Several Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro Owners Complain About Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues

Several Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro Owners Complain About Wi Fi Connectivity Issues

Apple updated its Retina MacBook Pro lineup recently, the biggest change is the adoption of Intel’s Haswell processors, while a number of nominal changes have been made as well. Though it appears that owners of both 13 inch and 15 inch models of the late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro are facing issues with Wi-Fi connectivity. There’s a thread on Apple’s official support forums filled with such complaints, where customers find Wi-Fi connectivity be inconsistent as the connection drops unexpected. Some even complain of fluctuation in speeds.

It is unclear what’s causing this issue, Apple is yet to inform us that its looking into this, but its likely that the issue might be due to a software glitch. Issues such as this are often easily fixed through a firmware update. Only recently Apple released a firmware update for the new Retina MacBook Pro models fixing various keyboard and trackpad related issues that many customers were facing. Some customers are making use of a temporary fix mentioned in the comments, turning Wi-Fi off and back on again fixes the issue. Though the fix isn’t permanent, its comes up again when the laptop is woken up from sleep mode. On the official forums, some customers are also complaining about the laptop being unresponsive after its woken up from sleep.

London To Receive Own Domain Name Next Year

London To Receive Own Domain Name Next Year The thriving city of London is truly a potpourri and melting pot of people and culture, and things look set to move forward in the right direction all the more in 2014 as London prides itself in being the first city in the world to offer its very own domain name from next year onward. This means businesses, individuals as well as organizations would be in the running for the application of web addresses that come with the .london suffix. I do wonder whether there will be folks who will perform some sort of cyber squatting on the more popular domain names.

All of this is made possible as London was awarded with the right to its own top level domain (TLD) name by ICANN, which happens to be an organization which is based in the US that oversees the internet. Among the numerous businesses (said to number in the tens of thousands) which have already expressed an interest would be Selfridges and Carnaby Street. London mayor Boris Johnson said, “Adopting the .london suffix will enable organisations to more closely associate themselves with our great city’s powerful global brand. This is also an excellent opportunity to expand London’s digital presence, which in turn is set to generate funds to invest back into the city.”

Microsoft Files For Quiet Time Patent Application

Microsoft Files For Quiet Time Patent ApplicationWe have seen an earlier patent application by Microsoft that had something to do with a skin sensing bezel on a potential tablet down the road, and here we are with yet another patent application by the software giant, where it could be used to help prevent a teenager’s phone from being able to make an outgoing phone call while one is driving, or to prevent audio from emanating from a phone’s speakers while one is within a movie theater. The whole idea of this patent does sound as though it would come in handy not only for teenagers, but for adults as well. After all, how many times have you seen and heard an adult’s phone ringing while one is at the movies? This patent is called “Quiet Time” for obvious reasons.

The patent application does come with its fair share of diagrams that does a bit of explaining. For instance, a block could be placed on a phone depending on the time period, and Quiet Time could also come in handy at places of worship, at the library , or at venues of business that would need its fair amount of peace and quiet. What do you say to Quiet Time, parents ? Yay or nay?

ASRock H81 Pro BTC & H61 Pro BTC For Bitcoin Mining

ASRock H81 Pro BTC & H61 Pro BTC For Bitcoin Mining The Bitcoin phenomenon does not look as though it is about to slow down in the immediate future, but rather, it has more or less grown from strength to strength. For instance, it was recently named as actual legal tender in the country of Germany, now how about that? I suppose anything that offers a certain amount of reward with the least level of effort or investment is always going to be popular as folks look for shortcuts (some call it efficiency) in life. Perhaps it is the fact that just about anyone is able to “make” new Bitcoins simply by having computers “mine” new ones has made this mode of currency so popular, and with the processing power of PCs increasing exponentially with each new generation of processors, these factors have really made Bitcoins explode. ASRock of Taiwan has come up with a couple of new motherboards which they touted are able to help with Bitcoin mining, as the motherboards were specially designed in such a direction.

Known as the H81 Pro BTC and H61 Pro BTC models, they allow folks to build their own desktop PCs which are able to support up to half a dozen graphics cards. Both boards will also be equipped with a pair of additional 4-pin power connectors compared to a standard issue motherboard. ASRock mentioned, “The abundant onboard PCIe slots guarantee fast GPU mining, while the additional power connectors provide advanced system stability while mining.” No pricing or availability dates have been announced for either motherboard as at press time. Google Offers High Resolution Map That Depicts Global Deforestation

Google Offers High Resolution Map That Depicts Global DeforestationGoogle has a heart for the environment by working alongside a bunch of researchers from the University of Maryland, NASA and the USGS. This collaborative effort would see the first high-resolution map of global deforestation being brought to life with the use of their very own Google Earth Engine. It is an immense effort, especially when you consider how this particular project was developed using more than a decade’s worth of Landsat images which showcases global land use changes in a manner where the public, NGOs and governments worldwide are able to learn more concerning various forestry practices, and along the way, will hopefully do its bit to reduce unwanted deforestation.

Lead author Matthew Hansen, Professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Maryland, said, “People will use this data in ways we can’t even imagine today.” Do you think that this particular tool will allow folks to be more aware on the amount of deforestation that is happening in the world, that their consciousness will be pricked to do something about it? This tool actually analyzed a whopping 654,178 Landsat images, and thanks to the massive gains made in CPU technology that such a high-resolution map (that can be scaled down to 30 meters to boot) was able to come to fruition.
