13.3-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display already in production?

It seems that there were whispers going around that production for the rumored 13.3″ MacBook Pros have already begun, where these are no ordinary MacBook Pros since they carry a Retina Display resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. This particular bit of news came from NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim, as he mentioned to the good people over at CNET, “The supply chain indications are that it’s for a MacBook Pro 13.3 – not a MacBook Air.” The displays will be manufactured by three parties – two Korean and one Japanese, mainly Samsung and LG Display, as well as Sharp.

Shim also hinted that launch supplies for the upcoming 13.3″ Retina Display MacBook Pros will definitely be in a larger number compared to the 15″ displays which was first seen in the June released MacBook Pro, touting that the 13.3″ screen size has definitely a far higher potential to be popular compared to its larger (and elder) sibling. Will you be on the lookout for the new 13.3″ Retina Display MacBook Pro?

ITC rules that Apple did not violate Motorola’s patent, remands case back to judge

About a week ago we reported that some of Apple’s products, namely the iPhone, iPad and Macs could be banned on the 24th of August as part of an ongoing legal dispute between Apple and Motorola. As it turns out, luck really seems to be on Apple’s side as not only did the jury rule in Apple’s favor in the Apple vs Samsung lawsuit, but it seems that a Commission review of the ITC case between Apple and Motorola has determined that the Cupertino company did not violate the patent in question and basically exonerated Apple.

While Apple fans and customers might breathe a sigh of relief, it seems that this is not over yet as the ITC has handed the case back to the judge who gave the initial ruling where he will be reviewing his initial stance on the matter. Basically what this means is that while Apple might have escaped the ban on the 24th of August, there is still a chance that they might have their products banned in the future, although with the judge having to revisit the case, the clock has been reset and another ruling would probably take place in 2013. In any case we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled, so check back with us in the future for more updates.

Microsoft multitouch ePen patent applied

Patent can be considered to be the new kind of ammunition in the war between companies, and Samsung and Apple have been a pretty good example of that so far. Well, Microsoft, the software company that has just changed their logo after 25 years, wants in on the patent war too by building up its arsenal of patents, among then the multitouch ePen which is touted to be clever enough to know just what function it is supposed to dispense the user with simply through the analyzing on how you hold your multitouch ePen.

This digital pen will still enable you to write or draw on your tablet’s display just like any other stylus allows you to, although Microsoft did patent this new kind of multitouch ePen which is said to come with touch sensors integrated right into the case itself, in addition to other necessary “equipment” such as a gyroscope, compass, and accelerator amongst others.

Sony LiveAction AR features a Japanese schoolgirl

We live in a stereotypical world, and hence, it is no surprise to hear that Sony attempts to correct the deficiencies that are associated with the field of augmented reality, especially that niggling feeling of interacting with a lively albeit unrealistic 2D character. How does Sony go about addressing this particular issue? Well, we are looking at a new kind of technology known as “LiveAction AR,” which unsurprisingly, has a Japanese schoolgirl starring in it for starters. How about that for a standard issue stereotype, huh?

A demonstration of LiveAction AR showed off an augmented reality woman who stepped out of a wall poster, where she will then interact with you, the viewer. The creepy part (or some others might call it brilliant) would be this – whenever you move around, the character as well as her eyes will also follow in tow, making this the digital version of the Mona Lisa. Talk about increasing the realism factor with a pair of following eyes! Check out the video above to know more about how Sony’s LiveAction AR works in the real world.

Chrome Beta gets better mouse control for games

Look at what the cat dragged in with the latest Chrome Beta, where the team over at Google have come up with a new and improved Pointer Lock JavaScript API (a.k.a. mouse lock). To put it in plain English, this translates to gamers being able to enjoy superior, or at least, improved (for those who prefer to be less dramatic in their descriptions, of course) mouse control especially when it comes to 3D web apps and games such as first-person shooters. It will basically remove your cursor from the screen, while obtaining access to raw mouse movement data in order to let you pan the display’s view any way and direction that you wish without missing a beat. To get a better idea on how much more improved the mouse control is, why not spend some time with this particular WebGL Quake 3 map viewer and tell us what you think about it?
