The Murderbox MK II computer case will cost you $1,200

For the budget gamer, spending $1,200 on a computer isn’t too bad and can get one a somewhat decent rig. It might not be able to run Crysis 2 on Ultra at 60fps, but it should get the job done if the parts are chosen wisely. The more serious gamer could spend a couple of thousand instead but most of the time, the money is spent on hardware like its graphics card, SSDs, custom cooling and whatnot. However if you have the cash to spare and want to build a custom gaming machine, then perhaps this PC gaming case dubbed the Murderbox MK II might be worth checking out.

Priced at a staggering $1,200 for the case alone, it’s most definitely murder on the wallets of many and would almost be sacrilege to fill it up with low or mid-ranged hardware. Made completely out of raw aluminum that has been mechanically etched and then anodized, the case is put together by hand to ensure that everything fits. It might be a bit redundant given that you’ll definitely need to take it apart to put in your components, but it’s good to know that testing has been done to ensure that everything is a perfect fit. Unfortunately only 499 units will be made so if you’ve got the money to spare, head on over to the Murderbox website to reserve one for yourself.

DARPA Designs New Robots After Cheetah And Pack Mule (Videos)

DARPA's Pack Mule RobotBiomimicry is almost a byword of the Defense
Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Indeed, if any group has
discovered that ‘nature does it better,’ it’s DARPA, and you have to
admit the Agency is pretty adept at imitating it.  Here, are two of
DARPA’s latest robotic tributes to nature’s designs: the Cheetah Bot and

Microsoft Office 2013 and Office 365 priced

There is no exact release date as to when Microsoft will roll out Office 2013 and Office 365 worldwide, but at the very least, we are able to get a handle on the price point. Standalone versions that have been licensed for use on just one computer will still be sold over the counter, but Microsoft’s new price points want to make experiencing Office 2013 and Office 365 at home and at the office a far more affordable one through a subscription package model instead. Internet Explorer bug fix pushed to the masses

IE logoMicrosoft has strongly encouraged Windows users earlier this morning to install a free piece of security software which is said to be able to offer protection for PCs from a newly discovered bug that is making its rounds on those using the Internet Explorer browser. According to Microsoft, this particular security flaw is said to be able to enable hackers to take remote control of an infected computer. Since there are millions of Internet Explorer users out there, it would do well for IT administrators to do something about the situation in their respective office just to walk on the safe side.

This will be an interim measure, and make no mistake about it, Microsoft will definitely be working on fixing the bug in conjunction with a newer and more secure version of Internet Explorer. This security tool is a free download, where it is known as the Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit, or EMET for short, and you can download it from Microsoft’s website.

HP CEO Says Your HP Laptop Feels Like a “Brick”

Don’t you love it when CEOs are painfully honest? Current HP CEO Meg Whitman (who was previously the Ebay CEO and candidate for governor of California) didn’t like her first HP laptop, saying the company that employs her “gave me a brick.”

This isn’t the first time that she’s criticized her own company’s products. In 2011, while looking at HP’s desktop lineup, she asked “why would anybody buy that?” Of course, her response is a bunch of business-speak: they’ve reorganized HP’s PC teams and re-emphasized design. To be fair, HP designs did get a lot better over the last few years, although possibly not fast enough for their new CEO.

We have an upcoming review of the HP Envy 4 Ultrabook, and it felt like a brick, but in a good way. Are any HP laptop owners out there upset that your laptop’s maker is insulting your rig?

New Acer Chromebooks coming in October?

This is last year’s Chromebook. We wonder how the new one will look like

Last year’s Chromebook launch may have failed to set the laptop world on fire, but at least one manufacturer is coming out with new models. DigiTimes is reporting that Acer is prepping a second-generation laptop that runs on Google’s browser-based operating system to be released in mid-October. The sources that tipped DigiTimes speculate that the decision is a bit of a passive-aggressive response to Microsoft, whose Windows 8-based Surface is coming out around the same time. Acer is also hoping that Chromebooks can bolster their declining netbook business.

Last year’s Acer Cromia came with a dual-core 1.66GHz Atom processor, an 11.6-inch display, 2GB of RAM, a 16GB SSD, and a front 1.3-megapixel webcam. You can expect this year’s model to feature a better processor, and possibly more storage space. Acer is hoping to sell up to 200,000 Chromebooks a month, which seems like a lot, but keep in mind that’s how many iPhone 5 pre-orders sold in two hours.

Skype with Metro-inspired design expected to launch soon

SkypeAccording to the folks at The Verge, it seems like we can expect to see a Skype update coming in time for the holidays and possibly as early as next month. Apart from the usual expected bug fixes and improvements, it seems that the highlight of this particular update will be the redesign of the Skype program itself where it will feature a Metro-inspired design that is prominent in Microsoft’s other products, like Windows Phone and the upcoming Windows 8. Given that Microsoft now owns Skype, and with Skype expected to see integration in Microsoft’s products, we guess the redesign was imminent.

Other new features includes video messaging which is expected to be similar to MMS, where users can pre-record a video of themselves and send it to their contacts where it will be available for playback when that contact logs in. We’re not really sure how this Metro-inspired Skype will look like, but it will be interesting to see what Microsoft will come up with, so be sure to check back with us next month where hopefully we will have more news and details to share with you.
