HyperJuice Battery Extends MacBook Run Time By Another 53 Hours

HyperJuice Battery Extends MacBook Run Time By Another 53 HoursWhen it comes to geeks and their computers as well as mobile devices and personal electronics, I guess there is just one way of putting it – you can never have enough power ports or battery life! Having said that, working with a notebook is cool, especially when you are not limited to the confines of an office. The thing is, notebooks do run on battery power, and battery power will run out eventually. What happens when you are in a situation that requires you to use your MacBook, but there is no power outlet in sight, and it is fast running out of juice? This is where the HyperJuice Battery comes in handy.

Skype For iOS Updated, Supports Push Notifications Now

Skype For iOS Updated, Supports Push Notifications NowThere is nothing quite like having a new update for existing software to bring it up to speed with the rest of the market. Skype has proven to be quite the useful tool when it comes to communicating with family and friends, especially those who are living thousands of miles away from you, and yet are able to carry out a video conversation with ease. I know that Apple has their own FaceTime, but with Skype, it is device agnostic, which gives it a huge plus in our books. Skype for iOS version 4.17 has just been released, and this latest version comes with support for push notifications.

Windows XP Still Runs On 95% Of ATM Machines

Windows XP Still Runs On 95% Of ATM MachinesWhen April 8 comes around, it seems that many ATM machines around the world would run into a particular problem, so much so that it might be a whole lot more difficult to handle compared to the relatively peaceful Y2K experience that we had 14 years ago. After all, most of the ATM machines worldwide still run on Windows XP, the operating system from Microsoft that will no longer be supported by Microsoft themselves from that date onward. BusinessWeek claims that 95% of active ATMs in the world will be powered by Windows XP, and when there is no more support from Microsoft, it would most probably mean that your ATM machine is going to be vulnerable to external hacks and the like.

Google Develops Fitness API For Android

Google Develops Fitness API For AndroidWearable tech devices are the next big thing in the market, or so it seems, but it did seem for a while as though wearing something like Google Glass is going to bring you a whole lot more grief than it is worth. There are plenty of smart wearables, including smart watches, smart glasses and head-up displays, smart headphones, smart homes and smart clothes – the list just goes on and on. Most, if not all, of these devices will include low-power sensors which will be able to obtain information about your health, your activities, as well as the things you see. Android 4.4 KitKat will support a bunch of new sensors that will enable it to detect and count steps, and these sensors are implemented in hardware which can be available only on the Nexus 5 at the moment. Right now, Google is working on a Fitness API for Android that will enable applications to view and edit fitness data.

NSA ‘Collected 200 Million Texts’ Daily

NSA Collected 200 Million Texts DailyOne of the more unpopular government bodies within the US would surely be the US National Security Agency, or the NSA for short, where they have allegedly collected and stored nearly 200 million text messages in a single day worldwide, at least according to a UK media report. This is a stunning figure to say the least, and it is definitely a whole lot of information to sift through. I simply cannot imagine the workers over at the NSA who will need to comb for threats by going through so much information – it sounds like a nigh impossible task right from the get go.

Google Now Cards Make Their Way To Chrome For Desktop

Google Now Cards Make Their Way To Chrome For Desktop

Most Android users will be familiar with Google Now, the feature that displays “cards” of information, be it the weather, your next flight, an upcoming appointment or the time the ride back home will take depending on the day’s traffic. Its a pretty handy way of staying up to date with relevant information and now you won’t have to whip out your Android smartphone every time you need to catch up. The latest Chrome Canary build for Windows and Mac brings Google Now cards to your desktop.

Users will need to be signed into Chrome in order to see Now cards on the desktop computer. Some cards may be based on the location of the device, and are likely to display information such as sports scores, weather and event reminders. On Windows, the cards are displayed using Chrome’s notification interface in the system tray and on Mac, in the menu bar up top. Clicking the bell icon will reveal them. Users will need to enable the feature manually by going to chrome://flags/#enable-google-now in order to get cards delivered on desktop. Simply switch “Default” to “Enabled” and click on “Relaunch Now.” You’ll be good to go. Keep in mind that the Canary build may feature bugs as its not quite ready for public consumption, so keep an open mind when you encounter said bugs.

Facebook Wants To Compete With Google, Revamps Ads

Facebook Wants To Compete With Google, Revamps AdsThere is one very big question that one would ask, “How does one monetize Facebook to the maximum?” Well, in June last year, Facebook rolled out a tracking pixel, which is a snippet of code that enables advertisers to keep track of customers who drop by their websites from Facebook ads. It seemed to have benefited some of the smaller industries that are in the market, which is a good thing. It offers consumers yet another option when it comes to the world of online advertising, and the tracking pixel happens to be one of the changes that Facebook has done when it comes to its advertising tools.
