Seagate Offers External Drive Protection Plans Called Rescue And Replace

We know one of the main reasons why most people purchase an external hard drive is in order to keep those files that are most precious to them off of their computer. The last thing you want to happen is for your computer to completely shut down, leaving your memorable photos, music and any other important documents completely inaccessible. But sometimes, backup storage solutions could fail as well, which is why Seagate is announcing its new Rescue and Replace plans.

Facebook Introduces New Tools For Surfacing Conversations Over The Social Network

Facebook Introduces New Tools For Surfacing Conversations Over The Social NetworkFacebook has just announced that broadcasters such as CNN, NBC and Sky are able to gain direct access to your public wall posts – especially those that touch on trending topics, before embedding them in their shows for added effect. This would mean whatever you say, if deemed interesting enough, might actually make it to national TV without your express permission. Not only that, news organizations are also capable of generating real-time infographics to wow the audience (hopefully), in order to gauge the state of the nation and show, down to the smallest detail.

Basically, Facebook is a pretty good benchmark to use to figure out if folks are talking about something at that point in time, be it the latest fashion trend, the most recent news, one’s outrage at how sexism still happens on mainstream media especially in the tech world, in addition to the latest TV show. For instance, in last week’s kick-off of the NFL season, it managed to pick up more than 20 million likes, comments, and shares on Facebook – all through an “audience” of 8 million people thereabouts. Do you happen to like the new level of detail and integration that Facebook has with news outlets and the like? [Press Release]

Xbox Music For iOS And Android Being Prepped

Xbox Music For iOS And Android Being PreppedIt seems that the Xbox Music subscription music streaming service will be expanded to work on rival mobile platforms – namely iOS and Android, where it will also feature a free Web player that will obviously cost you nary a single cent because it will be ad supported. Microsoft hopes to further expand the reach of their Xbox Music streaming service through the launch of corresponding apps via the iOS and Android mobile operating systems.

In the past, Xbox Music was only available only to users of devices that ran on the Windows platform, but it seems that the service would now enable users of both Android and iOS devices to be able to subscribe, where in turn they would receive unlimited access to their preferred music via the Xbox Music Pass. This Xbox Music Pass will retail for $9.99 per month, or $99.99 per year, depending on the length that suits you better. The Web player, as mentioned earlier, will be on an ad-supported basis, or you can take the ad-free route by forking out a little bit of dough. Users of the free Web service will be able to enjoy on-demand access to 30 million songs, now how about that for variety, eh?

Yahoo Reportedly Hands Over User Data To Australian Government

Yahoo Reportedly Hands Over User Data To Australian GovernmentIt has been alleged that Yahoo (with a spanking new logo) has been handing over private and personal information that affect hundreds of its users to Australian government agents, according to a recently revealed transparency report. Apparently, in the first half of 2013 itself, Australian government agents have already performed 704 requests for access to data that are part of 799 Yahoo accounts or users. Of course, full access to all 799 accounts were not granted, but rather, only 11 of those requests were approved of. Just what kind of information exchanged hands? Well, we are referring to the content of Yahoo emails, uploaded files and Yahoo address, calendar and notepad entries.

Not only that, Yahoo has also allegedly passed on so-called “non-content data”, as part of a response to 305 of the requests, which in turn would allow government agents to gain access to information including the names, locations, IP addresses, login details and billing information belonging to Yahoo account holders. Out of the 799 requests, Yahoo rejected 242 of them, and did not find any data in 146 of the cases. Compared to US government agents, Australian agents were pretty “mild” as their US counterparts made 12,444 requests for data which were related to 40,322 Yahoo accounts or users in the first six months of 2013. Regardless, do you think that one request alone is already too many?

Samsung ATIV Q Will Not Be Launched This Year

Samsung ATIV Q Will Not Be Launched This Year

Earlier this year, Samsung announced the ATIV Q which was a rather interesting hybrid device which ran both Windows and Android at the same time. However there were apparently some patent issues that Samsung ran into regarding the ATIV Q that led to rumors that Samsung could be cancelling the device because of that, which is definitely a bummer of sorts to those who were looking forward to getting their hands on the product sometime later this year. Well the semi-good news is that Samsung has not cancelled the ATIV Q, but neither will it be launching this year.

This is according to German website, AllAboutSamsung whom Samsung confirmed the news to, stating that the launch of the ATIV Q will not be happening this year. This does not sound like the device has been cancelled, and we’re guessing the earliest we could then see the device would be in 2014. We’ll keep our ears open for more news regarding the ATIV Q, but what do you guys think? Are you a bit bummed that this interesting hybrid will not be available for purchase this year? Or is the mixture of Windows and Android a little too gimmicky for your tastes?
