Lenovo LT2934z 29-Inch Panoramic Monitor

Lenovo LT2934z 29 Inch Panoramic MonitorAs the title indicates the Lenovo LT2934Z is a “panoramic” monitor that has an unusual aspect ratio of 21:9 which is way beyond 16:9 as you can see on the photo (33% more viewing area than an equivalent 16:9 screen, in fact).  This monitor is based on an IPS LCD panel, so the viewing angle is very wide with a 178 degrees in both horizontal and vertical axis. Lenovo says that it can reproduce 100% of the sRGB color gamut, which may be of interest to designers and photographers.

Windows 8 Finally Surpasses OS X’s Market Share

Windows 8 Finally Surpasses OS Xs Market ShareWhile the Windows platform in general is obviously a more popular operating system than Apple’s OS X and other platforms, the numbers might vary when looking at individual versions, such as Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 8, and etc. Well the good news for Microsoft is that while Windows 8 might not have taken off the way that the company had envisioned, unlike Windows XP and Windows 7 which were both hits, the operating system has finally managed to surpass the overall installation base for Apple’s OS X operating system.

This is according to the latest figures from Net Applications that shows Windows 8 commanding 7.41% market share which is slightly above the overall OS X install base which sits at around 7.3%. One of the reasons Windows 8 has been slow in growth is possibly due to the major changes that Microsoft introduced that resulted in many users feeling frustrated and confused at the start. Microsoft is hoping to change that with the upcoming Windows 8.1 update that will bring back some old features, like the Start button for example, amongst other things.

Ivy Bridge-E Processors Expected To Be Unveiled At IDF 2013

Ivy Bridge E Processors Expected To Be Unveiled At IDF 2013

The Intel Developer Forum 2013 takes place between September 10th and September 12th at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California. The agenda includes keynotes, technical sessions and technology showcases. Intel is expected to unveil the Bay Trail-T platform at the IDF. According to new report from the infamous trade publication Digitimes, the chip maker will also be unveiling the high-end Ivy Bridge-E series processors at IDF 2013, this according to sources from “PC players.”

Asus, Lenovo and Acer are expected to showcase their Bay Trail-T based tablets at the event. As far as the high-end Ivy Bridge-E processors are concerned, sources say that they will not be locked to “satisfy” users’ overclocking needs. The Ivy Bridge-E based 6-core 3.6Ghz Core i7-4960X, 3.4GHz Core i7-4930K and quadcore 3.7GHz Core i7-4820K are rumored to be released. These three processors will reportedly adopt the LGA 2011 socket and will support the X79 chipset, PCI-Express Gen 3.0 and DDR3 memory. The sources cited in the report believe that these new processors might be priced as high as $999. Intel hasn’t said anything as yet regarding these new Ivy Bridge-E processors and its highly unlikely that any official information about pricing and availability will be provided prior to the Intel Developer Forum 2013.

Twitter Beta Test App On Android

Twitter Beta Test App On AndroidTwitter does seem as though they are about to take advantage of Google’s new system when it comes to beta testing apps, offering a new version of the social media app to those who are willing to give this app a go. If you happen to have this gung-ho attitude and love stepping out into the (relative) unknown, then you will first need to join a Google Group via your Google+ account, before choosing to voluntarily become a tester. Upon doing so, you will find the new version of the app being delivered to you via the Google Play store.

To date, it seems that both Snapchat and Facebook happened to be high-profile users of Google’s beta testing system, where they used it to gain user feedback in order to further refine and enhance their mobile apps. Right now, it is not possible to run the existing, stable version of the Twitter app in addition to the beta version, so it is a decision that you will have to make for yourself. If you want to be a beta tester, be prepared to go through a variety of known and of course, unknown bugs and glitches. Hey, there is a price to pay for everything, and at least you get to brag to your mates if all goes well.

The Keyboard As You Know It Could Be Rendered Obsolete

The Keyboard As You Know It Could Be Rendered ObsoleteResearchers over at Microsoft such as Andy Wilson have recently invited others folk including the head of Information and Computing Sciences department at SRI, Bill Mark, in order to kick off a discussion on the future of keyboards – or at the very least, the physical QWERTY keyboard that we have all come to know, love, and use on a daily basis. The general consensus among this particular group? Computer keyboards as we know them probably would not have much of a future. This particular group of like minded people claim that newer technologies, including touchscreen displays as well as eye tracking devices will replace the keyboard for most people sometime down the future, although as to the exact time period where that moment will arrive remains to be seen.

Wilson shared, “Eventually, [keyboards] will become more of a niche thing, like programmers for example. You could almost see that with the workstation market. Workstations are going to be these altars to extreme computing, visualization, computational power, Visual Studio. And only a small percentage of users do that.”

Perhaps there is the implication that keyboards will eventually be limited to only a niche market – where they would comprise of professionals or creative experts. Mark continued from where Wilson left off, “When you think about a pen — or something like a pen, going back to a stylus writing in clay — that’s been around for a really long time. That’s because it works very well in certain situations. My personal feeling is that keyboards will be like that. However, I think we’ll be seeing them a lot less …”
