Yahoo Mail Accounts Breached Again

Yahoo Mail Accounts Breached Again I don’t think that companies see themselves getting hacked at least once as a badge of honor. No sir, it is actually a testament that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and in the case of Yahoo Mail which has just been breached recently (the number of accounts breached were not revealed) after this news came to light today, one ought to wonder whether it is time to settle for different methods of communication if security is of the utmost importance. Those who were affected users have already been notified by Yahoo, where they claim that they are doing all in their power to track down those behind this hack, and to re-secure breached accounts.

    Intel AppUp Bids Adieu

Intel AppUp Bids AdieuIntel has decided to close the doors to AppUp, and here is what they had to say about the situation. “At Intel, we’re always thinking about the future, which often means making changes today. That’s why, on March 11th, 2014, Intel AppUp center will come to a close as we focus on developing new and exciting PC innovations that will continue to shape your world. As excited as we are about the future projects, we know AppUp is important to you. For questions about AppUp‘s closure, please visit our updated FAQ section with links to guided support to answer your questions.” You will be able to drop by the FAQ page if you have any further questions or want to know more about the situation. First launched in 2010, the AppUp store was meant to be a Windows app superstore to help out the likes of Ultrabooks, and manufacturers can choose to pre-install it in Atom-powered PCs. Unfortunately, it looks like there isn’t enough momentum to carry AppUp through the years, which has led to such a situation.

Facebook Looks At Blu-Ray Discs As Data Storage System Solution

facebook_logoWhen one talks about Blu-ray discs, most of the time we would figure out that these are the medium of choice for Full HD movies in your living room, as well as the place where PS3 games are stored. However, it seems that Blu-ray discs could have a potentially far reaching influence rather than being limited to mere movies and video games. Social network giant Facebook has announced that they are venturing into building a prototype for a new data storage system which will make use of 10,000 Blu-ray discs, which are capable of stashing up to one petabyte of data, alongside the very real possibility of increasing that amount of space up to five times the original intended figure.

Angry Birds Website Hacked, Known As Spying Birds Instead

spying-birdsIt seems that birds are not the only ones who get angry – hackers too, have emotions. They are human after all, and a bunch of hackers have defaced the official Angry Birds website earlier today, citing them as Spying Birds with the NSA logo located right smack on the forehead of the red bird. This defacement of the website came about after reports that both of the U.S. and U.K. intelligence agencies have been gathering user information from the Angry Birds game as well as other popular mobile apps. Rovio, however, has stepped forward to claim that they have not allowed the NSA to spy on Angry Bird gamers.

Microsoft’s OneDrive Name Enters Into Another Legal Dispute

onedriveIt was just a couple of days ago that we brought you word of Microsoft announcing a rebranding of their SkyDrive service, where it is now known as the OneDrive brand. The reason behind this rebranding exercise is not because the company has too much money and time on their hands that they do not know what to do with it, but rather, after Microsoft went into a dispute with British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB, which trades as ‘Sky’), where the latter claimed that Microsoft’s SkyDrive brand would have infringed upon its own trademark. However, the OneDrive brand has opened the door to another dispute, as Thomas Medard Frederiksen, chief operating officer of One.com, claims that his company is now “consulting trademark experts” after the rebranding exercise, citing that OneDrive happens to share a moniker which is too close for One.com’s very own cloud service.

UK Government Considering Dropping Microsoft Office (Again)

office-freeLet’s face it – Microsoft Office can get pretty expensive especially if you’re in the enterprise sector where you will need multiple copies/licenses of the productivity suite if you wish to conduct your business. Alternatively you could always turn to open source options, which is what the UK government is considering doing again. It seems that once again, the UK government is considering ditching Microsoft Office in favor of an open source alternative. By doing so, they believe that they will be able to save millions of pounds. (more…)
