, and the 23-inch IPS236V and IPS231P models. Each one is LED-backlit, less than 20mm thick, and the 21.5 and 23-inch versions are capable of full HD resolution at 1920×1080 pixels. The new panels also feature 6ms response rates and near-180 degree viewing angles.

All of the new models come in glossy black with transparent trim, with the IPS231P standing out as the professional model and featuring on board speakers and a tilt/swivel stand. The new displays were unveiled at the IFA electronics event in Germany, but pricing and availability weren’t included in the announcement.

All News All The Time via Excalibur News Ticker

Excalibur-Wireless-Ticker.jpg
A clock with a built-in news feed, the Excalibur Wireless News Ticker lets you know the latest sports scores and weather forecasts at a glance.

If you are a news junkie, you need all your info the second you open your eyes. You want your fix before you reach over to turn on your phone, or get in front of the computer.

The black on gray display displays local weather, a calendar, time, and a RSS feed from your favorite sites. The RSS feed scrolls through, updating with new items as they are posted. The wireless device gets the RSS feeds from the PC via a USB dongle.

Currently, the Wireless News Ticker is meant only for Windows, and there is some initial software setup required to program the RSS channels. These channels are fed to the News Ticker wirelessly, so it needs to be placed somewhere within the range of the USB dongle.

The wireless clock uses four AA batteries.

Excalibur has teamed up with Weather Channel and Fox Sports to offer branded versions of the Wirless News Ticker with their particular news highlighted. There is also an Excalibur-branded model. Regardless of the branded version, all models can be programmed to display any RSS feed.

It just went through FCC so there is no official pricing or information on when the devices will be available on store shelves. The holiday season seems like a safe bet.
