Samsung Smart TVs receive Amazon Instant Video streaming app

Samsung has made their 2012 range of Smart TVs all the more appealing by introducing the Amazon Instant Video streaming app from today onwards, allowing you to enjoy movies as well as TV shows via an Internet connection. Of course, you could say that one is experiencing a sensory overload considering how other options in the market already include Blockbuster, Hulu Plus, Netflix and Vudu.I guess having yet another choice for the mass market would not hurt, right? If not, there would not be a myriad of smartphones out there in the market as it is.

Samsung will also introduce a redesigned interface that has been specially tuned for a big screen experience, delivering quick access to queuing, recommendations and captioning. I guess you can safely say that if you have always wanted something larger than what you saw on your Kindle Fire HD, this is it. [Press Release]

Tweetphony is symphony of tweets

I always like the way technology and the arts merge together, meeting in the middle and delivering a totally new take on what was once something traditional. The Metropole Orchestra, for instance, will take to the social network Twitter for a performance known as ‘Tweetphony’, which is a symphony of tweets. The main objective of Tweetphony is to raise awareness of the fact that it’s subsidy and existence are under threat. Participants who drop by the campaign site are able to rely on a digital piano interface in order to compose their music, while listening to other compositions. You can then tweet it, transforming the musical notes into the letters associated with them. Folks who click on the tweet’s link will be redirected to the site, allowing them to listen in to the tune on a bespoke music player.

Only the most interesting tweets will be picked by the orchestra, where they will play a special live concert this coming October 26th. Expect short videos of the orchestra playing the tweets to be made available over at YouTube, which is where the live stream will be broadcast as well.

New Mac mini taken apart, benchmarked

The updated Mac mini was introduced to the world just a couple of days ago, and it did not take too long for someone to take one of these newfangled desktops and tear it apart, revealing to all and sundry what lies underneath the hood. Of course, we are well aware that Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors will power this puppy, with the option for one to configure the Mac mini to carry a whopping 16GB RAM, although the entry-level model will come with a quarter of that amount. At least it is far better than its predecessor that featured just 2GB RAM, making it barely enough for OS X Mountain Lion to chug along..

Apple’s new Fusion Drive is also worth noting, where this hybrid device will rely on a solid state drive in order to maximize read/write times, while a hard drive will help deliver the need for high storage capacity. Chances are the mid-tier range of the Mac mini will be the most popular thanks to the $799 price point with it carrying Fusion. A Geekbench benchmark test was performed on the updated Mac mini that delivered superior performance to its predecessor, which is to be expected. Are you all up for the new Mac mini?

Rumor: The Nexus 10 Will Have a 2560×1600 Screen

We know that Google’s announcing something Android in New York City on October 29. We’re pretty sure that there’s going to be a 32GB Nexus 7 introduced, along with possibly a Nexus phone, and the possibility of a 10-inch Nexus Tablet. What we didn’t expect is this rumor that came through the wires today: the Nexus 10 could be packing a 2560×1600 screen with 300ppi. That would be great, and certainly a genuine competitor for the Retina iPad, which went through its second iteration yesterday without the Android camp matching it with a high resolution tablet.

Chrome Web Store launches Docs, Sheets and Slides apps

Google did some housekeeping earlier this year by folding their online office suite into the Google Drive online storage service. If you did not notice by now, whenever you type docs.google.com in the address bar of your web browser, you will automatically be redirected to drive.google.com. Well, I would say that most folks would have gotten accustomed to the changes by now, and Google decided to make life a wee bit easier for folks who want to create new text, spreadsheet, or presentation documents using a single click. By introducing a range of new web apps in the Chrome Web Store, you are now able to add such shortcuts to your Chrome web browser or Chrome OS device.

Of course, this does not discount the fact that you are required to launch Google Drive still should you want to have a full view of your current documents and files on the cloud, but should you require the shortcuts for specific office apps, they are over at the Chrome Web Store known as Docs, Sheets and Slides.
