Raspberry Pi Runs Classic DOS Games Thanks To Emulator

Raspberry Pi Runs Classic DOS Games Thanks To EmulatorThere is nothing quite like the feeling of paying a visit to the past, and sometimes, old is gold where certain computer games are concerned. I am quite sure that some of us do think back of those PC games which we spent hours on during our formative years as a teenager, where the DOS platform proved to be rather tricky when it comes to configuring your audio setup, with IRQs, XMS and EMS memory to set and all. Who would have thought that fast forward by a couple of decades, and something as small as the Raspberry Pi is powerful enough to run a DOS emulator, which in turn will let you enjoy those old school DOS games?

Homebrew coder Pate already has experience with DOS emulators, coming up with one for the Nintendo DS in the past, and has just completed another DOS emulator for the Raspberry Pi which is based on the DS version known as rpix86. You will obviously require a Raspberry Pi in the first place, as well as some know how before jumping through the rabbit hole and going back in time with your favorite DOS games.

Intel HD 4000 Graphics Driver Update Said To Offer 10% Performance Increase

Intel HD 4000 Graphics Driver Update Said To Offer 10% Performance IncreaseModern day hardware has one advantage over the hardware of yore – a simple firmware update (all right, so coming up with a tweaked firmware is not that simple in essence, but you know what I am talking about here, don’t you?) is all that is required to offer a boost in overall performance, compared to having to purchase a totally new piece of hardware in the past. Well, Intel’s integrated HD 4000 GPU has been used in numerous devices in the past, so it is nice to hear that the silicone giant has announced a totally new graphics driver for the existing chipset, targeting machines that run on Ivy Bridge processors.

According to Intel, this new firmware update ought to see improvement in graphics performance by up to 10%, in addition to lowering the overall power consumption, which is always a good thing whenever you deal with mobile devices. The upcoming Intel HD 4000 graphics driver will be version 15.3.1, and it is tipped for an early April release, which frankly, is not too far off away.

Windows Blue Leak Point To WebGL Support In IE11

Windows Blue Leak Point To WebGL Support In IE11Remember last weekend, when the world was treated to a leak of an early Windows Blue build? Well, that certainly helped the masses get a better idea on what kind of direction does Microsoft want to take their desktop operating system too, and it certainly also lays down the other plans that the software giant has lined up for their default browser, Internet Explorer 11 . Among those features include tab syncing and a downloads list feature for the Modern version among others.

Not only that, it does seem as though there will be WebGL support in IE11 as well, where web developer Francois Remy wrote in his blog, “I didn’t get webgl working, even by trying using iesl, hlsl and other combinations. So, it seems like WebGL interfaces are defined but not functional at this time.” Well, it seems that the Microsoft IE team did insert some programming that will support WebGL, although full compatibility has yet to be implemented. Do you think that IE11 will be able to help Microsoft win back some of their browser market share?

Chinese Gamer Spends Six Years At Internet Cafe

Chinese Gamer Spends Six Years At Internet Cafe

Not Meng

We’ve published a number of stories of gamers around the world who had their lives cut too short after spending way too many hours at local Internet cafes. But you rarely hear similar stories of gamers practically living at an Internet cafe for several years, and that’s exactly what we have in the following story.

Li Meng has reportedly more or less been living at an Internet cafe near Changchun for the past six years as he only leaves his spot to eat and shower. Otherwise, he can be found at the cafe to play games in the evenings until he gets sleepy, and then proceeds to fall asleep during the daylight hours. We imagine the seats at the cafe must be extremely comfortable to be able to sleep in. (more…)

Wii U Miiverse Coming To Smartphones, PC In A Few Weeks

When Miiverse was originally considered by Nintendo, the company knew it wanted to expand the service beyond just the Wii U onto mobile devices and PC. We know Nintendo plans to roll out their update making this theory a reality this spring, and during a Miiverse panel at this week’s Game Developer’s Conference, Nintendo finally revealed some details on when we could expect it.

Nintendo’s Miiverse producer Kiyoshi Mizuki announced its app will be made available in just a few weeks to be released in either April or May on both smartphones and PC. As for the Nintendo 3DS, a version of Miiverse for Nintendo’s handheld platform is still in development, but as of now, there’s no word as to when it would be expected to be released. (more…)

Google Chrome Web Store Search Interface Updated

Google Chrome Web Store Search Interface UpdatedGoogle has just rolled out a spanking new updated search interface for its Chrome Web Store, and just what kind of changes does it bring? Well, the most obvious one would be the ability for users to be able to tabulate filter options right at the top of the page, and among the filter choices, they include All, Apps, Extensions and Themes. If you were to check out the All section, you can also opt to click on section headings in order to make a quick jump to a single category search.

These improvements are definitely more than welcome, as it shows how Google has quietly and yet gradually introduced improvements to the search function on its Chrome store. Last July, they actually threw in social recommendations from Google+, which enabled users to check out just which apps members of their circles have already +1′d. It is said that there is also another major revamp coming our way, which allegedly will feature multi-platform support for apps and extensions.

Gmail Makes New Compose Now Default

Gmail Makes New Compose Now DefaultGoogle has every intention of making life a whole lot easier for those of us who rely on the Internet to get things done, especially when it comes to communication. I can still remember how Gmail invites were extremely precious all those years ago, and now, just about everyone and their aunt have a Gmail account, or maybe several of those. Well, this can only mean one thing – Google is not going to sit down and leave Gmail just like that, but will work hard at improving the overall user experience. The latest update to Gmail would see the introduction of a new compose experience as the default, regardless of who you are.

For those who are already using the new compose experience (and loving it), chances are you would have realized that it has received a slew of upgrades in the past months, ranging from a new method to scurry files over using Google Drive to other often requested features such as pop-out replies. Not only that, there is also support for originally missing features including starring and labeling while you are composing a message, in addition to the Canned Responses lab. This new compose default should roll out to the entire world in a matter of the next few days, and you can check this page out if you need any help.

Intel PixelSync Contributes To computer Graphics History

Intel PixelSync Contributes To computer Graphics HistoryAt GDC 2013, Intel has revealed some details of its 4th Gen Core Processors, including details about their upcoming graphics processors features (all Intel Core processor comes with a graphics processor or integrated GPU inside). Not surprisingly, DirectX 11.1 is supported, but what was not expected was that Intel actually extended upon the DX11 specifications to include two new features: Instant Access and PixelSync. Instant Access provides a more straightforward, more convenient and faster way to access the GPU memory, PixelSync does provide a more fundamental improvement in how computer graphics work and performs, especially when it comes to handling transparency.
