There is no point resting on your laurels unless you want your rivals to step all over your head, right? This is the very reason as to why Apple is working hard to deliver the next version of OS X, which would be version 10.9. 9to5Mac claims that Mac OS X 10.9 will come with an improved multi-monitor experience, something that has been a long time in coming, where users are able to run fullscreen apps on a single monitor, while access other desktop spaces as well as fullscreen apps.
Power users would definitely appreciate such a feature, and it seems that majority of the other additions that are in the pipeline for Mac OS X 10.9 would be the kind that you would not see or notice at first glance, since these tend to be under-the-hood tweaks, so forget about an unforgettable number of new features and user interface changes. Whispers abound that party tricks from iOS such as app switching and pausing might be thrown into the mix to help extend the machine’s battery life, which is always a good thing. All in all, are you looking forward to the next version of Mac OS X 10.9?

Apple announced its upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference will start on June 10 and will mainly focus on iOS 7 and improvements to OS X. Even though Apple CEO Tim Cook said the earliest we should expect new Apple devices is September, that hasn’t stopped one analyst from predicting the company is expected to announce a refreshed MacBook Air and MacBook Pro sometime during the conference.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says he believes new Apple notebooks will be unveiled on June 10 and are expected to sport Intel’s new Haswell processors with production of the new MacBook Pro expected to take place next month. Kuo also believes Apple will continue to manufacture the MacBook Pro as he says “the 13″ MacBook Pro remains the most popular product in the MacBook Line.” (more…)

Dell Vostro 5460 Touted To Be Thinnest And Lightest 14-Inch Notebook To Date
Posted in: Today's ChiliDell has announced that their most recent addition to the world of ultra-portable notebooks would come in the form of the 14” Dell Vostro 5460. What makes the Dell Vostro 5460 different from the rest would be it carrying the torch of being the thinnest and lightest 14-inch Vostro notebook to date. In fact, it measures a mere 18.3mm while tipping the scales at just 1.54kg, making it deliver far more juice in a supremely portable form factor. Some of the hardware specifications of this notebook include an expansive 14-inch high definition widescreen LED (HD WLED) TrueLife display at 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, integrated stereo speakers and a dedicated subwoofer that is powered by HD audio with Waves MaxxAudio 4.0, an integrated 720HD 1-megapixel camera with microphones, and of course, a full-sized Chiclet keyboard that makes typing out those long reports a cinch.
You will find all of these hardware specifications come encased within a sleek brushed-aluminum chassis in graphite silver or fire red, where a 3-cell integrated Lithium Ion battery would deliver up to 5 hours of battery life. Connectivity options include 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a RJ-45 Ethernet port, where those are accompanied by a trio of USB 3.0 ports, an SD memory card reader and a HDMI port. There will be a 500GB hard drive that is complemented by a 32GB SSD, and you can pick up the Vostro 5460 in two flavors – both running on Windows 8, with one being the vanilla version while the other would carry the Ultrabook moniker.

Forget about the great train robbery, in this day and age, personal information stored online might prove to be far more valuable to thieving minds and hearts than just cold, hard cash, although I think that cash alone would still be the prime motivator for many a thief. Apparently, online deals service LivingSocial mentioned at the end of last week that their website was compromised, and the personal data of over 50 million customers could very well have been compromised.
According to LivingSocial, if you have registered with them, your name, email addresses, date of birth and encrypted password could have been compromised in the hacking incident. LivingSocial went on to say that their database which holds your credit card information was not accessed or affected, but we can only go so far and take their word for it. LivingSocial is currently working alongside law enforcement officials to investigate the attack, and have done their bit to contact customers in just about all of the countries where it has operations in. Hopefully other group buying sites like Microsoft’s recently introduced Bing Offers would not be affected.

Intel has confirmed that it will be providing chips to Google, as the internet search giant will soon be introducing Android based notebooks in the market. This isn’t Google’s first foray in the notebook market. The company has released a number of Chromebooks in the past but they haven’t gained much traction. The latest offering, Chromebook Pixel, hasn’t been able to make waves as well despite its impressive build quality and amazing display. The company hopes that its Android based notebooks won’t suffer from a similar fate.
The Android notebooks will have touchscreen displays and are going to be powered by Intel Atom processors. Google is aiming for a new price point, it is expected to price these touchscreen notebooks at approximately $200. It remains to be seen how much of an effect this price point will have on sales of 7″ tablets that are similarly priced. An Intel executive believes that it is unlikely for Windows 8 based notebooks to be in this price range, but it all depends on how Microsoft prices Windows 8. For Android notebooks, a $200 price is possible because the software itself is free for OEMs. No specifications or release time frame of these notebooks has been given.

At CeBIT last month, we managed to get a hands on of the Intel Haswell prototype, and here we are with additional information concerning this computing device. This Haswell-powered North Cape prototype from Intel is able to pull one rabbit from its seemingly bottomless proverbial hat, that is, to have its 13” 1080p display adjust itself to a 11.6” display whenever it is detached from the keyboard base, as you use it like a tablet device.
Fret not, this prototype is not that advanced where it is capable of changing the molecular structure within to shrink to the desired 11.6” size, but rather, the display will introduce letterboxes by adding a virtual bezel to expand the current one. Whatever touch input in this expanded area would be disabled too, to keep in line with the overall feel of the device. While this would result in less viewing and touching real estate, it ought not be too much of a bother with Windows 8 apps that have been specially optimized for situations such as this. Would you be interested in this Haswell prototype when it finally rolls out officially to the masses?
