Chrome OS apps list updated

Chrome OS users love these two things about their Chromebooks – the speed as well as simplicity, and when you take this week’s stable release of Chrome OS into consideration, you should have noticed the redesign effort that went into the apps list, ensuring that your apps list experience is a whole lot easier to access when it comes to navigating to your favorite apps and websites. In fact, the apps list as you can see above, has ended up being more compact, letting you access the bunch of your favorite apps without having to interrupt your browsing experience. Not only that, a search box has been thrown into the mix at the top of the apps list, allowing you to use it like an omnibox in order to search the web, specific websites, or the apps that are stashed away on your computer.

There will also be visual improvements like a redesigned Cloud Print dialog and the ability to add custom wallpaper, not to mention being able to save files directly to Google Drive, letting you access files at a later time from any compatible device, Drive on iOS or Android included. More changes made under the hood include the addition of audio support for USB and HDMI, extra sandboxing security features, amongst others.

Google to stop free accounts for Google Apps?

Do you think that Google is a generous company? After all, the Internet search giant did always enabled ordinary folks and users to have free access to Google Apps, their business-productivity product. In fact, you can have up to 10 users to own custom email addresses, calendars, contacts, Google Drive, team sites, and Google Docs in addition to being able to check out just what the Google Apps Marketplace has to offer.

Well, there is this particular rumor that I wish were not true – it seems that there are whispers going around that sometime at the end of this month, or perhaps in early September, Google will no longer offer free access for new accounts, meaning one would have to fork out a token sum even if you are running a small business. Just to be on the safe side, if you have always wondered about the viability of Google Apps in your business setup, tarry no longer. I sure hope that this is just an unsubstantiated rumor, that’s all.

Facebook reunites lost friends for kidney transplant after Facebook post

Facebook might not be doing too well on the stock exchange at the moment, but this does not mean that the social network has no impact at all in this world. In fact, one of the more heartwarming stories that we have heard concerning the power of Facebook recently is this – Hannah Craig and her childhood friend reunited over the social network, Facebook. Basically, the gist of the story is this – one of Hannah’s started to fail earlier this year, resulting in the Tampa Bay area teen to look out for a donor in order to have a transplant performed. Doctors were not too optimistic about the prognosis though, claiming that it might take up to five years before a matching liver from a donor is found, before Hannah received a seemingly random phone call from a childhood friend, Hillary Glanzer.

Hillary had lost contact with Hannah for years, but since the former saw a posting on Hannah’s cousin’s Facebook page, Hillary immediately stepped up to the plate and made her decision to donate her kidney. This surgery was performed successfully in June this year, and it brings a nice, warm fuzzy feeling to all of us who have heard of this kind deed, don’t you think so?
