This Incredible Hulk-inspired PC case mod is…smashing!

There are PC case mods, and then there are even more awesome PC case mods. Some might think that case modding for their PCs merely involves outfitting it with liquid cooling systems or stuffing them with LED lights. While that can be considered modding to a certain extent, this Incredible Hulk PC case mod by Derrick Johnson is indeed a sight to behold! Highlighted at Quakecon 2012, as you can see in the photo above, this case mod has been decked out in bright green neon lights, action figures of the Hulk and other Marvel superheroes while sitting on top of what appears to be “radioactive” ooze.

It is certainly one of the more unique case mods we’ve come across so far, although it seems that this is Johnson’s fifth case mod victory at Quakecon so we guess it’s no surprise that this is what he has come up with. Seeing as how high the bar has been set this year, it will be interesting to see what Johnson will come up with for Quakecon 2013. In the meantime additional photos of the case mod can be found in the source link below.

This iMac prank is hilarious but extremely cringe worthy

While there is a debate whether Mac computers are better than their PC counterparts, it cannot be denied by even the most ardent Mac fan that Mac computers in general are a lot more expensive than PCs. It can be argued that this is because its components are of higher quality, better build materials, nicer designs and etc., but at the end of the day, a PC with the same specs will probably be half the price of the Mac. That being said, we guess if you were to see someone drop an iMac down a flight of stairs, or an escalator, safe to say it will most definitely be cringe worthy which is what the prank in the video above set out to do.

Basically what the guy did was he took an iMac box filled with glass and plastic, and dropped it in front of strangers just to see what their reactions would be like. He dropped it, tossed it and even knocked it off a roof! Seeing the reactions of the public is pretty priceless as a good many of them appear to sport genuine pained expressions, so without further ado, check it out in the video above!

Toshiba U925T 12.5″ Ultrabook Convertible

With the imminent arrival of Windows 8, there is an avalanche of touchscreen laptops, but the Toshiba U925T is quite original in its design and does not use the typical “clamshell” design with a detachable keyboard.

Instead, it uses a “slide and rise” (my term) design where the display can lay completely flat on top of the keyboard, turning the U925T into a tablet. When the user needs a keyboard again, he/she can slide the display back to reveal the keyboard and rise the display in position. (more…)

HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook with IPS display

The Spectre series is undoubtedly the high-powered group of computers in HP’s line of personal laptops. The HP Spectre XT TouchSmart is the latest model designed for the upcoming Windows 8 OS. As its name indicates, the display (15″) is a touch screen with which users can perform the various gestures that Windows 8 now supports.

The first thing that popped right away is the display. It is a beautiful 15.6″, 1080p IPS display. We were able to see from a distance that it uses the IPS technology because both the colors and the view angles were quite extraordinary. (more…)

HP Envy X2 PC/tablet “transformer”, hands-on

HP is coming out with the HP Envy X2, a 11.6″ (1366×768) touch-screen slate PC that can be converted into a clamshell laptop with a simple “snap” into a keyboard dock. This is a concept that has been popularized by the ASUS Transformer Pad which combines the elegance of a tablet to the productivity of an ultra-light laptop.

We’ve played with it, and the first thing that we noticed was the rather amazing build quality and solid feel of this product. The Envy X2 is mostly made of aluminum, and both the tablet and the keyboard feel extremely rigid – almost like a solid bloc of aluminum. The connector is pretty easy to snap in place (one-handed operation), and feels very robust as well. Users can grab the screen and lift the dock+tablet combo without any problems. (more…)

Smartype keyboard ensures you never miss a word, ever again

Just what is so special about the Smartype keyboard? For starters, the Smartype keyboard will come with a long narrow display which is capable of showing off what you type as you type it, delivering an overall improved typing experience while the viewable real estate is useful to work with other tiny apps. Developers of the Smartype keyboard claim that this display will help reduce typing errors since you are able to see exactly what you type without having to move your head, and unsurprisingly, it might result in speeding up your typing prowess.

Apart from that, more ergonomic reasons include a reduction in eye and neck strain, while an increase in concentration levels should be part of the benefits since you experience less distraction when you type. No idea on whether productivity levels will increase, as this is greatly dependent on the user. The Smartype keyboard ought to cost a Benjamin thereabouts when available. This is nice and good, but what happens when you use someone else’s computer without the Smartype keyboard? Isn’t that going to reduce your productivity and speed? I guess sticking to Typing of the Dead to improve your typing skills would be a far better option, don’t you think so?
