Fractal Design Define XL Case can survive a shotgun blast

If you’re building a new PC and you don’t want to worry about its internal components being damaged, you might want to check out Fractal Design’s Define XL case. The folks behind the case recently posted up a video showing off the quality of their product – by putting it through a shotgun test. Using a 12-guage shotgun, they fired repeatedly into the case and filmed the whole experiment. Even after 10 shots – only a single pellet managed to make it through. Talk about heavy duty!

Most people go through their lives without being shot at (at least I hope so), so what are the odds of anybody requiring a bulletproof vest let alone a bulletproof computer case? But if solid is what you’re looking for, be sure to check out Fractal Design’s Define XL Case. Fractal Design is also running a End Mod contest where users can win a free Define XL case and watch their old computer case get destroyed. Check out the video above.

Facebook says bug is responsible for e-mail address snafu

Facebook logoRemember a week ago, when we brought you word that somehow or rather, your e-mail address was reset to the new @facebook.com mailbox, while overwriting the original address in the first place? Well, it seems that Facebook did not deny that this had happened, but confirmed it – while washing their hands clean from the responsibility at the same time. According to a Facebook official, a software bug should bear full responsibility for resetting your contacts’ e-mail addresses in a similar manner.

Do you think that Facebook’s faux paux is truly the fault of a software bug, or was it done on purpose, prompting outrage across a blanket of Facebook users at the same time? It is really hard to tell, but it would be good to give Facebook the benefit of the doubt, and to truly believe that a software bug is the culprit behind such an upheaval of emotions. Hopefully this particular realization would signal the end of such a mix up from happening ever again, don’t you think so?

iMac to receive Retina Display as well?

“He loves me, he loves me not…”, and this particular game continues going on and on as long as there are still petals left on the flower, as a young girl wistfully hopes that he actually loves her by the time she arrives at the final petal. Well, I guess you can more or less apply the same kind of heart thumping feeling at potential uncertainty concerning Apple’s iMac – will it actually come with a Retina Display or not to keep up with the rest of its brethren in the market – namely the iPad and the new MacBook Pro?

Granted, Digitimes is not exactly the epitome of accuracy and consistency when it comes to rumors, but this latest rumor bandied about does seem to have some merit, with Digitimes leaning on “upstream supply chain sources” that a revamped version of the iMac desktop will enter production later this July, hopefully in time for an October release launch. Not only that, Digitimes claims that Apple intends to put Retina Display across its entire product line, so does this mean the latest up and coming iMac will have a Retina Display? As with all rumors (and wounds), time and tide will need to pass us by first before we pat ourselves on the back in hindsight or otherwise.

Google Chrome delivers blank pages

Chrome browser on Cr-48It seems that there is a bunch of folks out there who are rocking to the latest version of Google Chrome on Windows 7 on the computer, and for a period of time, they were redirected to a blank page for approximately 50% of the time. This has happened whenever you type keywords into the URK bar of the Chrome web browser, and it seems that this issue has already appeared as an active threat on the Chrome Product Forum. It does not seem to discriminate against Mac or PC users – parties on both platforms are affected.

No idea on what the exact problem is that has resulted in this particular situation, but we do know that a handful of Google Chrome have already reported that searches from the omnibox/address bar will send you to Timbuktu – that is, nowhere geographically. Hopefully folks from Timbuktu won’t end up stoning me or something. Is there a way to fix it? Apparently, as all you need to do is enter the Settings menu, pick “Manage Search Engines”, throw in a spanking new search engine with the URL http://www.google.com/search?q=%s, although you can call it anything, and make it your default.
