Job Listing Suggests iWork And iLife Revamps Could Be Underway

Job Listing Suggests iWork And iLife Revamps Could Be UnderwayWhile Apple’s iWork and iLife productivity suites are functional, some of you might be feeling that perhaps it’s time for Apple to make some substantial updates, especially since Microsoft Office 2013 has been released not too long ago. Apple has yet to make any announcements on that matter, but both Apple Bitch and MacNN have noted that there were job listings for senior software engineers who are expected to help out with the iLife and iWork team, suggesting that perhaps a major redevelopment of both productivity suites could be in the works. The job listings reveal that Apple might be looking to rework the interface of iWork and iLife, although we expect that improvements and upgrades under the hood will be taking place as well. No word on when the alleged revamped versions of iWork or iLife will be revealed, but considering that the major update for iWork and iLife took place four and two years ago respectively, we guess it’s about time.

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix Misses February Release Date

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix Misses February Release DateWe managed to get a glimpse of the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix at the recently concluded CES 2013 in Las Vegas last month, and just in case you were wondering whether you would be able to bring home the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix at the end of this February, you’re out of luck. Over on Facebook, the folks at Lenovo dropped the ball that the convertible Ultrabook would see its price point pushed all the way back to March or even April this year. The statement that said it all? “…unfortunately we received word that it will be delayed till March or April. More details will be announced soon. Thanks.”

Just to refresh our respective memories, the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix will come with an 11.6-inch 1080p Gorilla Glass display in addition to a rather hefty $1,499 price point for its most basic configuration. Well, I guess you would need to pay through your nose if you want good quality stuff, right? After all, when you pay peanuts, you get, yup – monkeys.

Super WiFi For Free Suggested By Government

Super WiFi For Free Suggested By GovernmentA government that moves with the times would know how to soothe and make themselves appealing to the voting public with populist policies, and it seems that our government might be on the cusp of an interesting technological wooing point – to develop free and public Super WiFi networks not in just one state, but across the US. The FCC is mulling over such a proposal, where it will then require local TV stations and broadcasters to sell wireless spectrum to the government. Subsequently, the government will make use of that spectrum in order to build public Wi-Fi networks.

Needless to say, these will not be any ordinary Wi-Fi network, but rather, would be a whole lot stronger compared to the average one due to the spectrum used to build them. On paper, their signal would travel across long distances without missing a beat, while being able to penetrate thick walls and other objects. Should it be successful, do you think that many folks would proceed to cancel their cellular and Internet plans? After all, if something is freely available and works just fine as a paid product, why not settle for the former?

Google Conjures $82 Million Innovation Fund For French Media

Google Conjures $82 Million Innovation Fund For French MediaGoogle and France have not had the best of relationships in recent memory, but it is thought that the relationship between company and country should be on the rise in the near future, as Google has started to show that they are willing to work with the authorities there in their ongoing dispute when it comes to displaying links from France’s media sites. In fact, Google’s Eric Schmidt soothed cracks in their relationship by creating a €60 million (which converts to approximately $82 million) “Digital Publishing Innovation Fund” which is said to “support transformative digital publishing initiatives for French readers.”

Apart from that, Google continues with their initiative by furthering its partnership with French publishers as they will offer help for them to use Google ad technologies in order to increase online revenues. You know what they say about your chickens coming home to roost – this precedent might see other countries asking Google to do the same, too. What do you think of the situation?
