Flickr Introduces Web Embeds

Flickr Introduces Web EmbedsFlickr has the strong belief that taking, sharing and discovering photos is a daily habit for humans, and this means that they will not rest on their laurels at all. Flickr has just announced that they will be introducing a new web embedding feature, making life a whole lot easier to add full-bleed Flickr photos and videos into your personal websites, stories, and blogs. Just how does all of this affect you, and will it be for the better or for the worse? First of all, when embedded, your photos and videos will be shown with their full title as well as your Flickr name accompanying it. Since attribution is extremely important to Flickr, it will embed such details to itself automatically.

Apart from that, Flickr will also track of views of embedded photos and videos from external sites in Flickr stats, giving you a better sense on just how popular your photos are in reality. Not only that, Flickr has respect for your copyrights and privacy, where it will be available only for publicly shared photos, and private photos will still remain private, accessible only to those whom you have authorized to share with. Last but not least, Flickr Web Embeds are also contextual and interactive, giving you a magnificent full-screen viewing experience for the photos on your site, and they promise never to compress or resize your images. Google’s Christmas Easter Eggs Turns Mobile Device Into Karaoke Machine

Google’s Christmas Easter Eggs Turns Mobile Device Into Karaoke MachineGoogle has always had a funny or rather, cheeky side to them when it comes to Easter Eggs, and over the years, they have had their fair share of fun releases. This Christmas season, Google intends to expand their Easter Egg collection by transforming your mobile devices into karaoke machines. It does not matter whether you are standing on the Android or iOS divide, all you need to do is to type “Let’s go caroling” into your phone or tablet’s Google Search app, and you will be able to select from five famous carols.

Regardless of which carol you choose, each of them will come with corresponding music and lyrics. All you need to do then is to press play, and sing along to “O Christmas Tree” without having to suffer the embarrassment of forgetting any of the lyrics. Just in case you are in a situation where it is extremely noisy and you are unable to hear the sound from your device’s speakers, just follow the red bouncing ball that follows the words, and you’re good to go, although we have received reports that it does lag at times on the way to the beginning of the next line. What other kinds of Easter Eggs from Google is the most memorable one for you?

Leaked Voice-Controlled Personal Assistant Video Not Made By Yahoo

Leaked Voice Controlled Personal Assistant Video Not Made By YahooEarlier today, we brought you word that there was a leaked video which showed off the possibility of Yahoo’s plans for a voice-controlled personal assistant. Well, this particular rumor has more than meets the eye to it, as sources that are close to Yahoo has shared with The Verge that the app shown off in the leaked video itself was not developed by Yahoo.

Yup, did you hear the pin drop? While the leaked video did show off a Yahoo-branded personal assistant app that ran on a smartphone with Android as the mobile operating system of choice, the person, or persons, behind this video is not under Yahoo’s payroll. Of course, this does not mean that we are writing off the possibility of a voice-controlled personal assistant from Yahoo in the long run, especially not after they have purchased SkyPhrase, a company that has its specialty in natural language recognition. In a nutshell, today’s leaked video would prove inconclusive to the big picture, and we do hope that time will tell eventually. Do you think that Yahoo’s foray into the world of Google Now and Apple’s Siri would allow them to be a major player, or will they be too far behind the game already to make any kind of significant impact?

Google Music To Receive Upload Feature

Google Music To Receive Upload FeatureAt this point in time, should you wish to upload your digital songs over to Google Play Music, it is not quite as straightforward a process as “drag and drop”. First of all, you will need to download Music Manager, which is an application that will hook itself into your computer’s hard drive, allowing you to transfer selected audio files over to Google’s storage cloud space. Of course, there will always be moments when you do not wish to download and add on another software to your computer simply because you are running out of space, or are sick and tired of managing so many software already, so what are you to do then?

The unofficial Google system blog has come up with some potentially good news. Down the road, there is a very real possibility of you uploading songs straight from the browser, now how about that? This was speculated after gleaning the source code over in Google Play Music, where it does point to such through a dialog description text which reads, “Drag songs or folders here to add music to your library. Or, if you prefer, select from your computer.” It remains to be seen whether Google will take the actual step of implementing browser uploads for its Music service, but the line of code surely points out that Google might be toying with this idea.

Missed Safari Update Could Signal End Of OS X Snow Leopard Support

Missed Safari Update Could Signal End Of OS X Snow Leopard SupportOver the past few years, Apple has released new versions of its OS X software, with the latest being OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Prior to that we had Mountain Lion, Lion, and Snow Leopard which was released back in 2009, a good four years ago, and it would seem as though Apple’s support for the four year old operating system could be coming to an end. While Apple has not formally announced anything, it was speculated that this could be the case in a recent Safari update which included updates for OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, but not Snow Leopard. As it stands Safari 5.1.10 is the most-current update for Snow Leopard and was last updated back in September.

Speaking in an interview, Andrew Storms, the director of DevOps at CloudPassage, “Let’s face it, Apple doesn’t go out of their way to ensure users are aware when products are going end of life […] They live by the motto that users will just take all updates all the time as soon as they become available. Or users who are left in the dust will just go to the store and buy a new device.” In any case the browser is still usable, it just probably will not sport the same features or bug fixes that might have been included in later updates, but with OS X Mavericks being a free upgrade, those with older but compatible hardware should upgrade lest they don’t want to be left out of the loop.

Researchers Discover Method To Hack The MacBook’s iSight Camera

Researchers Discover Method To Hack The MacBooks iSight CameraOne of the ways we would be able to tell that our webcams are active, regardless whether used as a microphone or as a webcam, would be a light on the device that basically lets us know that it is on. Unfortunately it would seem as though there are ways to go around disabling that, as researchers from the John Hopkins University have shared in which they demonstrated how hackers are able to remotely control MacBook iSight cameras without alerting the user, namely due to their ability to disable the LED indicator light.

According to the report, “We describe how to disable the LED on a class of Apple internal iSight webcams used in some versions of MacBook laptops and iMac desktops […] This enables video to be captured without any visual indication to the user and can be accomplished entirely in user space by an unprivileged (non- root) application.” This is accomplished by reprogramming the camera’s micro-controller, from which they were able to turn on the webcam separately from the light.

The semi-good news is that the hack affects older MacBook computers up to 2008’s models, include the iMac G5, so if you’re a new owner of a MacBook Air/Pro or iMac, you can rest easy, but if you want to be safe, you could always place a tape over the iSight camera when not in use.

This PC Case Mod Is A Work Of Art

This PC Case Mod Is A Work Of ArtWhen it comes to modding our PCs, for the most part the average modder would probably toss in a couple of extra LED lights, a couple more fans for extra cooling, or for the slightly more serious modder, perhaps a liquid cooling system as well. However we have in the past seen some more hardcore mods in which the end result looks more like a piece of art, rather than an actual computer, and it is safe to say that we can add Japanese designer, Hiroto Ikeuchi’s piece to that list. Upon a cursory glance you could be forgiven for not being able to tell that the masterpiece pictured above is in fact a complete PC setup, with a keyboard, monitor, CPU tower, a desk lamp, and even a webcam, all of which are camouflaged under a plethora of army miniatures.

Ikeuchi actually spent a good part of 2012 building this mod and was reportedly inspired by the likes of Gundam and Macross. The attention to detail here is astounding as it would seem that every single part of the mod is covered, with the keyboard even undergoing a more rugged and military look to help it blend in with the rest of the setup. Also if you’re wondering where is the mouse, well it’s right in front of you, only except that it has been disguised to look like a tank, along with a handful of USB flash drives which have also been disguised to resemble military objects. At the moment Ikeuchi’s masterpiece is only display at the Ars Electronica Center in Austria, with Ikeuchi is already planning his next piece.

New Apple Mac Pro 2013 Available From Tomorrow

New Apple Mac Pro 2013 Available From Tomorrow

It has been a long time since the Mac Pro last received a major refresh, almost three years. Apple CEO Tim Cook first teased the revamped Mac Pro late last year, which cleared up doubts about the company actually axing the lineup altogether. Back at the WWDC 2013, Apple offered a little look into what it was working on, this is perhaps the most substantial update that the Mac Pro has ever received and fans of this lineup have anxiously been waiting for its release. It has finally been announced that the new Apple Mac Pro 2013 is going to be available for purchase from tomorrow, December 19th, 2013.

You will immediately notice the all new design, which was actually the subject of some hilarious illustrations. Don’t be fooled by its small size though, under the hood, the new Mac Pro touts the latest Intel Xeon processors, dual workstation class GPUs or graphics processing units, PCIe based flash storage and super fast ECC memory. The base 3.7GHZ quadcore Xeon E5 model with dual AMD FirePro D300 GPUs, 12GB memory and 256GB flash storage costs $2,999 whereas the 3.5GHz 6-core Xeon E5 model with dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs, 16GB memory and 256GB flash storage costs $3,999. Customers have configure-to-order options, pricing for those models depends upon how much they’re willing to splurge. The new Apple Mac Pro 2013 goes on sale tomorrow through the company’s brick and mortar stores, authorized resellers and its online store.
