Windows Blue Does Not Resurrect Start Button

windows blue Windows Blue Does Not Resurrect Start ButtonIf there is one major change in Windows 8 compared to all the other versions of Windows in the past, it would be this – the famous Start button is missing, and for folks who have been keeping their fingers crossed that Windows Blue which is set to arrive sometime in summer next year will see the return of the iconic Star button, you will be disappointed. CNbeta reports that Windows Blue will not be bringing the Start button back to Windows 8, ensuring that it remains as a relic of the past.

This might come across as pompous on Microsoft’s part, but assuming they were to budge from their previous position, it would mean that Microsoft would have caved in to users’ requests. Well, we do know that Windows Blue will definitely include tweaks made to the desktop, in addition to updates introduced to the taskbar as well. The entire user interface will seem to be flattened if reports are true, and the kernel should be bumped to 6.3.

21-inch iMac 2012 (Thin) Review: Looks Only Get You So Far

Mysterious ASUS P1801-T Spotted At The FCC

asusfcc Mysterious ASUS P1801 T Spotted At The FCCThanks to a recent FCC filing, a certain ASUS P1801-T has been revealed. Unfortunately apart from the model number, not much else is known about the device but according to the folks at Engadget, they are speculating that this could be the ASUS Transformer AiO prototype which was demonstrated earlier this year at Computex 2012. For starters they reasoned that with the ASUS Eee Slate B121 featuring a 12.1” display, the P1801 could suggest that it might feature an 18”-ish display, and the “T” at the end suggests that it might be a tablet of sorts, although at 18” can it really be called a tablet? Facebook Stories App To Meet New Years Eve Head On

stories Facebook Stories App To Meet New Years Eve Head OnFacebook, the world’s most popular social network, has just announced that they will be doing the general public a great service when the clock strikes 12 this December 31st, as we bid goodbye to this year, and usher in 2013 – so much for the world ending on December 21st, eh? Well, Facebook’s upcoming feature via the ‘Stories’ application will enable users to send a personalized special greeting to select friends at the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve. Touted to be a ‘Midnight Message Delivery’ system, it is said to guarantee a holiday greeting to friends who are on your “nice” list.

Guaranteed delivery is definitely something that we love to hear, considering how during holidays such as Christmas and New Year, the mobile phone networks tend to get jammed as millions and millions of people overload the network, trying to send a message out to their loved ones simultaneously. Oh yeah, and since it is free, why not, no?

MSI S20 Ultrabook Up For $1100

msi s20 MSI S20 Ultrabook Up For $1100Are you in the market at the moment for a spanking new Ultrabook? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you might be interested to pick up something that is slightly different from the usual suspects that are Lenovo, Dell, Samsung and Toshiba. Ever considered what MSI is able to conjure up? Well, assuming you have $1100 thereabouts to spare, you might want to make a pit stop for the MSI S20 Ultrabook that does seem to resemble a somewhat chunky tablet at first glance, that is, until you slide out the keyboard from under the display. Doing so will make it resemble more like a notebook with a screen that has been locked in place at an approximately 45 degree angle.

First shown off this summer to the masses, the MSI S20 is up for pre-order from ExcaliberPC for $1099, where there are also whispers of it being shipped in Europe for around €999. Underneath the hood of the MSI S20, you will find an Intel Core i5-3317U processor, an 11.6” 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS display, 4GB RAM, and a 128GB SSD, accompanied by a couple of USB 3.0 ports and a mini HDMI port among others. I find it rather difficult to call this an Ultrabook considering the 2kg plus weight though.

Google Offers Free Calls Within US And Canada Through 2013

freecalls Google Offers Free Calls Within US And Canada Through 2013The day of Christmas itself might be over for everyone, but this does not mean that goodwill should no longer be extended to folks around you. The good people over at Google must be looking forward to the loot that Santa has in store for them next year by being nice to millions of people living in the US and Canada, as Google has just announced that they will continue to allow you to perform free domestic calls through the year of 2013 within the US and the Great White North, making it a snap to connect with friends and family scattered all over.

Apart from that, in most of the countries where this calling service is supported by Google, the Internet search giant claims that they will still continue to provide insanely low rates. It is nice to hear good news once in a while, especially when our media is flooded with all manner of depressing information. What do you think of this prolonged offer from Google, and how are you going to best take advantage of it?

Windows 8 Preview Versions Expire On January 15 2013

windows8 Windows 8 Preview Versions Expire On January 15 2013It is a known fact that Windows 8 finally went on sale a couple of months back, but even so, you cannot rule out a certain segment of computer users who might be running one of the three previously released free preview versions of Windows 8. If you happen to fall under that segment, then take note – the amount of time you will spend with Microsoft’s most recent operating system will soon come to an end, just like all good things in life. All three preview builds of Windows 8 (Developer, Consumer and Release) are set to expire on January 15th next year. Originally, the Developer Preview was meant to expire even earlier – specifically on April 8th this year, but Microsoft’s patch that rolled out prior helped extend its date to January 15th in 2013.

Once the calendar hits January 16th, the preview versions will inform users by sending a message that says it will restart Windows each hour until a new product activation key is entered. Definitely one way to “force” an upgrade by being annoying, don’t you think so? Well, as long as it gets the job done, I suppose.

Game Of Thrones Is Most Pirated 2012 TV Show

gameofthrones Game Of Thrones Is Most Pirated 2012 TV ShowWhen it comes to a story that has a list, that simply resonates with the readers for some strange reason or another. I guess folks are always drawn to a “Top 10” compilation, as everyone has an opinion. Well, some of the lists do have unwilling participants, and I am not quite sure what to make of a list where the most pirated shows in 2012 are listed. Game of Thrones is right up there at the top of TorrentFreak’s list, where this information was compiled after taking into consideration public BitTorrent file trackers and other unnamed sources, where Game of Thrones hit 4.28 million downloads for a single episode. Far behind in second position would be Dexter, having being dethroned (how ironic) with 2.75 million downloads.

Folks have their fair share of theories as to why Game of Thrones topped the list, apart from the fact that it is an above average TV drama that does deserve a viewing over and over. For instance, in other countries, episodes are aired days, and in some places, weeks after they are first shown in the US, and with the world being filled with impatience, where else do desperate Game of Thrones fans turn to other than the Internet?

Verizon FIOS Hacked (Rumor)

On Saturday evening, there was a story making its rounds that a hacker claimed to have nicked information from approximately 3 million Verizon Wireless customers which was in plain-text, and this hacker allegedly posted the information for 300,000 customers online from Saturday onwards. Calling himself “TibitXimer”, the hacker mentioned over Twitter (prior to the account being removed) some clarifications, stating that the names and information were taken from a list of Verizon FIOS customers, where content of such information include sensitive data such as serial numbers, names, addresses, starting date with Verizon, password to one’s account, and phone numbers among others.

What about the folks over at Verizon? How are they taking it? The carrier has stepped forward with a statement of their own, where Verizon spokesman Alberto Canal claimed that “The ZDNet story is inaccurate. The ZDNet story is inaccurate. We reported this incident to the authorities when we first learned of it months ago and an investigation was launched. No Verizon systems were breached, no root access was gained, and this incident impacted a fraction of the number of individuals being reported.”

I guess everyone else can sleep easy this Christmas, but I won’t be surprised of TibitXimer comes up and throws a spanner in the works along the way.
