People everywhere are hyping up the event on July 9th known as “Malware Monday.” The event will not be as scary as everyone is saying and the internet is not going to go out for everyone. Let me start off by explaining exactly what caused all of this. It all started when a couple of hackers released the DNS Changer virus which would redirect the browsers of infected computers and would also block the computer from downloading operating system updates or antivirus programs.

It looks like OEMs which create Ultrabook computers could be in hot soup in the future. According to reports online, the US Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple the rights to the design of the latest version of the MacBook Air. How does this affect other PC makers, you ask? Well, judging by the diagram provided (image above) you can see why – it pretty much looks like any generic Intel Ultrabook available on the market today.
There’s no telling what Apple will be doing with the power of this patent, but if it wanted to make life hell for its competitors it probably could. Apple is already going against Samsung in the smartphone market with its numerous lawsuits, I wouldn’t be surprised if the battle carries over to the portable computer sector as well.

Nifty MiniDrive gives your MacBook additional storage without being unsightly
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhile the MacBook Air is one slim laptop, it does come with a price: a limited storage capacity. For most users – this is a huge problem. And while memory can be expanded with the use of external hard disks – it does mean you have to bring around with you an additional piece of hardware. Some folks have resorted to using the SD card slot on the side of the machine – but any cards slotted in stick out halfway which is pretty unsightly and risks being knocked out accidentally. This is where the Nifty MiniDrive comes in.

White Silence is one bloody PC case
Posted in: Today's ChiliIf you’re a fan of interesting looking PC case mods, the White Silence might lend you some inspiration for your next project. From the outside it looks like a regular white PC case with random blood splats all over the place, but a look under the hood tells a different story. The inside of the case features cooling lines with blood red fluid, matching red cables and a blood bag for aesthetic purposes. Of course there are more random blood splats all over the place, but it all adds to the creepy vibe it has going on.
The specs of the PC aren’t too impressive by today’s standards (it was built a couple of years ago) but it’s still one rad looking case. Head here if you’re interested in checking out more images of this bloody spectacular case mod.

Do you use Skype every single day, whether it is for work as you operate remotely from your office, or for you to communicate with a loved one, where you are both separated by thousands of miles? Regardless, having the latest update to your software is more or less a good thing at all times, although there were instances in the past where Murphy decided to strike and go amok with the latest software update (not talking about Skype in particular). There is a new update available for Skype now, targeting Windows and Mac versions.
We will see the Mac version bumped up to 5.8, while those rocking to Windows will see their version number hit 5.10. Nothing really fresh has been thrown into the mix, although there will be generic bug fixes thrown into the mix in addition to unspecified enhancements that ensure the apps will continue to run smoothly. Have you made your respective updates already, and how do you find the experience?

Samsung was definitely on a roll during the previous quarter, having hit a whopping $5.9 billion in terms of its profit, although the South Korean conglomerate does have its fair share of struggles to handle, including Europe’s current mire of debt that has certainly dampened demand in its biggest market for TVs as well as home appliances. Samsung’s flagship Galaxy smartphones do seem that they are doing more than enough to increase its lead over bitter rivals Apple and Nokia, never mind that there is a parts shortage which could only mean one thing – it could have performed better, and there is a need for them to figure out their parts availability model with their suppliers.
According to one Samsung executive, “Europe is our biggest consumer electronics market and we may have to initiate cost cuts and product price increases should the euro fall further from the current level. Our smartphones are flying off the shelves, with some outlets reporting 40-60 percent sales growth, but that’s distorting the overall trading outlook which is more challenging due to the weak global economy and a weak euro.”
Well, there you go – at least it goes to show once again that not putting all your eggs in a single basket is always a good thing.
