Asus And Acer Reportedly Launching New Chromebooks This Year
Google certainly has its sights set on the notebook market. It has targeted the high-end niche with its latest notebook, the Chromebook Pixel. The company will also be releasing cheap, Intel Atom and Android OS powered notebooks that are expected to carry price tags as low as $200. In Google’s bid to dominate the notebook market, its partners are also playing a major role. According to supply chain sources, Asus and Acer both are planning new Chromebooks that will be released later this year.

Details about Asus Chromebook are vague right now, it is expected to make its debut in either the third or fourth quarter of 2013. As far as Acer’s Chromebook is concerned, it is said to have a 11.6 inch screen and expected to go on sale in July. No further details about these Chromebooks are available as yet, but they are supposedly going to be mid-range devices with price tags substantially less than the Chromebook Pixel. Even Lenovo and HP are rumored to be pondering over the idea of entering the Chromebook market, with so much support from its partners, Google can really focus on making the software side of things amazing so as to establish a respectable footing in the notebook market.

First Website Ever Restored For 20th Open Web Anniversary

First Website Ever Restored For 20th Open Web AnniversaryToday is a very special day for some of us, where it could be a wedding anniversary, the day the love of your life proposed to you, or it could even be a bitter experience where a loved one passed away. Of course, on the tech front, in April 30 two decades ago, CERN opened up the World Wide Web to the masses on a royalty-free basis. In order to commemorate this 20th anniversary of a milestone in the life of the Internet, CERN has taken the step to restore the very first website.

CERN claims that this particular move will help “preserve the digital assets that are associated with the birth of the Web”, and as if to push forward their main point, CERN intends to have that particular Web address, info.cern.ch, to be “a destination that reflects the story of the beginnings of the web for the benefit of future generations.” Oh and by the way, CERN stands for the European Organization for Nuclear Research, which is actually an international organization which operates the world’s largest particle physics laboratory.

Rural Libraries In China Abused And Turned Into Internet Cafes

Rural Libraries In China Abused And Turned Into Internet CafesBefore the internet, students and academics had to visit the library to research information. In order to keep up with the times, libraries have since introduced computers and made them internet ready, allowing those without internet at home to drop by and search for information. However it seems that according to several reports, rural libraries in China have slowly become home to internet gamers who have taken advantage of the library’s internet and computers to play video games. It seems that this is a problem that has extended to public computers in universities in China as well.

Considering that internet cafes is a pretty big thing in China, especially with reports of how some gamers have spent hours playing games non-stop, with some even “living” there, we can’t say we’re too surprised. Interestingly when reporters of Jinshi News paid a visit to the Nanchong Institute of Technology in Sichuan, they found that universities have even started to charge students about 0.12 cents an hour to use the computers and to play video games! Yikes!

Original Apple I Computer Up For Auction In Germany This May 25

Original Apple I Computer Up For Auction In Germany This May 25We have talked about at least three Apple I auctions in the past, and here we are with yet another one from German auction house Team Breker, who managed to perform quite a feat in rounding up a rather interesting array of significant “firsts” where the computing world is concerned. Their upcoming auction in Koln, Germany, is set to happen on May 25, and you might be thrilled to hear that another one of the six known original Apple I computers that are still in working condition too, will be part of the auction.

Of course, that is not the oldest item on auction, as one from a few centuries back would be a mechanical calculator that is the creation of philosopher and physicist Blaise Pascal, which hails all the way from the year 1652. Other than that, the first Intel microprocessor known as the 4004 from 1971 will also be up for grabs if you are interested, in addition to a 1975 Altair 8800. Would the last working Apple I computer manage to fetch more than $640,000 this time around?

Acer Aspire V5-122 Powered By AMD’s Temash Processor

Acer Aspire V5 122 Powered By AMD’s Temash ProcessorAcer has just announced a spanking new notebook for the masses, where it comes with a rather tiny display, although it will not break the bank – which is a good thing, of course. The notebook’s name? It is known as the Acer Aspire V5-122, where it will run on the Windows 8 operating system alongside a processor from Intel’s once-mighty but now seemingly vanquished rival, AMD. The AMD Temash processor should be able to get the job done for most of your basic and daily tasks, where it features an 11.6” display at 1366 x 768 resolution, with a starting price point of a mere $450, clearly making this one of the most affordable touchscreen notebooks in the market at the moment if you do not need an “Intel Inside” sticker, of course.

Other hardware specifications in the Acer Aspire V5-122 include a Radeon HD 8280 graphics chipset, 2GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, VGA, HDMI, USB 3.0, and gigabit Ethernet. The 3-cell battery underneath the hood would bring the entire notebook’s weight to approximately 3.3 pounds, leaving us rather curious as to whether there are any backers for this puppy or not.

Make Skype Calls Straight From Your Outlook.com Inbox

Make Skype Calls Straight From Your Outlook.com InboxMicrosoft, the company that owns Skype after forking out a rather hefty sum for it (and subsequently bid adieu to their Windows Live Messenger program), has made sure that there is an even greater level of integration between their own software range, and the latest is this – Outlook.com, which was launched last summer, will now allow you to make Skype calls directly from your inbox.

Yes sir, from today onwards, Microsoft began to introduce a preview version of Skype for Outlook.com, where both communication experiences are now brought together in a single place. This Skype for Outlook.com preview will start to roll out in the United Kingdom, and will eventually make its way to the United States and Germany in the weeks ahead. In the coming months, however, you will find audio and video calls powered by Skype being opened up to every single Outlook.com inbox. This paves the way for easier and more convenient communication to connect to the people you care about most. This is the way forward – less typing, and more talking, and within its first six months after launch, Outlook.com managed to attract some 60 million new users, which lands it in the category of the “fastest-growing email service” in history.
