Teen Quits Facebook For $200

Teen Quits Facebook For $200Just how much money are you willing to be paid to stop using Facebook altogether? Well, Paul Baier’s daughter was offered $200 (to be paid out in stages) to quit Facebook, and surprisingly, she said “Okay” to that deal, and will receive $50 this coming April, with the remaining $150 on June 26th. Why June 26th? Well, that particular date would mean the end of the school year, which translates to an entire five months of life without Facebook.

Just before you wonder whether Paul is being too harsh on his daughter, it was actually her idea to quit Facebook. Paul said, “She turns it on, she’ll have 30 to 40 — 50 little alerts things popping up too. She’s frustrated she can’t find babysitting jobs and she said, ‘Dad, would you pay me to get off Facebook?’ I thought she was joking.”

I guess this is where the wheat is separate from the chaff, considering how she’s an honors student. I’m also quite sure that there are other honors students out there who can still maintain a balance between Facebook and life, but to each his or her own, eh?

Yahoo And Google Snuggle Up For Advertising

Yahoo And Google Snuggle Up For AdvertisingYahoo has approached Google to further increase their advertising revenue, at least under the direction of Yahoo chief Marissa Mayer. It must be noted that Mayer was an employee with the world’s most popular search engine for the better part of 13 years before she decided to steer the ship that is known as Yahoo, going through turbulent times and choppy waters. Yahoo mentioned that they will start to utilize Google’s AdSense and AdMob services as it intends to increase sales from the content on its own pages.

These ads will make an appearance on Yahoo’s sites when it comes to finance, news, sports and autos segments, in a plan to have users spend more of their time on a dozen of Yahoo’s top sites. Will this partnership with Google eventually bear decent fruit for Yahoo? Only time will tell, but hey, if you never try, you will never know, right?

Yahoo posted, “By adding Google to our list of world-class contextual ads partners, we’ll be able to expand our network, which means we can serve users with ads that are even more meaningful.”

Apple Informs French Reseller Of New Mac Pro

Apple Informs French Reseller Of New Mac ProAt the end of last month, we did bring you word that Apple was informed to stop selling their current generation Mac Pro in Europe from the beginning of March, but that was not going to be an issue for the fruity company in the first place. After all, French site MacGeneration has reported that Apple did inform a French Apple reseller that it has plans for Europe – not exactly on the continent domination scale, but rather, to introduce a refreshed version of the Mac Pro later this spring.

It was just last week that Apple informed their European retailers via a letter that Cupertino will cease production of its current generation of Mac Pros, which resulted in a fair share of rumors arising, followed by speculation of a new generation Mac Pro arriving on the horizon. Just in case you were wondering, the new and upcoming Mac Pro will be the first overhaul for Apple’s professional desktop computer for the better part of the last three years.

Siri For Mac Could Appear In OS X 10.9 According To Job Listing

Siri For Mac Could Appear In OS X 10.9 According To Job ListingBack in September of 2012, a patent by Apple surfaced which suggested that perhaps Siri could be coming to Mac OS in the future, and rumors of OS X 10.9 also suggested that Siri and Maps could be integrated into the computer OS as well. As it stands there is no official word from Apple regarding that possibility, but a job listing spotted by Apple Insider has revealed possible plans as well, thus making the rumors and speculation a bit more believable.

The job calls for a Siri UI Engineer and according to some of the qualities the candidate should possess, it reads, “Familiarity with Unix, especially Mac OS X […] Passion for the Macintosh platform and writing simple, elegant software that is easy and fun to use.” Since Siri is currently limited to iOS, the requirement of familiarity with Mac OS X is rather interesting. Obviously no word on if this holds any merit, or when it will launch, but some believe Siri for Mac OS X could be announced for version 10.9. Either way we’ll take this with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Anyone looking forward to having Siri on your Mac?

Dell XPS 13 Ultrabooks Gets Full HD Display At Last

Dell XPS 13 Ultrabooks Gets Full HD Display At LastThe Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook was one of the better models that we reviewed last year when it was first released, and it is nice to see Dell keep to their promise as well as ensuring they do not fall behind the times by rolling out an optional 1920 x 1080 pixel display, allowing you to enjoy a Full HD 1080p display. Of course, to get that kind of resolution, you would need to fork out more money, and we are looking at two pricing options – $1,400 and $1,600, where the only difference between the two would be its processor with the cheaper option sporting a 3rd generation Intel Core i5-3337U, while the latter sports a 3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3537U processor.

If you feel that you have no need for a Full HD display and yet want to bring home the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook, fret not, regular display options will still be made available from $999 upwards. It does not matter whether you are looking at the Dell XPS 13 with Windows 8 or a Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition with Ubuntu 12.04 Linux, the Full HD option is still available. [Product Page]

Dell Buyout Rumored To Be Announced Later Today

Dell Buyout Rumored To Be Announced Later TodayIt has been rumored that Dell could be interested in going private, and there are talks that Microsoft could be interested in investing in the company and pump as much as $3 billion into it. While it remains to be seen if those rumors pan out, it seems that we might not have to wait for long because according to new rumors, it is possible that Dell’s buyout could be announced as soon as today (via WSJ). It also seems that Microsoft might not be the only interested party as private equity company Silver Lake Partners is also expected to buy a stake in Dell by paying up to $1 billion, while Microsoft’s contribution will be $2 billion which will be in the form of debt.

It has been speculated that the reason Microsoft is interested is because of Dell’s role as one of the major PC manufacturers, and Microsoft is fighting to protect its Windows operating system, especially since the focus has started to shift towards smartphones and tablets these days. Not an entirely wild speculation as it holds some merit, not to mention Microsoft stands to gain as well if Dell were to succeed since they would then have a stake in the company. We’ll take this with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will know by the end of the day if the rumors pan out.
