Windows XP Infograph Shows Why Users Should Upgrade

Windows XP Infograph Shows Why Users Should UpgradeWindows XP is a very old operating system. In fact it even predates Windows Vista,a  bust by all accounts, meaning that there are still some users out there holding onto Windows XP as they might have chosen not to upgrade to Windows Vista or Windows 7 for whatever reason.

Microsoft has since announced that the final patch for the operating system would be coming soon and has since turned to different methods at attempting to getting users to upgrade to a newer platform, such as through popup notifications. Their latest attempt comes in the form of an infograph which basically highlights all the reasons why one should upgrade ASAP. (more…)

Captain America Parachutes In As Skype Emoticon

Captain America Parachutes In As Skype EmoticonSkype chats has featured emoticons since 2004, and I am quite sure that many of us have memorized the number of fun faces, expressions and icons over the years, simply because they help convey a typed message with greater impact. Of course, living with the same emoticons all the time is going to get boring, which is why the latest version of Skype would introduce emoticons that have adopted new “hidden heroes” alter egos, turning into characters that will star in the upcoming Marvel movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Unreal Engine 4 Runs On Firefox

Web-based games in your browser are nothing new, and most of the time, you would not expect something that is equal to what you can find on a console to run in your Web browser. Well, Mozilla intends to change that line of thought by working alongside Epic Games. Epic Games happens to be the ones behind the most-used middleware in gaming, and in this latest partnership, both companies will deliver the Unreal Engine 4 framework to the web right in time for the Game Developers Conference that is kicking off in San Francisco next week.

VLC For Windows 8 Now Available In The Windows Store

VLC For Windows 8 Now Available In The Windows Store

Just yesterday we reported that the VLC team had announced that the app for Windows 8 was still in the process of being certified. Well the good news is that if you’re a Windows 8 user looking for an optimized version of VLC for your computer, you might be pleased to learn that the app has since been certified and is now available for download via the Windows Store.

Naturally the app itself is a free download just like other versions of VLC in the past, with the main difference is that it will be optimized for the Windows 8 platform. However the team at VLC are calling it a beta and have reminded users as such, so don’t be surprised if you encounter any bugs or whatnot during your use of the device.

The app will support the same codecs as VLC for the desktop, so rest assured that most, if not all your media should be playable. This includes audio files such as MKV, Ogg, Move, FLAC, and MPC. There is also support for embedded subtitles, background audio playback, and more. (more…)

    Popcorn Time Taken Down

Popcorn Time Taken DownWe did talk about the highly controversial Popcorn Time yesterday, and it seems that this Netflix-style movie streaming app which caters for pirated films has been removed from the file sharing site that hosts it. Basically, one can no longer download Popcorn Time freely as they would have been able to do so yesterday, despite the official Popcorn Time website remaining online. However, should you make an attempt to look for the now missing download link, you will be greeted by the message “Download links are down for a bit. We’ll be right back! Careful when downloading from other sources, as we have the only official ones.”
