Facebook Picks Up Branch And Potluck

Facebook Picks Up Branch And PotluckFacebook is a company that has plenty of money, that is for sure, and what do you do with such a huge amount of dough sitting in the bank? Why, it is about time to go shopping, of course. Larger companies might find it difficult to kick off a brand new technology, but rather, acquire companies with the technology that they already want. Having said that, the folks over at Facebook have picked up Branch Media, which are the ones behind the Branch and Potluck online conversation-sharing software packages.

New Mac Pro Begins Shipping In Europe

New Mac Pro Begins Shipping In EuropeBack in 2013, Apple fans living in Europe would be hard pressed to get their hands on the Apple Mac Pro computer due to EU regulations that forced Apple to stop selling their computer. The reason behind this is because Apple had apparently breached some rules regarding the fan system  and electrical ports of their Mac Pros, whereby the rules stated that it had to have extra shielding. We’re not sure why Apple never bothered to address that issue, but it is possible that the company knew that they would have a new Mac Pro available by the end of the year which is why they might not have bothered with its older model. Either way the good news is that Apple’s new Mac Pro complies with the EU regulations and has gone up for sale in several regions, with countries such as France reporting that they are seeing shipping estimates as early as mid-January.

The Mac Pro was released in the US and some other countries back in December of 2013. However either due to the underestimation of demand or due to production issues, Apple started to see supply constraints for its latest Mac Pro, with customers who did not place their orders in a timely manner seeing an estimated shipping date for sometime in February of 2014, a wait of around two months. It was even said that the computer would not be available in-store due to supply constraints, and that if you want to pick it up in-store, you might have to wait until March or April.

    Dropbox Dismisses “Hacked” Claims

Dropbox Dismisses “Hacked” ClaimsWith a spate of hacking that had gone on in recent memory, here we are with word from Dropbox that the issues they faced recently were not attributed to any hacking incident, but rather, because of “routine internal maintenance.” One of the main issues involved photos – Dropbox had disabled photo sharing as it also turned off a “Photos” tab on dropbox.com. Of course, photos could still be checked out via the desktop client as well as the “Files” tab on dropbox.com. The fact that Dropbox’s site was not hacked should come across as a relief to most folks, don’t you think so?

ZOTAC ZBOX 01520 Sports A Special Orb Design, Runs On Haswell Platform

ZOTAC ZBOX 01520 Sports A Special Orb Design, Runs On Haswell PlatformNot all computers are created equal, that is for sure. The thing is, we are more often than not familiar with a rectangular or square shaped PC chassis, although over the years, the designs of these rectangles and boxes have been refined, looking sleeker than ever before, while others will boast of a transparent display that lets you see what is going on within. With the ZBOX 01520 from ZOTAC, you know you are in for a treat since this is a special PC case that comes in the shape of an orb.

I suppose some other folks would describe the ZBOX 01520 to resemble that of the Google Nexus Q which did not really manage to live up to expectations, and had a really short shelf life actually. The thing is, this is no successor to the Google Nexus Q, but rather, it has all the innards of a standard issue computer to help you crunch figures as well as churn out reports on a word processor. Underneath the rounded chassis, the ZOTAC ZBOX 01520 will run on an Intel Core i3-4010U Haswell processor with Intel HD 4400 graphics, carry a quartet of USB 3.0 ports, has three USB 2.0 ports, sport 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, DisplayPort, and an SD memory card reader. There is no word on pricing or availability as at press time though.

Mac Sales Experience Increase Last Quarter While PC Sales Take A Dip

Mac Sales Experience Increase Last Quarter While PC Sales Take A DipAs most of you guys know, Apple’s Mac computers don’t quite have the same market share as their Windows competitors. There are many reasons for it, such as Windows computers being more affordable, more familiar, and also having more software available for it that is used by professionals around the world. However Apple’s Mac computers are slowly gaining traction, thanks to a research by Gartner where it was found that Apple’s Mac computer sales have actually increased by 28.5% in the last quarter, while PC sales actually found themselves going down and have actually shrunk by 7.5%!

Of course given the PC’s market share and the Mac’s market share, the PC is still very much in the lead, although it does look like Apple is playing catchup, albeit slowly. It was found that as far as PC vendors were concerned, companies such as Toshiba and HP saw themselves making a loss of 13.9% and 10.3% respectively, while companies such as Dell and Lenovo found their sales going up a modest 7.4% and 3.5% respectively. Some are blaming tablets as one of the reasons that PC sales have gone down. With tablets being generally cheaper and portable, those buying PCs for simple use, such as watching movies and surfing the web, might turn to a tablet instead.

There’s no telling if Apple’s Mac computers will be able to continue this momentum. It is possible that the surge in sales could be attributed to the holiday season, which was admittedly true as far as tablets were concerned.
