Facebook’s had friendship pages for a while, but they hadn’t been updated and they looked like anachronisms next to Facebook’s current design. Now they look much closer to the Timeline pages served by default, and they’ve even included a “Share Friendship” button to prove to your other “friends” that you actually have friends. But the coolest part is that Facebook has dedicated an entire URL to your romantic relationship. If you’re in a relationship (lucky you) and Facebook knows about it (explicitly) head over to Facebook.com/US to take a walk down memory lane with your squeeze.

While there are some videos currently embedded on Wikipedia pages–according to this category, 244 of them–Wikipedia isn’t really known as a place where people upload and watch videos. The problem is that Wikipedia’s old video player only played Ogg files. Which is fine, because we’ve got YouTube and other services for that, but there are a lot of articles where creative-commons licensed video could make a huge difference. Which is why it’s great that Wikipedia is finally pulling their HTML 5 video player out of beta. Your Wikipedia is about to get a lot more multimedia. (more…)

Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo is announcing that it is now the global market leader in consumer and notebook personal computers. The company recently published its second fiscal quarter results which showed that its PC shipments grew 10.3 percent. In terms of sales, Lenovo said that its net income in the second quarter, which is around $162 million, saw a 13 percent annual increase with gross margin at 12.1 percent.
“Lenovo became the worldwide number one consumer and notebook PC company in fiscal quarter two and remained as the largest PC company in emerging markets, including China,” the company told the Hong Kong stock exchange. Lenovo’s claim might sound ballsy, but at least it has the numbers to prove.
Lenovo’s increasing shipments seems to support the claim that the company is succeeding in a time where others are struggling. In October this year, research firm Gartner said that the global PC shipments have declined 8.3 percent compared to Q3 last year. The firm also announced that Lenovo took the top spot in worldwide PC shipments for the first time.

Go Turn on “Do Not Track” on Chrome
Posted in: Today's ChiliChrome added a Do Not Track feature to its 23rd build, released yesterday. Do Not Track is a W3C specification for browsers to add a feature that’s been included in browsers like Firefox for a while. It basically tells connecting webservers that the browser doesn’t want to be tracked, and it’s up to the individual server whether to acknowledge that wish. It’s turned off by default, though, so if you don’t want to be tracked (and why would you) and you’ve got an up-to-date version of Chrome, you can turn it on by going to settings, asking to see advanced settings, and clicking a checkbox.

Toshiba Satellite U845W Review
Posted in: Today's Chili
Over the past couple of months, it’s become clear that the way computer makers–those companies that specify and brand the actual physical device–need to make less models. It’s because when you’re optimizing for portability and battery life, what you don’t include is almost as important what you do include. Newcomers to the laptop game Vizio and Razer have adopted this one-model few-options approach, and computers like Microsoft’s Surface show that it’s increasingly about the product, not the customization.

Dell first unveiled the Dell Inspiron 14z in June this year alongside the slightly lighter and thinner 13z. But as to when they will arrive, we still don’t know. Today, however, TmoNews is reporting that it has solved the mystery surrounding the availability of the 14z. It looks like T-Mobile and Dell are teaming up to launch the Inspiron 14z on the 14th of November. According to the leaked document, as seen above, it shows that the Dell Inspiron 14z will feature an extra fast solid-state hard drive and will also support T-Mobile’s 4G network. The Windows 8-based notebook will also arrive pre-installed with a T-Mobile application to help manage data, billing cycles, self-help and more. Unfortunately, the pricing was not revealed, although we previously mentioned that it might retail for $699.99. Other features that we know, so far, are its 7-hour battery life, brushed aluminum finish, and two color choices of Moon Silver and Fire Red.
