Nifty MiniDrive Offers Additional MacBook Storage On The Cheap

Nifty MiniDrive Offers Additional MacBook Storage On The CheapNifty MiniDrive started life as a Kickstarter project, where this microSD memory card adapter will be able to fit flush with the side of your favorite portable MacBook computer of choice – the MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. In a nutshell, you are able to add another 64GB of additional flash storage using a single port, and it is a good thing too, since this particular port is not one that many folks use all the time.

The Nifty MiniDrive is also about aesthetics to keep in line with the rest of Apple’s design philosophy, since it ensures that there will be no nasty ends that protrude from the side of your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, since it comes in a custom fit design for various MacBook models. Having said that, if you own an Air version, it will not be at home on the MacBook Pro, and vice versa. Removing the Nifty MiniDrive is a little bit more tricky however, since you need a special tool that thankfully, Nifty has included with each MiniDrive purchase.

Touchscreen Chromebook In The Works (Rumor)

Touchscreen Chromebook In The Works (Rumor)All right, we have heard our fair share of rumors concerning the Chromebook from Google, and the most recent one would be a Chromebook Pixel promo video that touts a touchscreen with a whopping 2560 x 1700 resolution, and the folks over at the Wall Street Journal have reported that such a device, and even devices, are in the pipeline. This is not a surefire confirmation, but it is a step closer in the right direction for sure. Prior to a Google press event that is held tomorrow in San Francisco, the WSJ claimed that “the first touchscreen laptops powered by its Chrome operating system to be sold later this year”.

This is not the first time that mainstream media has revealed more information than it should before an official announcement, and we are quite sure that it will not be the last, either. In fact, as the event is being held at Obscura Digital, it could definitely prove to be a subtle method of letting the world know of a touchscreen Chromebook. Do you think a touchscreen Chromebook will be able to sell by the truckloads?

Preview Your Files In Google Drive

Preview Your Files In Google DriveDo you use Google Drive a whole lot ever since it was released? Working on the cloud sure as heck has its fair share of advantages, but sometimes, when you do not have access to the Internet, that would be the moment where a local file comes in handy. Well, Google intends to make Google Drive a whole lot more user friendly this time around by offering you the option of previewing your file before opening it. You are able to check out over 30 file types, where you can then quickly flip between those files until you come across the one that you were looking for.

The new preview can be seen automatically if you open a photo, video, or PDF. In order to check out a preview of a Google document, all you need to do is right-click on the file name, select “preview”, and you’re good to go. The moment the preview window is open, click on the arrows on either side to flip to other files. The preview itself allows you to check out video files or scroll through multi-page documents, how about that? This is definitely a step in the right direction in increasing productivity levels at the office for sure. Expect to see this feature roll out in the coming days.

Russian Meteor Creates New Online Video Record

Russian Meteor Creates New Online Video RecordIt was sometime last week when the whole world was shocked as a 10-ton meteor actually bore down on Russia, and injured nearly 1,000 people in its fallout upon landing – or rather, crashing into Russian territory. Having said that, you can also say that fans of South Korean sensation Psy will have a piece or two to counter that. Basically, the Russian meteor has broken new records on YouTube as well as DailyMotion, where collectively, all eyewitness meteor videos uploaded to both online video services have picked up over 130 million views throughout the weekend – at least, according to social analysis service Visible Measures.

This is the highest rate of viral growth ever recorded where an online video event is concerned. Visible Measures have identified over 400 videos which were uploaded since last Friday, and some 160 of them have already passed the 100,000 views mark. The winner is far out in front at 26.7 million views and counting, but it still has a long way to go before being able to smell the 1 billion views mark of Gangnam Style.

Asus Sabertooth AMD-based Motherboard Announced

Asus Sabertooth AMD based Motherboard AnnouncedAsus has a first today – having announced the TUF Series Sabertooth 990FX/GEN3 R2.0, which is touted to be the first AMD-based motherboard in the world that will carry PCI Express 3.0, allowing you to include next generation high performance graphics cards inside. In fact, you can carry up to a trio of DirectX 11 graphics cards with 28nm GPU technology within, where these can be set up via NVIDIA SLI or AMD CrossFireX. I guess gaming and performance enthusiasts will find the Asus Sabertooth to resonate the most with them, and with the famous Asus TUF Series thermal design, you can be sure that overheating is not going to be on the list of issues to contend with.

Similar to all other TUF Series motherboards, the Sabertooth has also undergone military and server-grade testing in order to make sure of its absolute stability, reliability, and longevity. Other features include a quartet of DIMM slots, Northbridge and Southbridge, independent and automatic fan speed control, and of course, a five-year warranty for that added peace of mind.

AMD Turbo Dock Technology Announced

AMD Turbo Dock Technology AnnouncedThese days, we do seem to see more and more companies take the multi-tasking route, that is, to roll out multi-functional devices and hybrids. Remember the good old days when your mobile phone was just that, and it did not do anything more other than to make and receive calls in addition to text messages? Well, smartphones have more or less rendered the featurephone defunct, and AMD intends to eke out a tiny market space by introducing their AMD Turbo Dock system, which is something that will automatically adjust the performance of an AMD-powered tablet, depending on whether it remains hooked up to a keyboard dock or not.

When in tablet mode, you will be able to enjoy 1080p HD video playback support, 3D gaming capability and a host of other features, but your CPU will not have to run at full speed since changes are you will not be running processor intensive tasks. AMD claims that their Turbo Dock technology is able to provide a boost to CPU and GPU performance by up to 40% whenever it is docked. Will it catch on later this year as hybrid tablets based on the AMD Temash platform arrive? Only time will tell, so stay tuned.
