Microsoft Office 2010 SP2 Public Beta Launched

Microsoft Office 2010 SP2 Public Beta LaunchedMicrosoft has halted sales of Office 2010 not too long after Office 2013 rolled out earlier this year in January, but this does not mean that the software giant has forgotten about Office 2010, but has continued to offer support for their previous generation of productivity software suite with its fair share of patches. Well, the latest on the street is, Microsoft has just launched the public beta for Office 2010 Service Pack 2 that will be accompanied by the public beta for SharePoint 2010 Service Pack 2.

You will need a Microsoft Account signup to be able to check out the download site, where there will be both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the public beta for the masses to download, although there has been nothing specific on what this newly released beta will include. We do know that Microsoft did mention that this beta “includes previously unreleased fixes that were made specifically for this service pack. In addition to general product fixes, these fixes include improvements in stability, performance, and security as well as compatibility with Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Internet Explorer 10. The service pack beta also includes all the public updates and cumulative updates (hotfixes) that have been released since Service Pack 1. A full list of fixes will be available at the time of final release.”

Alienware X51 Gets Ubuntu OS As An Option

Alienware X51 Gets Ubuntu OS As An OptionLinux and computer gaming are not exactly bosom buddies, but this has not stopped Dell’s Alienware arm from delivering the Alienware X51 gaming desktop with the option of having Ubuntu running on it as the operating system of choice. This particular option is made available to those living in the US, where users are able to select either Windows or Ubuntu when making their purchase. So far, initial impressions of Ubuntu as the operating system of choice does make some sense, where this unique interface offers a clean and stylish approach which is a snap to learn.

First time Ubuntu users would find it a cinch to figure things out, but if you are undecided at the moment, a couple of key issues could help nudge you in the right direction. The Ubuntu-powered Alienware X51 will feature supported drivers from NVIDIA, letting you game right out of the box, but do make sure you do your bit in looking for updates, and installing Steam is also a snap on this machine, although many games have yet to be supported. You will be able to enjoy classics like Team Fortress 2 and Serious Sam though.

HP Project Moonshot Launched, Runs On Intel Atom Processor

HP Project Moonshot Launched, Runs On Intel Atom ProcessorHP has just launched what they call the Project Moonshot, which will also be powered by Intel’s Atom processor, as HP takes a step forward to be a server leader when it comes to hyperscale servers, targeted workloads, power savings and better density. The HP Moonshot server line will arrive with additional chipsets down the road, and the computer manufacturing giant will work on Moonshot hyper scale software defined servers to cater for custom workloads as well as an ecosystem.

HP is hoping to roll out new Moonshot systems at three times the product cycle where traditional servers are concerned, as it remains a symbol of HP when it comes to innovation, while they remain a server leader and have every intention of keeping up with cloud customers, as this particular market group tend to have a penchant for building their own gear lately. A little bit more on the HP Moonshot servers – they are able to support 1,800 servers a rack, where individual chassis will share components for cooling, power supply and management software, while running on the Intel Atom S1200 processor.

Windows XP Extended Support Ends In 2014

Windows XP Extended Support Ends In 2014Wow, Windows XP is certainly one of the longer lived operating system from Microsoft, considering the kind of support that the software giant still provides after all these years. In fact, it is said that the Windows XP extended support will finally call it a day at the end of next year, which is a surefire signal that Microsoft has every intention of you performing an upgrade.

NetMarketShare claims that nearly 40% of all desktop computers still run on Windows XP, which goes to say a whole lot considering how Windows XP was released a dozen years ago. In fact, during that time, Microsoft did roll out a trio of major operating system updates since then, with mainstream support for Windows XP ending in 2009. However, by April next year, Microsoft will call it a day for extended support for Windows XP. You know what they say, all good things must always come to an end, and I suppose it is time to ensure that Windows XP gets a decent send off. After all, Windows 7 and of course, Windows 8 ain’t half bad themselves!

Pay Women To Play Video Games With You In China

Pay Women To Play Video Games With You In China

We know how difficult it can be in order to find a woman who shares the same interests as you do, especially when it comes to your hardcore gaming habits that don’t involve dancing around in your underwear. That’s why you need to move to China where they offer a service to have women play games with you in a number of ways.

The gaming companion service in China comes in two different services. The first is a promotional service which has a game company offering the chance to play with a pretty lady. The second is a pay service where gamers can pay for a female to play online games with them. As you would expect, the service seems to be geared towards male gamers with its concept first coming about when a high-end World of Warcraft club offered online companion services.

Old iMac G3s Find New Life As Ceiling Lamps

Old iMac G3s Find New Life As Ceiling LampsThe old iMac G3’s are a stark contrast to the design of the iMacs today. While the iMacs today feature a more professional and elegant design of glass and metal, the iMac G3s were the complete opposite with translucent plastic bodies and came in a variety of bright and eye-catching colors. We can imagine there aren’t too many iMac G3s in use these days, so what can one do with old and possibly broken iMac G3s? Turn them into ceiling lamps, of course! The photo above was shot by Jenny Serwylo, and as it turns out, those iMac G3s are actually hanging in the office she works at, G Adventures in Toronto, Ontario. We can only assume that these G3s have been hollowed out otherwise they might be in danger of falling due to their weight! We can’t speak as to how well these iMac G3 lamps light up the room, or if they’re more for decoration, but we have to admit that it is pretty clever.

Intel Starts Shipping Haswell Chips to PC Manufacturers

Intel Starts Shipping Haswell Chips to PC Manufacturers

According to a new report Intel has started shipping its latest Haswell chip to PC manufacturers. Though it has not officially been confirmed yet by Intel, the chips have reportedly started reaching major manufacturers and products based on it are expected to launch this quarter. It is expected that Intel will make an announcement regarding Haswell chips at the IDF conference, due to take place next week in Beijing. Haswell, Intel’s most power efficient mainstream processor, was touted by CEO Paul Otellini as the single largest generation-to-generation battery life improvement in Intel history.

A range of ultrabooks and tablet/laptop hybrids will be powered by the Haswell processor. According to the latest media note from Intel, the 4th generation Haswell core is on track for a mid-year launch. The Haswell processors retain a 22nm process similar to that of Ivy Bridge processors, though there’a new microarchitechture for improved performance. There will reportedly be 14 new CPUs across the Core i5 and Core i7 brands which will use an entirely new CPU socket called LGA 1150 on Lynx Point chipset motherboards, split in to six standard power SKUs and eight low power SKUs.
