Apple Said To Have Begun OS X 10.10 Development

Apple Said To Have Begun OS X 10.10 Development

Earlier this year at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2013, Apple unveiled OS X 10.9 Mavericks, its latest platform update for Mac. With this update, the company moves away from its tradition of naming the releases after cats, such as Snow Leopard, Mountain Lion and the likes. There are also a number of new features in this update, which is yet to be released to the public. Rumor has it that after seeding OS X 10.9 Mavericks GM build last week, work on OS X 10.10 has already begun at One Infinite Loop.

No fancy name has been attached as yet to OS X 10.10, which is likely to be unveiled next year. It will be the next major software update from Apple for Mac. It is said that OS X 10.10 will continue with the trend of bringing design elements from iCloud and iOS to the desktop. Apple is expected to stick to its tradition of making software related announcements at WWDC, so its highly likely that OS X 10.10 will be unveiled alongside iOS 8 at WWDC 2014. As far as OS X 10.9 is concerned, the company is yet to provide a concrete release date, though it is expected that Mavericks will drop towards the end of this month. Mac users have been anxiously waiting for this update, which brings more than 200 new features for compatible Mac machines.

OS X Mavericks GM Build Released

OS X Mavericks GM Build ReleasedAccording to our earlier report, Apple recently seeded the OS X Mavericks Build 13A598 to members of the AppleSeed testing program. While Apple has been diligently releasing beta builds of OS X Mavericks, this was particularly interesting as it had dropped the “Developer Preview” tag from the name, suggesting that the software could soon be out of beta and a Golden Master build would be released soon. What we did not expect was that by soon, it meant only a few hours later. Yup, it looks like Apple has since posted the 13A598 build to registered Mac developers and are referring to that build as the GM build, which essentially would be the same version the end user can expect once it is released to the public.

As noted from our report earlier, this particular build did not contain major changes, but rather some minor tweaks and bug fixes, suggesting that the build was close to being out of beta. Apple had originally targeted an October release for OS X Mavericks and with the Golden Master build now available for Mac developers, we expect a public release could be in the near future. There are reports suggesting that AppleCare staff are currently undergoing training which is expected to be completed by the 11th of October, so perhaps OS X Mavericks will see a release after that.

TDK Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording Boosts HDD Capacity (HAMR)

TDK Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording Boosts HDD Capacity (HAMR)At CEATEC Japan, TDK was demonstrating HAMR (heat-assisted magnetic recording), a technology designed to dramatically increase the data density of mechanical hard drives. Hard drives are typically limited by how much bits of information they can safely store per square inch of each platter surface (HDDs can feature many platters or disks). Since the information is saved as a magnetic polarity, attempting to pack too much information in a tight space may result in weird analog interferences that ends up breaking down individual bits of information and effectively corrupt the data. Latest OS X Mavericks Beta Drops “Developer Preview” Tag

Latest OS X Mavericks Beta Drops Developer Preview TagIt has been widely believed that Apple’s latest operating system, OS X Mavericks, would see a release sometime later this month, although specific release dates have yet to be given, but it looks like those rumors could come true as the ninth beta of Mavericks has since been released to those participating in the program. Interestingly enough the latest release has dropped the “Developer Preview” from its name, suggesting that work on the software could be drawing to a close and possibly meeting its rumored October release.

The latest build is 13A598 which is close to the previous release, 13A584, indicating that there has not been major changes made to the operating system, apart from some minor tweaks which we guess is to be expected. Once again this points to the fact that it is possible that the beta could be in its final stages and it shouldn’t be too long before a Golden Master build of the operating system is announced. We’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled but until we hear from Apple officially, try not to get your hopes up just yet.

    Mitsubishi 100Gbps Optical Network Interconnect

Mitsubishi 100Gbps Optical Network Interconnect[CEATEC 2013] I do admit, nobody in this day and age would miss those good old days when you had to actually own a landline in order to connect to the Internet via an Internet Service Provider. Remember the username and password that were required before dialing it? Your ears subsequently met with a shrill shriek of the modem, and if you had a 56k modem then, it was the bomb, while your mates surfed to a 14.4k or 28.8k modem. Ask any kid today whether they would want to experience the Internet as it was back then, and they will most probably look at you and wonder, just how the heck did you survive in those days?

Mitsubishi is certainly a company that has the future in mind, where at CEATEC this year, they decided to show off a 100 gigabit/second (Gbps) inter-city optical interconnect solution. This sounds like a dream for many people, and even better is the fact that this unique optical network interconnect has an amazing range. Just how far is its reach? You might want to sit down before the shock floors you, as Mitsubishi proudly claims that their 100Gbps optical network interconnect has a massive range of up to 9,000 kilometers. That’s just insane!
