Games For Windows Live Marketplace To Shut Down On August 22

Games For Windows Live Marketplace To Shut Down On August 22Let us take stock of the situation and pause for a moment of silence please, for the soon-to-be dearly departed. Microsoft has announced that they will shut down its Games for Windows Live marketplace from August 22nd onwards, at least according to this particular segment of the Xbox.com support page. This bit of news concerning the closure of the Xbox.com PC marketplace would be accompanied by the switch from Microsoft Points to local currency in addition to a new Xbox 360 system update.

The support notice mentioned, “As part of the recent Xbox 360 system update, Microsoft Points will be retired and the Xbox.com PC Marketplace will be closed as of August 22, 2013. We encourage you to spend your Microsoft Points balance prior to this change. Although you will not be able to purchase new games, you can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading it through the Games for Windows Live client software as usual.”

Of course, this particular upcoming change would not see the demise of Games for Windows Live, only the ability to purchase games via Microsoft’s store. The Games for Windows Live service will still continue to operate normally, so you can breathe easy there now, gamer.

Online Pot Hunt Results In Man Getting Laid Off

Online Pot Hunt Results In Man Getting Laid OffThey say that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and in the case of a Canadian man who happens to have a Twitter account, his online search for marijuana resulted in him getting fired. Sunith Baheerathan did raise up quite the online stir when he first tweeted his request for some marijuana, better known as pot. In his tweet, he requested prospective pot sellers to deliver their “goods” to Baheerathan’s work place – that is, a Mr. Lube location in a Toronto suburb.

Baheerathan tweet that raised a fair number of eyebrows read as follows, “Any dealers in Vaughan wanna make a 20sac chop? Come to Keele/Langstaff Mr. Lube, need a spliff.” Needless to say, this particular tweet eventually went viral, and with that, it also managed to catch the attention of the local police who retorted using the York Regional Police’s official Twitter feed, “Awesome! Can we come too?” Shortly after that, Baheerathan tweeted that he has just been terminated, although the cause of his termination has not been officially attributed to his online activities.

Baheerathan was obviously not too happy about his situation, tweeting, “I’ve lost complete hope in society man. There’s killers/rapists/people missing and all they care about is a dude asking for weed” and “Gotta watch what you tweet nowadays, even the freedom of speech & the right to an entitled opinion isn’t safe.” I guess plenty of people mix up freedom of speech with the responsibilities that come with it, just like how Baheerathan did.

Windows 8.1 Ships With Skype Pre-Installed

Windows 8.1 Ships With Skype Pre InstalledAt the end of June, there were whispers that Skype could be integrated into Windows 8.1 as Microsoft had already decided to drop Messenger along the way. Well, there is nothing quite like some patience to wait things out and see whether the rumors in question would pan out eventually or not, and here we are with official word from Microsoft themselves that Windows 8.1 will ship with Skype pre-installed, now how about that?

This means folks who have yet to download and install the instant messaging/VoIP client will be able to enjoy it after they perform an operating system upgrade, or alternatively, pick up a machine that runs on Windows 8.1 as the operating system of choice. Existing Skype users would not notice any changes, but with this happening, we could very well see a leap in the overall Skype adoption rate, assuming that sales of new Windows 8.1-powered machines pick up. At the very least, this bit of news would mean you are able to get connected to another person right from the get go (assuming you already have a Skype account in the first place) without having to go through a pesky installation experience whenever you pick up a new Windows 8.1 machine. Washington Post Website Hacked By Syrian Electronic Army

Washington Post Website Hacked By Syrian Electronic ArmyThe Syrian Electronic Army has certainly carved quite a name for themselves by now, claiming a fair number of high profile scalps just this year alone. Well, their latest “victim” would be the most recent plaything of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, as we have learned that the Washington Post’s website has been hacked, and a select bunch of users who tried to access its stories have been redirected to the page of Syrian Electronic Army. The Syrian Electronic Army’s political stance is pretty much set – this particular group provides full backing to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and the Washington Post is currently working to ensure that their site is fixed as soon as possible, without listing out just which article pages will point to the Syrian Electronic Army.

As mentioned earlier, there were several high profile targets that were hit by the Syrian Electronic Army earlier this year, and some of them do share one thing in common – they are news organizations. For instance, this April the Syrian Electronic Army claimed to have infiltrated the Associated Press’ Twitter account, posting an erroneous message that Olympus has fallen – nay, the White House had been bombed. Not only that, the Financial Times was also hacked not long after that. This just makes us wonder who is next in line, if any.
