Students Get Half Year Of Free Office 365 And 20GB Storage From Microsoft

Students Get Half Year Of Free Office 365 And 20GB Storage From MicrosoftWith cloud computing being a mainstay productivity solution for many of us these days, Microsoft has every intention to attract more students to jump over to their subscription-based Office 365 software, and what better way to do so than to put up a brand new promotion which will offer them up to half a year’s worth of free access? Yes sir, for $79.99, Office 365 University will come with a four-year, cloud-based subscription to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, and Access, in addition to 20GB of online storage over SkyDrive, not to mention 60 minutes of Skype calls each month.

Those who are in possession of a .edu email address are able to gain from three months of free access to Office 365 University, but for folks who decide to spread the word by sharing the offer on Facebook after entering an email address on www.officeforstudents.com, they will benefit from an additional three months of free access, now how about that? If you are a student, do these sweeteners help you make the jump if you were in two minds about it before?

Bing Now App Project For Windows Phone

Bing Now App Project For Windows PhoneMicrosoft has a necessity to be a company that is always on the cutting edge of innovation, and they have certainly showed it at the TechFest 2013 event that happened last week. Bing Now, an app that was specially written for Windows Phone devices is currently being hammered out at Microsoft Research. Just what does Bing Now bring to the table? Well, this particular app intends to solve an issue concerning online reviews for locations. It seems that there are moments when the reviews do not come furnished with the latest information, while text reviews are not exactly the most ideal method to offer users a true idea of what the atmosphere of a place would be.

Bing Now’s solution would be to have the user with the app check into a location, in a manner that is not too different from other social networking apps, and the smartphone’s microphone will then capture samples of the sounds happening there. This would then see the Bing Now app make a decision as to whether the location boasted of a “low,” “normal,” or “high” level of sound, now how about that?

I wonder where would the noisiest library in town be when the Bing Now app goes big.

Valve’s ‘Piston’ Steam Box Console Available For Pre-Order Starting At $999

It was at this year’s CES when we officially got to see Valve’s long-rumored Steam Box, which Valve teamed up with Xi3 in order to make it into an actual retail product. It’s only been two months since the Piston PC debuted at CES, and already its manufacturer Xi3 has started taking pre-orders for the device.

Xi3′s Piston Console, which is what the company is officially calling it, will probably be the most expensive “consoles” we’ve ever heard of as the company is setting its pre-order price at $999.99, although Xi3 is discounting it by $100 if potential customers place their order before 11:59 P.M. CST on March 17, 2013. (more…)

Microsoft Improves Bing Experience

Microsoft Improves Bing Experience When it comes to search, most folks would think of Google first, as that is considered to be the premium “brand”, but this does not mean that Microsoft has thrown in the towel where search is concerned. No sir, they do push their Bing service pretty hard, and last year, the world saw Bing Desktop, an engine that merges Bing’s daily homepage images alongside a quick and convenient method to perform search from your desktop. After taking in user feedback for the past months, Microsoft has done what they think would be able to make your Bing Desktop experience a whole lot better.

Some of the new features in the most recent version include the ability to check your news feed and friends’ photos on Facebook without having to launch a browser, in addition to letting you search from the Windows taskbar directly. Not only that, the options menu will now enable you to customize Bing Desktop in order to best suit the way you search, now how about that?

Fujitsu LIFEBOOK E-Series Launched at CeBIT 2013

Fujitsu LIFEBOOK E Series Launched at CeBIT 2013

[CeBIT 2013] Fujitsu launched its new LIFEBOOK E-Series at CeBIT and I had the opportunity to get my hands on the devices. The new lineup comes in three flavors: the E733 features a 13-inch 1366×768 display, the E743 gets a 14-inch 1600×900 display and you can get the 15.6-inch either with a 1366×768 or a Full HD (920×1080) screen.

The new E-series has been built using the same motherboard for the three models, that’s why, as you can see in the picture, all the connectors are located at similar spots on all versions. The unique feature of these notebooks is the modular bay where you can either place a DVD drive, an extra battery, another HDD or the Fujitsu patented bay projector (see picture of the accessory below after the jump). The projector is certainly a convenient option for business travelers who need to perform presentations while on the road.

Intel Ultrabook Prototype with Haswell Spoted at CeBIT

[CeBIT 2013] Yesterday, I met with Karen Regis, Director, Ultrabook Marketing at Intel and she showed me a reference design prototype for an Ultrabook featuring the Intel fourth generation of Intel Core i-series processors (codenamed Haswell).

The 17 millimeter thick device was shown at CES for the first time, and Intel has built only four units like this one. The processor manufacturer has made it easier to detach the touch display by adding a button and a green light to unlock the docking connector (see the demo in the video).

YouTube One Channel Available Across The Board

Well, well, what do we have here? Google is proud to announce that their video content site known as YouTube has just made available YouTube One Channel to the masses, meaning everyone will be able to access it. Some of the more eagle eyed readers out there would have noticed that several YouTube channels have already featured a new look recently, thanks to a limited beta test being run along the way, not to mention this was a careful move after collecting and implementing plenty of feedback from creators.

I guess Google does not want to miss out on a revamp, considering how Facebook did introduce their fair share of changes just earlier this morning. Well, the whole idea of YouTube One Channel would be to make your new channel look stunning, regardless of the browser that it runs on. Not only that, it intends to assist you in converting more visitors into subscribers, while offering a slot for a channel trailer. It will definitely be interesting to see how Internet marketers are going to work on making YouTube a driver for them and draw more customers to their client(s) and site(s).
