You know something? The phrase “I don’t give a rat’s ass” might not be too accurate, considering how the rear end of a rat has a tail hanging from it, but in the near future, we might soon see a variant of that particular phrase appear. In fact, Harvard researchers have recently published in PLOS ONE that they were running experiments to study and evaluate the effectiveness of transcranial focused ultrasound being used to trigger specific actions in an animal.
In order to achieve their goal, they placed an anesthetized rat in the lab, where an ultrasound device was carefully positioned over its scalp, with a human subject wearing an EEG cap which was hooked up to said ultrasound. It takes some time to fine tune the situation, but once successful, it functioned as a brain-to-brain interface, allowing the human being to actually move the rat’s tail using telepathy. Of course, the practical applications of this particular research remain rather limited for obvious reasons as this point in time, but could we be looking at a highly advanced model in the future, where we telepathically control a rat to infiltrate a building, acting as a “spy” for us?

It was not too long ago – just a couple of days ago, in fact, when we brought you word on Firefox 20 alongside its slew of improvements made to those who like the private browsing feature. Well, here we are with additional detail on Firefox Beta, where there have been changes made to the Do Not Track options, so read on if you are particular interested to know what are the amendments that have been thrown into the mix.
Basically, the latest Firefox Beta for Windows, Mac and Linux is ready for download and testing, and Do Not Track will now sport a trio of different options, namely “Do Track,” “Do Not Track” and “no preference”, where these are made available to the end user in order to better represent the user’s choice to opt-in or opt-out of online tracking. For those who want to gain access to the Do Not Track options, just indicate your preference by clicking on “preferences” followed by “privacy.”
You are also able to restore thumbnails on new tab page, which is a rather nifty feature as there are times when one can accidentally close thumbnails. Should that happen, there is the handy “undo” option that will restore said thumbnail.

The founders of Microsoft, Paul Allen and Bill Gates, actually took the time and trouble to pose with state of the art computers in June 25, 1981, the day when Microsoft was incorporated as a business in Washington. Gates, as the president and chairman of the board, alongside Allen became executive vice president, realized that they needed to have a decent photo taken of the both of them, and that particular shot became a classic over the years, with Gates wearing a sweater while Allen was decked out in a suit and a tie.
Fast forward more than a couple of decades down the road, and here we are with a recreated photo of that classic shot, where Allen with his computer museum in Seattle provided the backdrop for this recreated photo. Allen said, “It is possible that no other technology on earth has so continually renewed itself as computer technology. Advances in this field arrive in such swift succession that even the software and hardware of a few seasons ago are considered obsolete.” It would also have been cool if they maintained the same pose, except with the latest developments in today’s computing world for added effect.

Remember the Daft Punk song, “Harder Better Faster Stronger”? Basically, the end user would be able to experience faster page loads, which are approximately 5% speedier on average, courtesy of changes made to Chrome’s resource scheduler. Basically, Chrome 27 Beta and future iterations will have a more aggressive scheduler when it comes to using an idle connection, where it will demote the priority of preloaded resources as part of an effort not to interfere with critical assets. Some of us might tweet about mundane stuff in life, but it seems that there is a whole lot more to Twitter than meets the eye, especially after you read about this story of a Belfast woman who managed to track down her missing mum after 11 hours. Diane, as seen on Twitter with one of her four legged besties, was tweeted by her daughter, Joanne, who claimed that Twitter managed to help her locate her mother, which is no mean task considering how Diane suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease, which has been deemed by some to be the Long Goodbye.
Diane went out for a walk, but could not remember how to get back, and so she felt helpless since she failed to be in a place where there is a decent phone signal. With no one else to turn to except for the Twitter brigade, she posted an appeal on Twitter as well as Facebook, while asking her followers to retweet and share the picture message. Diane’s tweet read, “This is my mum & she’s gone #missing. Help try & bring her home safe #missing #belfast #plsRT #alzheimers”. Now that’s the power of social networking for you.

Twitter recently introduced some changes to their micro blogging site, in the form of Twitter Cards, and here we are with another update on what else Twitter has been up to. Apparently, Bloomberg has just announced that they will be integrating Twitter feeds into its terminals. These are no ordinary terminals, as they deliver real-time, financial data to the desks of Wall Street traders. This announcement was in line with the SEC’s decision which was made earlier this week, touting that social media has finally made the jump to being a valid platform for corporate disclosures, although it goes without saying that both companies should have begun integration work a whole lot earlier before the official announcement.
This move would see Twitter grow up by another notch, where it underlines the growing importance of Twitter to function as a distribution platform when it comes to breaking, market-moving news. Jean-Paul Zammitt, head of sales and product development for Bloomberg Professional, explained in a statement, “When important news is shared on Twitter, traders and investors need to be able to access it, and validate its importance in order to incorporate that information into their decision-making process.” Tweetdeck definitely looks as though they are going to “suffer” from this latest Bloomberg integration.
