Samsung Series 7 Chronos Laptop
Posted in: Today's Chili[CES 2013] Here is the Samsung Series 7 Chronos, a line of laptops that Samsung intends to present next week at CES 2013. The Samsung Series 7 is aimed at the professional market, an area where Samsung says it has expended in 2012 (according to David Song, Senior Vice President of IT & Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics) and that it wants to accelerate in 2013.
The first Samsung Series 7 laptop for 2013 is the Samsung Chronos 770Z5E, a 15.6″ laptop with a full HD (1920×1080) 10-point multi-touch display. The specifications make it a dream 15.6″ Windows 8 laptop. In terms of industrial design, Samsung has chosen a full-aluminum body to increase the durability (a key decision factor for enterprises), but this has an influence of the weight which tops 5.18lbs which is not the lightest in the 15.4″ segment, but which remains competitive in the 15.4 touch-screen segment.

It was back in 2011 when Samsung announced its Series 7 Chronos notebook that combined a nice, brushed metal exterior with an even nice interior stuff with an AMD Radeon HD670M, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 750GB HDD to offer quite the impressive package.
This year, Samsung is looking to refresh its Series 7 Chronos with better hardware including an AMD Radeon HD8870M GPU, a full 1920×1080 HD display, JBL stereo speakers and RAMaccelerator, which promises to load applications 50 percent faster.
That’s all we have at this time for the upcoming refresh of the Samsung Series 7 Chronos. That and the CGI-tastic teaser video Samsung released today that makes its Series 7 Chronos look way more impressive than it probably will be. Unless the Chronos 7 actually is made by combining a metal eagle into a metal dog and performs like a metal bear. If that turns out to be the case, you can probably consider the Series 7 Chronos to be one of the most expensive notebooks ever as we’re sure capturing all-metal versions of those animals extremely dangerous and expensive.

Tobii has been teasing its ability to track a users’ eye movements in order to use their computer for quite some time, but it has yet to make its device available to the general public. This is about to change as the company is announcing it will be selling its REX device to developers starting next week and will be made widely available in the second half of 2013.
“This is a natural step for us. We have been working on products for niche markets for many years, but the ultimate goal has always been to develop our technology so it can be added to any computer, and a peripheral is the easiest way to do that,” said Sara Hyléen, marketing director at Tobii.
The REX will be a peripheral that will attach itself to the computer’s display and keeps track of the user’s eye movements with two specially built optical sensors. At CES next week, Tobii will be demonstrating its technology as we’ll be able to see users select, scroll, zoom and navigate their computer simply by using their eyes.

At one point it would seem that netbooks could be the next big thing. After all they were pretty tiny in size meaning that portability and mobility were not an issue. However over the years, especially with the introduction of smartphones and tablets, not to mention Ultrabooks, it would seem that the relevancy of netbooks was slowly dying and come 2013, it looks like some of the netbooks bigger manufacturers such as ASUS and Acer have announced that starting from the 1st of January 2013, they would be ceasing the production of their netbook lineup. This means that if you still want a netbook for whatever reason, you’ll probably have to move quick since remaining stock at retailers will not be replenished once they are gone. Personally the netbook did not have that big an impact on me as Ultrabooks and tablets did, but what do you guys think?

Some folks go for bird watching, others prefer to stake it out in the wild for some sort of wildlife spotting sessions, but when you have your life intertwined with the online world for hours on end each day, you know for sure that we are not here to look for any kind of organic lifeforms. Rather, we are always on the lookout for new and unreleased devices, hoping to get the scoop as early as possible. One quietly introduced device that appeared on Asus’ website would be the Asus Zenbook Touch U500VZ that comes in a 15” form factor.
It does seem as though the Asus Zenbook Touch U500VZ will feature a touch panel display, making it more or less a version of the UX51Vz with just that as everything else about the system specifications do seem to be similar. Underneath the hood, there will be a Core i7-3632QM processor, a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics processor, dual 256GB SSDs, IPS technology for its Full HD touchscreen, among others. No idea on pricing and availability as at press time.

California, Illinois Employers Cannot Request For Employee Facebook Passwords
Posted in: Today's ChiliI am not quite sure just how the law allows employers to know an employee’s Facebook password in the first place, but I am glad that the courts have ruled that employers in California and Illinois no longer have the authority or rule of power to request for Facebook passwords from their employees. This particular law took effect as the clock struck 12:01 am in both the states of California and Illinois. Basically, employers can no longer request for social networking passwords as well as non-public account information from current or potential employees, and that would mean your social network shenanigans are safe, at least for the time being.
Just for context, Michigan passed a similar law last month. Employees should bear in mind that employers are still able to view any public posts, tweets or photos on the social networks, so make sure you have all of your privacy settings set right unless you want to run into trouble with a wayward comment or an awkward photo.

[CES 2013] CES 2013 is just around the corner, and we are stoked at the tons of consumer electronics devices that are headed our way. Samsung has a couple of premium monitors for the masses, where they come in the form of the Series 7 SC770 Touch Monitor that has been optimized for Windows 8, and the Series 7 SC750 which arrives in a slim, ergonomic design and delivers premium picture quality. The Series 7 Touch (SC770) is a touch-sensitive monitor that delivers up to 10 points of simultaneous multi-touch, allowing you to drag, rotate or select objects on the monitor with but your fingers alone. You get a 60-degree tilt so that the entire user experience is a comfortable one.
As for the Series 7 SC750, it will come in a slim, ergonomic design that delivers a 90-degree pivot for added convenience to users. Meant for surfing the web and viewing documents regardless of whether it is in landscape or portrait modes, the SC750 monitor delivers a 5,000:1 contrast ratio that is more or less five times that of a standard monitor. No idea on pricing just yet, but both monitors will arrive worldwide sometime before the first quarter of 2013 is over. [Press Release]
