Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 notebook

Here we are with the zenith of Lenovo’s IdeaPad Z series of notebooks – the Lenovo IdeaPad Z500. Touted to be 25% slimmer compared to standard notebooks (not too sure just which rivals of theirs did they use as a benchmark), the IdeaPad Z500 will obviously be thinner and lighter than its counterparts of the same class. Of course, most of the time, aesthetics do take a back seat over performance, but Lenovo ensures us that this will not be the case since the IdeaPad Z500 will be able to carry a third generation Core i7 processor underneath the hood.

Sporting a soft-touch exterior and backlit AccuType keyboard carefully installed within a sleek yet sturdy laptop design, alongside Windows 8 Pro as the operating system of choice. If safety of your data is of concern, then OneKey Recovery makes data backup & recovery a snap. Other specifications include a 15.6” Backlit LED HD display at 1366×768 resolution with 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, up to 1TB of hard drive space, and up to 16GB RAM, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, an integrated DVD reader/writer (optional Blu-ray Disc drive), specialized stereo speakers for extra bass with Dolby Home Theatre audio certification for immersive sound. In front, you will also find an integrated 720p HD webcam that caters for video calls.

No idea on pricing, but it should be released sometime when Windows 8 is officially out as well.

Well, what do we have here? At first glance, some folks might say that Apple’s lawyers are going to bear down on Lenovo, since the Lenovo IdeaCentre A520 All-in-One PC does seem to resemble the iMac somewhat from certain angles. Actually, I jest – this is not going to happen, and just what does the Lenovo IdeaCentre A520 pack underneath the hood? We are looking at a 23” frameless display that boasts support for 10-point multi-touch that delivers a far greater amount of accuracy when you touch it with your finger, while sporting a widely adjustable screen angle (from -5 to 90°) to cater for more comfortable use regardless of the position you are in.

Running on a 3rd generation Intel Core i7 processor, this slim 23” AIO PC will deliver Full HD (1920×1080) clarity in 16:9 widescreen goodness. It also carries the Lenovo Dynamic Brightness System that protects your eyes by automatically adjusting screen brightness depending on ambient light conditions.

You can have up to 1TB of storage space on this puppy, a maximum of 8GB RAM, a DVD drive with the option to change it to Blu-ray if your budget permits, and a whole host of connectivity options including Wi-Fi and USB 3.0. Expect it to be reasonably priced when it arrives at around the same time as Windows 8.

We all know that the world is not exactly in the best of shape economically at this point in time (environmentally as well, but that is another bone of contention), which is why Lenovo decided to tread carefully with the Lenovo IdeaPad U510 notebook that merges an extremely slim design with what they call “ultra responsive technologies”, sporting a decent battery life of up to 6 hours whenever you life the unplugged lifestyle. On the outside, you will find a sleek metal exterior design with a range of colors to choose from, tipping the scales at a usual 2.2kg (for the budget notebook segment) while measuring a surprisingly 21mm thin.

With the OneKey Recovery feature, data backup and recovery is a snap, while Anti-theft (AT) technology allows you to remotely disable your U510 just in case it gets stolen, using GPS or Wi-Fi geo-location in the process. Not only that, it can wake up from Sleep mode in slightly more than a second, which is always a good thing. This is the more affordable Ultrabook alternative, and yet packs quite a punch with up to a 3rd gen Intel Core i7 processor as well as Windows 8 as the operating system of choice. Other hardware specifications include up to 1TB of storage space, up to 8GB RAM, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI connectors, a 2-in-1 card reader, and an integrated 720p HD webcam.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 notebook

Large and bulky would be the term that I would use in describing the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 notebook, especially when you consider it tips the scales at a rather massive 2.9kg. Definitely not the thing you would lug around if you have a showfloor to cover for the entire week, but it would make for a decent desktop replacement, assuming you do very little moving about. To get to the bone of things, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 will target those who want to indulge in multimedia (video, music and games, the works), without sacrificing on performance.

Sporting a comfortable metal cool-touch cover and palm rest, the Y500 will also sport a new UltraBay interchangeable hard drive bay which can be swapped out instantly for dual graphics capability, now how about that? You will be able to rock to an Intel Core i7 processor, top end dual NVIDIA graphics processors, a choice of a DVD or Blu-Ray drive, an Intelligent Touchpad for use with the Windows 8 Metro interface, an always-on USB port that comes in handy for device recharging even when the notebook is unplugged, and of course, a massive 15.6” LED display at 1366×768 resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio.

We’re mum on pricing, but it should be released at the same time as that of Windows 8.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 notebook

You know how you were told to summarize some passages in the past at college or university during a language assignment? Well, I guess the same can be said of the Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 notebook, where it is basically the same deal as the Lenovo IdeaPad Z500, except that this comes in a smaller form factor – that is all. Instead of tipping the scales at 2.2kg as the IdeaPad Z500, this puppy is 200 grams lighter, measuring 345mm x 244m x 26mm compared to the Z500’s 375mm x 263mm x 25.4mm. Other than that, it is a carbon copy of the Z500, some might even say a Mini Me of the Z500.

To get the ball rolling, you have a 14” Backlit LED HD display at 1366×768 resolution with 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, rocking to a maximum 1TB of hard drive space, and being able to dance to the tune of 16GB RAM. Connectivity options include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and just in case the integrated DVD reader/writer is not good enough for you, you can always fork out more money and throw in the optional Blu-ray Disc drive instead. Your ears will be treated to specialized stereo speakers for extra bass with Dolby Home Theatre audio certification. Keeping in touch is a snap thanks to the built-in 720p HD webcam in front. Pricing details are unavailable, but it should arrive right after Windows 8 hits the market.
