Toshiba KIRAbook Images Out

Toshiba KIRAbook Images OutJapanese firm Toshiba has dived headlong into the luxury and high-end notebook market with their latest release, known as the KIRAbook, which we talked about yesterday, but have managed to snag a bagful of photos today, which you can check out its photo gallery right after the jump. KIRA is part of Toshiba’s exercise in introducing a new premium brand for consumers, where the KIRAbook would be an all-new Ultrabook that will offer the first and vaunted ultra-high resolution PixelPure display, helping achieve a lightweight yet compact design that was precision engineered with AZ91 pressed magnesium alloy.

AllWinner A20 SoC Is World’s First Dual-Core A7 Chip

AllWinner A20 SoC Is World’s First Dual Core A7 ChipWe have seen a company like AllWinner come out with a mini PC as well as Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich-powered device in the past, but this time around, it will not be something that you plug into your TV, as the AllWinner A20 SoC has been considered to be the first dual-core A7 chip released in the world. Just in case you were wondering, AllWinner has quite a presence in the Android-powered market in China, where they have pinned hopes on the A20 to continue pushing the affordability boundaries while touting to offer up to five times the energy efficiency as well as 50% of a power boost, in comparison to Cortex A8 chips.

To keep the dual-core A7 chip company, we have a dual-core Mali 400MP2 graphical unit chugging along, enabling the unit to play back 1080p video at 30 frames per second, in addition to capturing 720p videos at 60 frames per second. It will play nice with Android 4.1 and 4.2 Jelly Bean versions of the Android operating system, and has integrated an HDMI transmitter, LVDS interface, and TV decoder. When will we see devices that carry the A20 SoC? In due time, methinks.

Flies Are Lord Of The Tweets

Flies Are Lord Of The TweetsThey say that life imitates art, but sometimes, do you think that the saying also applies the other way around? Well, David Bowen has come up with his fair share of interesting installations in the past, where the @flycolony is one of them. The thing is, after being in operation for quite some time already (we first covered the story on @flycolony back in October last year), just how has it fared to date?

This particular project that is part science as well as part art is strictly based on insect flight patterns and other indicators, and the entire colony of flies will be your ordinary pests at the dining table, ready to pounce on any available goodies that are left open to them. The thing is, you are never going to get a dictionary out of them, and the chances of these flies typing out one of the Bard’s sonnets is as high as a room of monkeys with a bunch of typewriters. You basically get gibberish like “MMFCVVVCCCDW5GBGGVVCLK” and “5QQQ2Q22323232323434”, which ain’t too smart to begin with.

Automatic Muting On Google Plus Hangouts

Automatic Muting On Google Plus HangoutsWe have seen some interesting additions made to Google+ Hangouts in the past, including allowing users to watch YouTube videos together and a new sidebar feature with colorful notifications, so are there new ways to introduce an improvement to Google+ Hangouts? Sure there are, as the human mind is always an enterprising one. For those of us who thought that capturing the full attention of someone in a Google+ Hangout would mean not hearing the sound of their typing as they work on something else, but Google has something new in store by allowing you to mute your microphone as long as you type, so that the other person won’t be able to tell just what you are doing at the moment.

There is one particular drawback to this though – Google has decided to add this feature to chats that have at least four participants within, so it would be a good idea to rope in more friends to your Google+ Hangouts. There is nothing quite like automatic muting of your microphone when you type, no? What do you think of this move by Google?

Android 4.1.1 Update For Sony Xperia Tablet S Announced

Android 4.1.1 Update For Sony Xperia Tablet S Announced

The Sony Xperia Tablet S initially showed much promise. It was supposedly going to launch Sony as a major player in the global tablet market. Unfortunately the tablet slowly but surely faded into obscurity. However if you have one of these lying around you’d be excited to know that the company has officially announced Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for Xperia Tablet S.

The update will be online its production servers by tomorrow morning between 9 and 10am PST. Xperia Tab S user’s will receive a notification in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, telling them that they can download the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update over-the-air. The release is for Latin America, Canada and the United States region. In locations other than these the latest update will be rolled out in phases. The company hasn’t released a changelog as yet, it has only said that the entire list of changes will be available tomorrow on their eSupport page. This Android update file will definitely be over 50MB, so it is advised that you download it over Wi-Fi so as to not unnecessarily burden your mobile data plan.

Toshiba KiraBook Hands On: Is an Amazing Screen Enough to Make a Computer Great?

Toshiba is taking aim at the MacBook Air. We know this not because its new KiraBook ultraportable, with its 13-inch 2560×1440 display, resembles an MBA—it doesn’t, really—but because, over and over, Toshiba referenced ways it’s better than or on par with a MacBook Air, as reps explained how the company’s focus with the Kira revolves around design. Microsoft Accounts Receive Two-Step Verification To Help Keep Secure

Microsoft Accounts Receive Two Step Verification To Help Keep SecureThe online world has become a little less safe considering how many companies have their services hacked, which results in the user having to change a perfectly good password in fear their account will be accessed by an unauthorized user. Microsoft is taking steps to keep your security when using their services the highest priority, which is why they’re rolling out a new two-step verification process for all of its accounts.

The new verification process will start rolling out an upgrade to Microsoft accounts over the next few days that will allow its users to enable an optional two-step authentication service to help improve the security of their account. The result will help better protect a person’s Microsoft account through the use of a verification process. Microsoft account owners will also be able to use app passwords for some of its services, such as the Xbox 360, for those services, which at the moment, don’t support two-step authentication. Microsoft reports that 24% of all PCs are unprotected

Many of you are probably sporting some kind of anti-malware software on your computer, whether it’d Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky, etc. However, it turns out that almost a quarter of all PCs in the world are unprotected, leaving them wide open for all kinds of havoc that no one really wants lurking around.

malware

According to Microsoft’s latest Security Intelligence Report, 24% of all PCs are absent of any kind of anti-malware software. Microsoft says that unprotected computers are 5.5 times more likely to catch a virus than computers that have anti-malware software installed. However, it seems some users are willing to take the risk.

According to the report, the country who has the most unprotected computers roaming around is Egypt, with a whopping 40% of unprotected PCs laying around, with India coming in second at 30%, and Russia with 29%. The US comes in at 26%, with the UK at 21%, which ties for the lowest percentage along with Brazil and Australia.

However, Microsoft notes that the reason for unprotected PCs may not just be about laziness on the users’ part, but they simply may not be well-informed on the importance of having anti-virus software on their computer. There’s also other contributing factors, like free trials expiring without notice, or a virus itself disabling your anti-virus software.
