Megaupload boss Kim Dotcom heads to U.S. to answer piracy charges

Kim Dotcom, the Internet mogul who is the main “star” of a US investigation which concerns online piracy and fraud charges, mentioned that he was willing to make his way to the US in order to maintain his good name and clear whatever outstanding charges there are against him – with a little bit of help from some of the brightest legal minds his money can buy, of course. Upon doing so, this would mean he would forego a pending extradition hearing in New Zealand.

Kim Dotcom’s claim to fame would be to be the founder of the Megaupload file-sharing site, where he has challenged the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation to run a fair trial, touting that he has the cojones to meet them in the court, assuming they agreed to select conditions.

Kim posted on Twitter, “We want bail, funds unfrozen for lawyers & living expenses.” Do you think Kim and his team of legal eagles will stand a chance in the court of law?

Chrome 22 developer release doesn’t support OS X Leopard

It looks like it may be time to upgrade your Mac to the latest OS, Mountain Lion(OS X 10.8), which should be here very soon after we saw the gold master developer version release yesterday. One reason to upgrade is that the latest version of Chrome(22.0.1201.0) has just been released on the developer’s page and will not support OS X 10.5 or older.

Looks like you’ll have to stick with the current version of chrome that your using and will have to forgo future updates if you aren’t willing to update your Mac. If you are interested in upgrading, you’ll have to start off by upgrading to Snow Leopard(OS X 10.6), which you can buy for $30 from an Apple store, to gain access to the Mac App store which will have Mountain Lion available for download once it has been released to the general public. Are you still running on Leopard? Do you plan on upgrading? Let us know in the comments section below.

Raspberry Pi is at the heart of this BBC Micro-inspired keyboard

Modder extraordinary Ben Heck has come up with a new project which might just interest the many people who have picked up the Raspberry Pi DIY computer. Basically, modders and next-generation engineers are able to make use of the surprisingly affordable $35 Raspberry Pi as part of the BBC Micro-inspired keyboard. According to Ben, “I got a big kick out of having the chance to tinker with a Raspberry Pi. Now I understand why everyone’s so excited about it. The possibilities are endless, and it can really help inspire kids to learn coding again.”

Ben was basically inspired to come up with this particular Raspberry Pi creation in the form of a BBC Micro-inspired keyboard, where it will feature a vintage custom enclosure, cartridge slots and an add-on experimenter’s kit. Relying on wood and hinge construction, resulting in an antique-inspired computer which will open up like an old desk whenever the keyboard is lifted up. Ben’s box construction paves the way for an on/off switch, Ethernet connectivity, video/audio composite, DC 5V input and a USB hub. C++ programming was implemented in order to have it run tests via the experimentation kit.
