One problem with the new iMacs was that there was no easy way to mount the all-in-one to the wall, since they didn’t support a standard VESA mount. A lot of users like to save desk space and stick their displays to the wall, but there was really no easy way to go about that with the new iMac, unless you could do a bit of clever hacking. However, Apple has released an option specifically for that niche and is now offering iMacs with a built-in VESA wall mount adapter.
The new iMacs with the built-in VESA adapter will cost $40 more than a regular iMac, and they don’t come with the stand, but you have the option to select a desk mount during checkout if you want starting at $140. The wall-mountable iMacs don’t actually come with a wall mount, so you’ll have to go out and buy your own on top of the $40 premium for the adapter that Apple slaps on.
Apple seems to have quietly rolled these new models out, and they’re not actively promoting them either, but a link at the bottom of the iMac configuration page will take you to the main page where the wall-mountable iMacs are advertised, where you can then select one to purchase starting at $1,339 for the 21.5-inch model.
However, the new wall-mountable iMac options show a ship date of 7-10 business days, while standard iMacs ship within 24 hours, so if you need an iMac fast, it may be best to get the standard one, but if you’re absolutely dying to have a wall-mountable option, be prepared to wait a couple of weeks.

Yesterday, we brought you word on how Microsoft’s online services suffered from an outage, with the Outlook.com service experiencing issues that spanned a total of 16 hours thereabouts, and it is nice to hear what went wrong. No, it is not because of a ghost in the shell, and neither are there gremlins in the system, but rather, it was due to a botched firmware upgrade at the company’s datacenter.
This update caused some of Microsoft’s customers to remain locked out of their services such as SkyDrive, Hotmail, and Outlook. While Microsoft did manage to update their datacenter firmware without any issues in the past, the most recent attempt “resulted in a rapid and substantial temperature spike in the datacenter”, which sent the mercury high enough to kick off Microsoft’s safeguard process for a host of servers in the datacenter, which hence prevented users to access those mailboxes of theirs.
All’s well that ends well, and Microsoft has promised that something like this will not happen again. It should not anyways, considering the millions of dollars that Microsoft has poured in to advertise the Outlook.com service.

The world of social networking is a breeding ground for very interesting stories, and today, you would be able to read about one of them. Who would have thought that your good friend is actually your relative? Yes sir, a certain Paula O’Brien explained to the world over a Facebook post that she had, for the longest time, wondered what had happened to her niece who was adopted 29 years ago, and was born on September 19th.
It so happened that Abbey Donohoe, one of her 29-year-old friends, actually realized that the birthdate mentioned was that of her own, and figured out that the circumstances shared by Paula was actually a story of her life, reuniting the niece and aunt along the way. What are some of the other heartwarming stories that you have heard because of a Facebook connection? I know someone who has a grudge against Google’s Street View though (granted, that is no social network) as it blew the cover of a cheating fiance. Do share your stories and experiences of serendipity in the comments below.

Kim Dotcom: US Prison’s Not For Me
Posted in: Today's ChiliI am not quite sure about you, but when someone steps forward to give a statement that starts of with,”I will never…”, chances are that person would end up doing the very same thing that he or she vowed not to do in the first place. Having said that, it would be interesting to see how things pan out with Kim Dotcom, the founder of site Megaupload, as he recently said, “I will never be in a prison in the U.S., I can guarantee you that.”
Of course, Kim Dotcom has been accused of being a piracy kingpin in the past with his file sharing service known as Megaupload, and he has since picked up his fair share of knocks by the US government concerning his involvement in such sites, but Kim Dotcom oozed with confidence concerning his upcoming trial, and is adamant that he will not be spending any time behind bars, at least not in a US prison. Does this mean he is open to being a jailbird elsewhere else?

Earlier this evening, the entire RSS world was hit with quite a tsunami of a news, that Google will be shutting down their Google Reader service from the beginning of July 2013. Clearly, there are millions of Google Reader users out there who are still numb from the announcement, but it is nice to see some folks taking up the pro-active approach and creating online petitions to ask the Internet search giant to reconsidering their decision, and let Google Reader maintain its status quo. Heck, it ain’t even April 1 just yet, so this is no joke either.
There is a petition over at Change.org, that has been titled Google: Keep Google Reader Running, and it has picked up a few thousand signatures already, so you might want to add to it. Daniel Lewis, who hails from New York, launched the petition and claimed that Reader’s declining usage as the reason behind Google’s decision. What do you think of this decision from Google that will certainly disrupt our lives? Perhaps Google has something better to take over Reader when July rolls around? Stay tuned to find out more as news develops on the situation.

Native Twitter App for Windows 8
Posted in: Today's ChiliFor Twitter users running Windows 8, great new! Twitter had finally released a native app in Windows Store for Windows 8 on Wednesday. Designed with Windows 8 in mind, Twitter takes advantage of tools like Share function in Charm Bar to allow users to tweet from any app and Live Tiles that will display tweets no matter which app the user is currently using.
On the other hand, Snap view enables user to user another app alongside Twitter. Size of the Twitter app can be adjusted to on-third, two-thirds or full screen. Users can also make use of Windows 8 gestures to swipe photos back and forth. It also features Twitter’s Home, Connect, Discover and Me tabs.
This release is good news not only to Twitter users but to Microsoft as well. Until now, there is no official Twitter application for Microsoft’s new OS. Implementation by most third-party Twitter clients are lackluster. Tweetro, one of the best Windows Store app available previously had run out of user tokens as Twitter capped its ability to take new users. That left Windows users with only Twitter’s web client, until now.
So, have you tried the Twitter app? What do you think of it?

Dell XPS 18 Hands-On Review
Posted in: Today's ChiliDell has announced its Dell XPS 18 at SXSW, and we got a chance to get our hands on it. Dell’s goal with the XP 18 all-in-one (AIO) computer is to design a beautiful and functional “ultimate” home computer. Secondly, the company wants to make sure that the PC performs well, and that the design aspect does not compromise the overall performance and user experience of the product. This is reflected in the hardware options that go all the way to the powerful Intel Core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM.
In terms of design, the Dell XPS 18 is an ultra-thin 18.4″ AIO computer with that is basically built like a 18.4″ Windows 8 tablet with an internal battery and all, although Dell points out that they did not intend users to perceive this (and judge it) as a tablet. This is truly meant to be a PC that you can move around if you want to, but is not designed to be a “mobile” computer in the sense that you would carry it outside or travel with it.
