Samsung Series 9 Premium Ultrabook Gets 1080p Display Update

Samsung Series 9 Premium Ultrabook Gets 1080p Display Update

We just published our review of the Samsung Series 9 (NP900) last month, and Samsung is already updating it to make it even more awesome than it already is. Samsung is announcing its flagship laptop will be receiving a 13.3-inch, 1920 x 1080 LED display which is combined with the company’s SuperBright technology to provide a 50 percent increase in its brightness compared to competing screens. Touchscreen has been left of the cutting room floor for the new Series 9 laptop, which could certainly be a deal breaker if that’s what you’re looking for in your laptops these days.

The new Series 9 still retains its astounding slim frame, even though it’s now equipped with a 1080p display as it’s a half-inch thick and weighs in at 2.56 pounds. Its internal specs also include an Intel Core i7 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD with Windows 8 as the operating system. Samsung says the new Series 9 will provide up to eight hours of battery life, which is a slight improvement over what we saw with the NP900′s 7-hour battery life. Retailing for $1,899.99, hopefully its 1080p-touchless display will entice you enough to spend that kind of cash.

Chromebook Samsung Series 3 Review

Chromebook Samsung series 3.

Just like set top boxes, which are dedicated devices for streaming video content, the Chromebook is a dedicated web browsing appliance. It is an inexpensive piece of hardware, running on a free Operating System, with free software and updates (OS, firmware and drivers), troubleshooting free, anti-virus and anti-malware proof and you cannot “mess it up”, even if you wanted to.

Now, assuming, somehow, it was “broken”, it could be restored to the factory settings with just one click, well, may be two. In case the device is misplaced, stolen or just died, there is no data loss, unless it was stored locally, no software re-installations, no reconfiguration. Put your hands on another Chromebook, login your gmail account and voila, everything should be where you left it off. Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? The truth is I am as eager as you are to find out! The following is my review: (more…)

Ubuntu Variant Will Be China’s State-Endorsed Operating System Of Choice

Ubuntu Variant Will Be Chinas State Endorsed Operating System Of ChoiceWhen it comes to technology, more often than not we hear about China censoring the internet and whatnot. In fact for those unfamiliar, popular services such as YouTube and Twitter have their own Chinese counterparts, such as Youku and Weibo. China has also launched their own mobile operating system in place of Android (although it is based off Android), and even has a Google of their own in the form of Baidu. Needless to say, China appears to be going out of their way to ensure that they are in control when it comes to technology and unsurprisingly, open-sourced operating system, Linux, has been revealed to be China’s operating system of choice. HP Envy X2 Review

HP Envy X2 Review

Microsoft created its Windows 8 OS with touchscreen in mind, with a number of traditional PC users most likely groaning at the thought of reaching out to their monitor in order to open up a program. Mobile computers like laptops, ultrabooks and tablets seem to be making the best use of the new OS since their screen is within an easily reachable distance.

HP introduced its Envy X2 last August which is an 11.6” touch-screen slate PC that easily brings the portability of a tablet with the productivity of a light laptop when it’s connected to its keyboard dock. When we originally put our hands all over it, we walked away extremely impressed, but we knew we had to get this thing into our review lab to put it through all of our tests to see just how good it is. Chrome And Android To Remain Separate, According To Google’s Eric Schmidt

Chrome And Android To Remain Separate, According To Googles Eric SchmidtWith both Chrome and Android being Google products, it was a logical assumption that Chrome and Android could somehow merge of be integrated with each other. After all since Chrome is an app that can be downloaded for Android and iOS, it almost makes sense that both products would see a merge in the future. However according to a discussion with reporters in India, Google’s Eric Schmidt stated that both Android and Chrome would remain separate products, but he did acknowledge that there could be an overlap of either. We guess with Google hoping that Chrome OS takes off, keeping the operating system separate of Android might help encourage users to adopt Chrome OS for their browsing needs, while using Android for their smartphone/tablet needs. That’s just speculation but what do you guys think? Would you have liked to see both products merge together? If Microsoft managed to create Windows 8 for both laptops, desktops and tablets, why not Google, right?

AMD Radeon HD 7790 Strengthens AMD’s Mid-Range Offering

AMD Radeon HD 7790 Strengthens AMDs Mid Range Offering

AMD just announced its new Radeon HD 7790 graphics processor (GPU) which will go in add-on cards immediately from close to ten partners right away. This new chip uses a new design which was created to improve the performance for the price, and for the power consumption, two key metrics when “absolute performance” (at any cost) is no longer the name of the game.

The Radeon 7790 uses the Graphics Core Next architecture that was unveiled to developers in late 2011, and currently used in high-end AMD cards, it improves performance by increasing the transistor density when compared to previous architectures. This allows for much faster geometry and tessellation engines, which are powering critical DirectX 11 features (it’s a DX11.1 chip by the way). (more…)
