YouTube App Teardown Points To Possible Music Pass Service

YouTube App Teardown Points To Possible Music Pass ServiceFor an app to remain the same without receiving any updates or upgrades at all from the developer does not bode well for its future – in fact, it would mean the app would have a relatively short shelf life since competitors would have far outstripped it in terms of progress in the long run. Having said that, popular mobile app YouTube is in line for yet another update, where a recent APK teardown points (APK stands for Application Package File, and is a file format for the Android ecosystem) to the very real possibility of a Music Pass service.

This Music Pass service is said to be a streaming music service that will also be accompanied by offline video playback, where the latter feature would definitely be more than welcome for most mobile users. Snippets in the code teardown revealed the future “Music Pass” feature, where it references both background music playback in addition to having “no ads on millions of songs”. As for offline video, it does seem as though one is able to save their videos for offline viewing later in either low-quality (360p) or high-quality (720p). It remains to be seen just when will these features finally make their way to the masses.

Google Chrome Receives ‘OK, Google’ Voice Search Extension

If you’ve seen Motorola’s “Lazy Phone” ads for its Moto X, you’ll know just how silly our current “dumb” phones can be considering how much we have to interact with them with our hands in order to get anything out of them. The purpose of the commercial was to show how the Moto X has the ability to always listen to the user, making it possible to interact with it hands-free. If you’ve been envious of those with a Moto X, you won’t have to any more as Google has brought its hands-free voice control features to Google Chrome. (more…)

Microsoft’s New Scroogled Campaign Targets Chromebooks

It’s no secret that Microsoft and Google don’t particularly like each other, especially when Microsoft launched their Scroogled campaign whereby they poke fun at a number of Google products. This ranges from Gmail, to Google Docs, to Chrome, and the latest being Google’s Chromebooks which are essentially laptops running Chrome OS instead of your more typical Windows. In the latest Scroogled campaign, Microsoft has hired Rick Harrison and Richard “The Old Man” Harrison of reality TV show fame, Pawn Stars.

The ad basically shows a young lady coming into their shop trying to pawn off a Chromebook so she can go to Hollywood, but unfortunately Rick turns her down laughing, stating that without an internet connection, the Google Chromebook is essentially a brick. He goes on to slag other aspects of Google, saying that by using Chromebooks, it allows Google to spy on you and use your data for more targeted advertising. Granted a good deal of Chrome OS’s functionality requires internet connectivity, but lately there has been support for offline use, especially for those looking for productivity such as Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, and etc.

In any case it certainly looks like Microsoft is stepping up their Scroogled campaign and if you have a few minutes to spare, perhaps this is a vide you’ll want to watch, just for some laughs.

OneNote App For Windows 8.1 Gets New Features

OneNote App For Windows 8.1 Gets New Features

Microsoft today rolled out a major update of its OneNote app for Windows. The updated app comes with a host of new features, improvements have particularly been made to the app’s ability to capture, find and display notes. Using Windows 8.1 Share Charm, users can easily capture notes, they can now also scan objects with the camera and search them and the app now displays recent notes with page previews.

Taking notes of something on the device’s screen is now easier than ever before. Users simply have to capture what’s on the screen and send it to the updated OneNote app through the Windows 8.1 Share Charm. The Camera Scan feature lets users take pictures of documents and whiteboards in the app. The pictures are automatically cropped, rotated, straightened, sharpened and even the shadows are removed to make them look like a document that was scanned. Using OCR or optical character recognition, the new OneNote app can now search text in an image which means that its easy to search for images of documents stored in the app. The app will also display recent notes taken across all of your devices, including those on other platforms like iOS and Android. Instead of the page title, previews will now be shown so that users can easily get a glimpse of text, images and even ink content without actually having to open the note. The updated OneNote app is love now and available as a free download from the Windows App Store.

Lenovo Flex 10 Announced As Their 10 Inch Version Of The Flex 14, 15

Lenovo released its Flex 14 and Flex 15 just a few months ago, which is the company’s ultrabook that makes it possible to extend its display up to 300 degrees around its base. We generally liked the Flex 14, but we found there to be a number of issues, such as its weight and its limited use as it can only be an ultrabook or an LCD stand. If you had your eye on the Flex 14 or Flex 15, but wish it would come in a smaller package, Lenovo has answered your prayers as the company is announcing its Flex 10.  (more…)
