Facebook Does Not Ban Violent Clips On Social Network

Facebook Does Not Ban Violent Clips On Social NetworkSo far, there has been concerns raised surrounding videos that were spread using Facebook as the vehicle of choice, where people were being decapitated in said video. This has moved a member of Facebook’s own safety advisory board to inform the masses that they will raise this particular issue with the social network. Having done that, Facebook has turned down the possibility of entertaining any request that will ban such clips, touting that people had a right to depict the actual world as it is.

The US’s Family Online Safety Institute, however, begged to differ, having informed the BBC that the graphic nature of the violence involved would mean that such material had “crossed a line”. Stephen Balkam, the chief executive of the US’s Family Online Safety Institute, said, “Personally and professionally I feel that Facebook has got this call wrong. “ Not only that, charities in the UK have also asked Facebook to reconsider its stance, touting that such material could eventually result in long-term psychological damage since you had no idea who would be watching the one-minute long video that depicted a woman being beheaded by a masked man.

American Airlines Says Pilot Injuries Reduced As iPads Replace Flight Bags

It was back in 2011 when pilots of American Airlines started using an iPad app instead of printed navigation charts. Later that same year, in December, the FAA allowed AA pilots to use iPads in all phases of a flight. American Airlines is the only carrier that has been allowed to do this, pilots can use their iPads even when the aircraft is below 10,000ft. The airline has said that all of its 8.600 pilots will be touting iPads by the end of this month instead of the traditional 40 pound flight bags. These iPads will contain over 3,000 pages worth of charts and manuals that will be updated digitally.

American Airlines has also said that eliminating the need for those heavy flight bags has virtually eliminated the number one reason of pilot injuries. Not only that, it saves the airline over $1 million in fuel costs and makes it more eco-friendly as revisions don’t have to be printed on paper any more. The airline has also equipped 16,000 of its flight attendants with the 5.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note which they will use to keep track of meal services for premium passengers, weather updates, seat assignments and a lot more.

Samsung’s New DDR3 RAM To Provide PC Like Performance For Mobile Devices

Samsungs New DDR3 RAM To Provide PC Like Performance For Mobile Devices

Samsung has announced the first production of 4GB DDR3 mobile RAM. This ultra high speed RAM promises to deliver PC like performance, transmitting up to 2,133 Mbps of data per pin, on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Its a 20 nanometer class produced low power mobile DRAM that can provide support for high performance demanding multimedia features on next generation devices. Samsung says that when compared to the previous low power DDR3 30 nanometer class RAM, this new chip decreases power consumption by up to 20% and boots up performance by 30%.

This memory chip provides enough support to a mobile device that it can easily transmit three full HD videos that collectively total 17GB in length in one second. It also enables seamless playback of full 1080p HD video on smartphones that have displays of more than 5 inches. What this basically means is that high-end next generation devices will pack even more of a punch in terms of performance, when this RAM is coupled with quad or octacore processors. Samsung says that it has plans to increase production of this new 20 nanometer class mobile RAM later this year.

iPad Mini Said To Have Led iPad Shipments In Previous Quarter

iPad Mini Said To Have Led iPad Shipments In Previous Quarter

Last year Apple finally released the iPad mini. This tablet was rumored for quite some time and it was believed that Apple was releasing it just so it could establish a footing in the mid-range tablet market. That particular niche of the global tablet market is largely dominated by Android tablets manufactured by a number of companies, including Amazon and Google/Asus. According to a new report from Digitimes, their unnamed sources claim that 64% of all iPad shipments in the previous quarter were courtesy of iPad mini.

Apple is also rumored to be working on two new models of iPad mini, which will be released this year. Recently we heard rumors about a cheaper iPad mini, which wouldn’t bring a new display technology, but would come with a relatively low price tag of $200. The Retina display iPad mini is expected to be released this fall and will probably retain the current price point of this tablet. If the iPad mini indeed led iPad shipments last quarter, perhaps it could be due to the fact that Apple has traditionally released new iPads in March, and prospective customers might have held off their purchases in anticipation of a new model. What do you think?

Summer Camp For Adults Wants You To Ditch Your Technology For The Weekend

Summer Camp For Adults Wants You To Ditch Your Technology For The Weekend

Right this minute, you’re most likely reading this article on a device that is connected to the Internet which is also most likely performing a number of other tasks such as checking your emails, receiving instant messages and maybe some other background tasks. But what if you needed a break from all of the technology that surrounds you and get back to the basics one weekend at a time? That’s exactly what Camp Grounded is offering.

Camp Grounded is a new summer camp that is aiming to help adults break away from technology in order to have them experience what it’s like to be a kid again. The summer camp for adults is near Anderson Valley, California and will take place some time next month for four days. The camp will feature a 1970s-style Boy Scouts camp atmosphere and will allow up to 232 campers to partake in the “fun” while they stick to a number of strict rules such as no use of technology, no cell phones and no talking about work. We’re not sure what exactly the camp organizers will do if they catch you breaking any of its rules, but if we had to guess, we’d say the punishment probably has to do with putting a bar of soap in your mouth or some of the other terrible punishments kids experienced in the 70s.

Uncover Takes MacBook Customization To The Next Level With Laser Cut Art

Uncover Takes MacBook Customization To The Next Level With Laser Cut ArtWe’ve all come across decals that one can stick on their MacBook laptops, with some being pretty creative and using the glow from the Apple logo to represent Iron Man’s Arc reactor, or a decal of Snow White taking a bite out of the Apple logo and so on. While those are pretty cool and clever, if you’re looking to take the customization of your MacBook laptop to the next level, the folks at Uncover are offering custom MacBook lids which have been laser cut to take advantage of the fact that there is an entire light panel underneath the lid of your MacBook laptop to come up with some pretty unique and great designs.

One of the examples can be seen above, but if you’d like to see more designs you can head on over to Uncover’s website for the rest. For those interested, you will have to send your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro to the company in order for the laser cutting to take place, and as you might expect, this process/service will not come cheap as Uncover has stated on their FAQ page that prices start from €299 which is around $394 for a custom job. Ouch!

Lenovo ThinkPad S431 Is Powered By Windows 8

Lenovo ThinkPad S431 Is Powered By Windows 8Lenovo has just announced their latest addition to their notebook stable, the Lenovo ThinkPad S431 which runs on Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system. The Lenovo ThinkPad S431 will be equipped with a multi-finger touchscreen display that will be able to open up to 180-degrees, where it will be accompanied by the likes of a backlit keyboard alongside optimized shortcuts, and of course, something that is extremely essential – a large and responsive touchpad, where all of these were part of the design considerations to make it work as well as possible with Windows 8 as the operating system of choice.

The ThinkPad S431 would sport a 14-inch display that has been fitted into a 13-inch frame. Sounds illogical? Well, that is because it boasts of beveled edges which were specially designed to make the entire shebang look thinner than it actually is. Lenovo claims that the progressive design cues used will assist small businesses to impress their customers, without compromising on power or productivity. Other hardware specifications include 8GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and the ability to connect to the ThinkPad OneLink Dock using a single cable. Expect the Lenovo ThinkPad S431 to ship from June 2013 onwards for $699 a pop.

HP ProBooks Picked Up By Maine School

HP ProBooks Picked Up By Maine SchoolWe have seen our fair share of HP Probooks in the past, and this time around, the HP Probook has come under the spotlight yet again, with computer manufacturer HP all set to deliver personal computers as well as computers for Maine’s Learning Technology Initiative. This 4-year contract by the Maine Department of Education intends to see both students as well as teachers have a technology solution so that they can prepare themselves to be the next generation’s workforce. The HP ProBook 4440 would be the device in question here, where it runs on Microsoft Windows and will be the primary technology and learning solution for the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MTLI).

Having said that, ushering in HP also signals the end of Maine’s long-standing exclusive contract with Apple, which kicked off 11 years ago. The MLTI was kicked off thanks to a vision of former Governor Angus King, in an effort to prepare Maine’s students for a rapidly changing world. Having said that, while it is not unusual for corporations to offer discounts in order to pick up a plum contract like this, do you think that the proliferation of HP’s brand to current kids might eventually be translated to permanent customers? After all, humans tend to remain in the comfort zone as we are comfortable with what we know and are familiar with. Food for thought.
