Swift-speare Creates Sonnets That Actually Make Sense

machine-sonnetArtificial intelligence has certainly improved by leaps and bounds over the years, where machine learning has been implemented to help out humanity including the possibility of discovering a potential cure for HIV. It looks like there are other avenues to take advantage of machine learning such as the realm of arts. MIT PhD student J. Nathan Matias has decided to take the popular machine-learning Android app known as Swiftkey to have it play with several of the Bard’s (that’s Shakespeare for you) more famous words, resulting in a bunch of sonnets that might just melt the heart of the party you’re trying to impress.

Gigabyte Brix Mini Desktop Packs Quite A Bite

gigabyte-brixYou know what they say about some dogs – their bark is worse than their bite. As for the humble computer, there are times when you might look at a small computer chassis and wonder whether anything good will be able to come out of it. Just like how one ought not to judge a book by its cover, so too, would it be in the best interest of folks not to take a look at the Gigabyte Brix mini desktop and relegate it to the realms of being just another spreadsheet cruncher or word processing machine. The Gigabyte Brix mini desktop is no larger than a small stack of CD cases, but it packs quite a punch as we take a look at its hardware configuration right after the jump.

Chrome + LEGO: Unleash Your Imagination!

If there is one thing about LEGO bricks, it is this – they are virtually able to be anything, limited only by your imagination as well as the number of pieces available. I suppose this is somewhat akin to programming as well, where you have certain functions available, and with the right technical know how, you too, would be able to program some of the other functions that you would like to use. This is the basis for Build with Chrome, which happens to be a collaboration between Chrome and the LEGO Group that relied on WebGL, a 3D graphics technology, to be brought to life.

Apple Patents Solar Powered MacBook With Dual Displays

14.01.28-RearSolar powered devices are an interesting concept, although given the technology these days, especially towards more commercial products, it feels more like a novelty feature rather than a functional one. That being said we expect that there will come a day when solar powered charging can be brought to consumer products that will be just as efficient as the solar farms out there, but in the meantime it seems that Apple has toyed around with such an idea for its MacBook series of laptops. In a recent patent granted to Apple, it hints at a MacBook system in which a two-sided glass laptop display will be used.

While the display inside the laptop will be used normally, the outside display is expected to house photovoltaic cells used for solar charging, and at the same time act as a secondary display that houses sensors that can be used for touch input as well. In a way this sounds like hybrid Windows 8 devices we’ve seen hit the market, with the main difference being that Apple’s system will feature solar powered charging capabilities. It sounds like a nifty idea although we’re not sure if Apple will even implement such a system. After all most Windows 8 hybrid devices tend to be rather thick and with Apple placing such a huge emphasis on making devices light and thin, we’re not sure if that is something they’d sacrifice just for the added features, but what do you guys think?

OS X 10.10 Could Feature A Flatter Design

MacBook-Pro-with-OS-X-Mavericks-640x393While iOS 7 and OS X will not be merging anytime soon, it seems that at least in terms of visuals, there will be some kind of unification. According to a report from 9to5Mac, they claim that the upcoming OS X 10.10, which has been given the codename “Syrah”, will take some design cues from iOS 7 and feature a flatter look compared to OS X Mavericks. However it should be noted that the visual changes will not be as dramatic as compared to iOS 6 to iOS 7, presumably because they don’t want their users to be completely thrown off by the new look which was one of the problems that Microsoft faced when they introduced Windows 8 to new users upgrading from older versions of Windows.

It is unclear as to what else we might expect from OS X 10.10 or when we can look forward to it being announced and released, but assuming Apple is keeping to an annual release cycle, chances are we might see it towards the later part of 2014. The folks at MacRumors have also reported seeing low levels of activity from devices running on OS X 10.10, although that is unsurprising given that Apple is probably working on it already and it could be in its early development stages. In any case what do you guys think? Would you be interested in a flatter OS X?

toshiba-portege-z10t-06Promoted story: this post is brought to you by Toshiba

When new form-factors are created, they attract curiosity, wonder or even skepticism. Sometime, it can be hard to relate to something new and when Toshiba asked us what kind of users we thought could benefit from their Portégé Detachable Ultrabook design in particular (official product page), but also from computers like it in general.
