unPC Computer Is A Sexist Comedian

unPC Computer Is A Sexist ComedianWhoever said that computers did not have a sense of humor? I know that in the world of science fiction movies and the ilk, computers tend to be on a homicidal warpath – such as HAL 9000, or the Skynet system that decided to purge the earth of humans, unleashing an army of Terminators upon mankind. Perhaps computers would learn how to chill, and scientists from the University of Edinburgh might have just done exactly that, thanks to a computer program which was specially designed “to find unlikely pairings of words and to make a connection between them.”

Interestingly enough, when the software ran, it unwittingly released a bunch of sexist material and at times, gibberish. Who would have thought that something unfeeling might end up with sexist jokes, although if one were to look at the entire situation objectively, it could be a programming flaw that resulted in the unPC (as it is called) deliver such misogyny, instead of being a machine tendency to do so which would really be out of whack if that were to be true. It more or less churned up jokes that compared men or women with another object, including “I like my women like I like my gas … natural.” Of course, there were also misses such as “I like my men like I like my court … superior.”, but then again, it is still a work in progress.

Google Chrome Carries Danger Of Exposing User Passwords

Google Chrome Carries Danger Of Exposing User PasswordsYour personal information is definitely very precious to you, which is why you should take all the possible and necessary steps to prevent any kind of personal information from getting stolen or abused. Passwords are one sensitive area which we have had to talk about in recent memory, and unfortunately for those who use Google’s Chrome web browser, you run the danger of having your user passwords exposed, “courtesy” of a security flaw within the Chrome browser itself. In a nutshell, this particular flaw would enable just about anyone who is able to gain access to a user’s computer in order to check out the slew of stored passwords straight from the settings panel itself.

Credit to software developer Elliott Kember for discovering this when he was importing his bookmarks from Apple’s Safari browser to Google Chrome. Kember realized that it was “mandatory” to import saved passwords from one browser to the other, and he did not feel quite right about that. After snooping around, he realized that Google does offer protection for the passwords from being viewed whenever a user is logged in and has Chrome up and running. All one needs to do is head on to the advanced settings page, click on the “Passwords and forms” option, and follow that up with “Manage saved passwords”.

Another way of doing so would be to type “chrome://settings/passwords” into one’s browser search bar, and clicking the ‘show’ button located next to a list of obscured passwords will do accordingly – revealing the passwords in plain text.

New Yahoo Logo Coming This September 4th

Internet icon Yahoo looks set to get a totally new logo by the time September 4th rolls around, and this would mark a milestone since it would be the first time its distinctive logo would have undergone a change in nearly twenty years. The exclamation mark has extraordinary staying power, however, as Yahoo will be showcasing 30 different logos on its homepage throughout the course of the next four weeks, and when September 4th arrives, one out of the 30 logos will take over as the new corporate logo, as Jon Swartz of USA Today reports.

While the final decision has yet to be made, the company intends to show off various looks to reflect its so-called “renaissance” under its new CEO, Marissa Mayer. The video above, known as “30 days of change” is part of a marketing campaign that will hopefully deliver a bold, new look at the end of it. Do you think you will like or loathe the new logo when it finally rolls out? Only time will tell. What was your reaction to Microsoft’s new logo after 25 years? You can check out what could possibly be Yahoo’s new logo right after the jump.

MSI GS70 Is Thinnest And Lightest 17” Gaming Notebook

MSI GS70 Is Thinnest And Lightest 17” Gaming NotebookMSI is no stranger to gaming notebooks in the past, and here we are with yet another model that looks set to burn up benchmark scores – with the MSI GS70, which has been touted by MSI to be the “world’s thinnest and lightest” 17-inch gaming notebook, where it was specially designed in order to fuse the power required so that it can tackle even the most demanding games, without sacrificing on portability. Of course, anything that is 17” in my opinion is not going to cut the mustard should it be used as your showfloor coverage device – that is what Ultrabooks and the MacBook Air are for. This, our dear readers, is meant to let you get your gaming fix on the go – without feeling too homesick for your souped up rig.

The MSI GS70 will feature the latest 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor underneath the hood, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M graphics card, 16GB RAM, a quartet of USB 3.0 ports, a 720p HD webcam, Killer DoubleShot NIC, a 17” Full HD anti-reflective display, a 2.1 speaker system, and a SteelSeries full color backlit keyboard with Anti-Ghosting keys. Not only that, the entire shebang measures under 1” thin, tipping the scales at a mere 5.7 lbs. Before the days of the Ultrabook and MacBook Air, this would’ve been a modern miracle, but right now, it is a notch lower – just an exceptionally constructed gaming laptop. Expect it to start from $1,799.99 onwards, there will be two configurations to choose from. [Press Release] and [Product Page]

    US3 Drive Is A Triple-Function Accessory

US3 Drive Is A Triple Function AccessoryWe happen to live in a world where there is plenty of convergence going on – our smartphones are called exactly that simply because they do a whole lot more than just make and receive calls and text messages. Your modern day smartphone can control toilets, too, among numerous other things. Well, it makes perfect sense for a smartphone accessory to play different roles at various times, too, and this is where the US3 Drive comes in – it is a waterproof USB flash drive, while being able to function as a stylus and a smartphone stand, as and when required.

The thing is, it is a Kickstarter project at the moment, and is still short of its goal by $15,000 thereabouts, although there are still 40 days more to go for the masses to believe and back this project. The US3 Drive prides itself in being a 3-in-1 multi-purpose device in a small package, and would play nice with the entire slew of Android- and iOS-powered smartphones. It will arrive in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities (thanks to Samsung for the memory chips used), with a choice of either black or white colors. [Kickstarter Page]

Google Chrome To Receive New Touch Based Features Soon

Google Chrome To Receive New Touch Based Features Soon

Google Chrome is undoubtedly one of the most widely used web browsers around the world. It is available on a number of platforms, such as Windows, Mac, iOS and Google’s very own Android. It appears that the company is currently readying a couple of new touch based features for the web browser, which have already been rolled out in the nightly Canary test build. First up is the new slide-to-navigate feature, which will allow users to swipe left or right to go either back or forward in a web page.

The Chrome team is apparently experimenting with the pinch-to-zoom feature as well. Chrome Canary build flags reveal an “enable pinch scale” option, which works by using the fingers to zoom in to the web page. Chrome definitely needs to have a few touch based feature, given the fact that the company has already released its touchscreen Chromebook pixel notebook. Moreover, a host of Windows 8 touchscreen laptops are also available in the market, their users are likely to use Google Chrome as their default web browser. The new minor features are currently being tested out, they’re likely to be released in the final build, which may roll out in the near future.
