Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 Will Be Getting Facebook One Click Login

We’re sure many of you Facebook users have been enjoying how simple it is to log into several applications with nothing more than a simple press of the Facebook one-click login feature. Sure – the app could potentially end up ruining your feed with notifications, but the price of convenience is pretty expensive these days. For now, only Android and iOS users have been able to enjoy the one-click login feature on their devices, but it looks like Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 may soon be benefiting from this feature as well. Free Laptop with Mobile Internet Contract?

This article was written on April 04, 2008 by CyberNet.

sprint laptop mockup It wasn’t that long ago that it was next to impossible to pickup a new laptop for under $1000, but now you can regularly find them for just a few hundred dollars. And there’s no arguing that people are becoming more and more connected thanks to the Internet access proved by cellphone networks. When you combine the falling prices of laptops with the increased connectivity what do you get?

Well, there is some thoughts that this could lead to wireless carriers offering free laptops when you sign a mobile Internet contract with them. It would work much the same way as buying a cellphone, where you get the device for free if you agree to stay with the carrier for a few years. And breaking the contract would obviously result in an early termination fee.

Will this takeoff? I think it has a good possibility because it would mean that the customers could upgrade every 18 to 24 months just like with cellphones. There would, of course, be the higher-end laptops that you could pay for, but you would still receive a significant rebate off of the original price.

The wireless carriers wouldn’t really suffer from doing this because it’s likely that they’ll use the same tactics that are used when selling cellphones. By that I mean they’ll increase the monthly plan price to compensate for the cost of the computer. It’s really no sweat off their backs, and I’m sure plenty of businesses and consumers would love being able to upgrade their laptops regularly without any hassle.

The selection probably wouldn’t be the best, and so this likely wouldn’t appeal to me. What do you think though?

Updated XPS 13 Ultrabooks Are Now Available

Updated XPS 13 Ultrabooks Are Now AvailableThe Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook was released sometime in the middle of last year, which means it is time for a hardware refresh. It could not come at a timelier manner, too, as Christmas is coming, so for those who are on the lookout for an Ultrabook from the likes of Dell, you might just want to cast an eye on the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook. The updated XPS 13 Ultrabook will now feature touchscreen display to keep up with the times, and you can be sure that a new bunch of Haswell processors underneath the hood will go a long way in making sure that it will be worth purchasing as it can last longer in terms of battery life due to the more power efficient architecture.

Do expect it to ship with Windows 8.1 on board, although there is still the option for those who want the XPS 13 that does not arrive with a touchscreen display, so that will arrive with Windows 7 Home Premium in tow. I would like to think that it is far better to get on with the rest of the program out there, and to purchase the most recent or updated version of any particular hardware. We have reviewed the older Dell XPS 13 before. [Press Release]

    Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Review

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Review Lenovo introduced its original Yoga back in late 2012, which we were impressed with its ability to create an ultrabook that is able to have multiple functions, such as its ability to be used as a tablet or a stand. Since then, Lenovo re-introduced its Yoga as the Yoga 2 Pro, which improved on many of the ultrabooks internal specs, such as including Intel’s new 4th-generation Haswell processor, offering a QHD+ 3200 x 1800 display and some other fancy bells and whistles to make this appeal to fans of the original Yoga. We were able to go hands on with the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro just a few months ago, and after our short time with the tablet, we were left pretty impressed with some of the company’s improvements to the Yoga. With that said, let’s just see how impressed we’re left with the Yoga 2 Pro after we throw it to our hungry review wolves. I’m not sure what that meant. Let’s just get on with your review without the use of wolves, shall we? (more…)

    Cybercrime Center By Microsoft

Cybercrime Center By Microsoft Microsoft has come up with a spanking new Cybercrime Center headquarters as part of their efforts to highlight its fight against cybercrime. This particular project has also been admitted by Microsoft to be a “CSI kind of place,” where it does seem to be focused on building awareness of potential threats as well as promoting Microsoft’s efforts when it comes to the non-stop fight against cybercrime. Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit general counsel David Finn said, “It’s like a functional movie set.But there is real-life cybercrime going on, and these are real-life labs to fight it in a cutting-edge way. This is not a TV show – we have important cases we’re working on right now, right on the other side of the window.”

Microsoft figured out that around half of online adults have fallen under the shadow of cybercrime in the past year, and cybercrime itself is said to cost the global economy up to $500 billion each year – now that is certainly a whole lot of money. Those who drop by the headquarters will be treated with information about specific cases which Microsoft did work on, where among them include the Citadel botnet which was believed to have infected millions of computers, and it was used to steal around $500 million from businesses and individuals. Intel Set To Open Own Retail Stores Soon

Apple has experienced a pretty significant degree of success with their Apple Stores, and it does seem as though the good people over at Intel, too, want a piece of the physical retail store pie. In the video above, you will see that Intel has every intention to reach out to the masses through a similar modus operandi – by opening up their very own retail stores, too. Intel exec John Wallace did share some details concerning the Intel Experience Store plan, with the first location set to open this November 23rd (that is just less than a fortnight away!) in New York City’s NoLita area.

Unfortunately, not much else is known about this particular range of Intel stores, but we are pretty sure that you won’t be able to find any iOS devices on sale in there. Do expect to see an Ultrabooks galore area over there, and we sure as heck hope that there will be additional store locations revealed to us in the days and weeks ahead. Will it be able to take off with a similar level of success as with Apple’s physical retail stores? Only time will be able to answer that particular question. We do wonder just which computer vendors would want to sell their wares there, too.

HP Chromebook 11 Sales Stopped, Overheating Chargers To Blame

HP Chromebook 11 Sales Stopped, Overheating Chargers To BlameWe did report earlier on concerning the number of HP Chromebook 11 units which were yanked off the shelves of Best Buy as well as other retailers. Back then, not a single reason was given at all, but it seems that time has proven to be the great teacher yet again as we discovered that the reason these Chromebook 11s were removed from store shelves is this – overheating chargers, not something to be trifled with for sure.

This move was taken by HP and Google after they discovered that a small number of users have reported that their chargers were damaged because of overheating while still in use. It is a prudent step to take by Google, as the Internet search giant has recommended those who already own a Chromebook to stop using the charger which arrived alongside the Chromebook 11, and instead, to make use of a third party micro USB charger. Now is this a temporary turn of the proverbial tables, or what? Should you happen to be in possession of a phone or tablet charger, chances are pretty good that it will play nice with the Chromebook 11. Hopefully this particular mess will be sorted out sooner rather than later, so hold your Chromebook 11 horses in the meantime!
