T3’s Samsung Galaxy Gear Concept

Yes, so we do know that there is an upcoming smartwatch from Samsung, where it will be known as the Samsung Galaxy Gear, and will this supposed pre-emptive strike against Apple’s fabled iWatch be able to kick off a whole new industry or niche market, just like how Apple’s iPad changed the way tablets were viewed? The folks over at T3 have come up with a conceptual look at the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and even shooting a video of their concept in addition to the possible “machinations” that is capable of – including built-in S Voice for maps as well as answering calls, reading and responding to messages, telling the time (like it is supposed to as a watch) in a peaceful, idyllic manner when you aren’t doing anything else, all displayed on a flexible AMOLED screen.

Assuming Samsung is able to churn something out like this, then the Samsung Galaxy Gear could very well be a major hit for sure – although like many things in life, some of the surest things I have had did not even materialize, but rather, it strayed extremely far away from my intended conclusion. All we need to do now is wait for the September 4th event for the tell-all.

Audi Quattro Sport E-Tron Hybrid Concept Car

Audi Quattro Sport E Tron Hybrid Concept CarIt is just a matter of weeks before the Frankfurt Motor Show kicks off to much fanfare, and I am quite sure that motorheads would be looking forward to this particular event, seeing just what the automotive giants of our day have up their sleeves – or should we say, garages, to tempt us away from our hard earned money. Audi has jumped the gun, however, by unveiling the first details for its new Quattro Sport E-Tron. The Audi might be a hybrid concept car, but it is still a beast that packs 700 horsepower underneath the hood, now how about that?

The electric engine of the Quattro Sport E-Tron would serve a couple of purposes. Firstly, it is mean to send the car’s twin-turbo V8 up to it’s 200 mph top speed, and the other is to offer a zero-emission all-electric option. Whenever it runs on the electric motor alone, the E-Tron is capable of a safe range of 21.7 miles, which is a step in the right direction where electric sports cars are concerned. More exciting is the fact that this is just a concept, so who knows? Should it materialize as the real deal one day, it should, on paper, be a whole lot more impressive than what you read here today.

Researchers Discover Technique For Mobile Devices To Run On Radio Waves

Researchers Discover Technique For Mobile Devices To Run On Radio Waves

We know how important battery life is for a pretty much any device you carry around, whether it be a smartphone, laptop or handheld gaming system. One of the last things anyone wants to go through is having 5% battery life on their device when they really need to use it. But researchers at the University of Washington have come up with a way to allow mobile devices to essentially grab power from the air. (more…)

Concept BlackBerry “Peek Holster” Looks Pretty Sleek

Concept BlackBerry Peek Holster Looks Pretty SleekOne of the cool features of BlackBerry devices in general that we wish most phones would incorporate, would be a LED light that blinks when you have a notification, which makes it easier and provides a more subtle way of informing the user rather than having to activate the phone just to check. Unfortunately when placed into a case, the notification LED can sometimes be hidden, which is why this concept case by Steve Purvey, a design intern for BlackBerry, is a pretty clever idea.

As you can see in the image above, this “peek holster” covers most of the phone, except for a small portion at the side that shows you what sort of notifications you have, i.e. email, text, missed calls, and etc. It also comes with a tiny cutout at the top right where the LED light can blink through, just in case you did not want to activate your phone’s screen to see the notifications. We have to say that this is a pretty awesome idea and not only is the case functional, it looks pretty sleek as well! Unfortunately like we said, it is only a concept and there’s no telling if BlackBerry will ever turn it into an actual product, but what do you guys think?

Samsung Smart Watch Concept Is Based On Recent Patent

Samsung Smart Watch Concept Is Based On Recent PatentCome IFA 2013, we expect that Samsung could be announcing their Galaxy Note 3 and their smart watch whose name remains unknown, although names such as “GEAR” and “Galaxy Gear” have been filed as trademarks, suggesting that those are some of the possible names of the device. While we’re sure many are wondering what the device could look like upon its release, you might recall that last week we reported on a patent filed by Samsung which suggested that the watch could sport a flexible display, and the image above is a rendering of the device based on the description of the patent.

The rendering was created by discount website, Voucher Code Pros, and it should be noted that there’s no way of telling if this will actually be the final result although based on what we see it does not look too bad, but what do you guys think? If the final product were to look something like this, would this be a product you could see yourself purchasing?

NASA Experiments with Oculus Rift & Virtuix Omni: One Small Step for VR

Gamers and game developers alike are excited about the potential of the Oculus Rift headset and the Virtuix Omni walking surface. But these virtual reality devices have applications beyond gaming. The Human Interfaces Group of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory used both devices to make simulations of space environments.

In an interview with Engadget, Human Interfaces Engineer Victor Luo said that they used a stereoscopic 360º panorama of Mars taken by Curiosity, satellite imagery of the red planet and development kits of the Rift and Omni to create an immersive virtual tour of Mars (or at least part of it). They also made a similar experiment for the interior of the International Space Station, but they used the Rift by itself to emphasize the feeling of floating in zero gravity.

While the experiment showed the potential of VR, Luo also said that they needed devices that had more sensors built-in before they can consider actually using them as tools. At the very least, I think their experiments can inspire a couple of VR games. Watch out for Curiosity Simulator and Dead Space: ISS. Oh wait, we already have the first one.

Expiring Medication Packaging Lets You Know When It’s Unsafe To Take

Expiring Medication Packaging Lets You Know When It's Unsafe To Take

When you’re suffering through a cold or fever, you don’t always have the presence of mind to check the expiration date of your meds as you rifle through the medicine cabinet. But finding and decoding when your meds have gone bad isn’t always easy, especially when you’re under the weather. So designers Kanupriya Goel and Gautam Goel have envisioned a new type of medication packaging that also expires, providing easy to interpret clues that the meds have gone bad.

Psychedelic Space Station Concepts from the 70s Will Blow Your Mind

Forty years ago, America was still reeling from the astronomical success of the moon mission and high on the idea that space age innovations would keep happening at a breakneck pace. Well, we got the shuttle, and we got the Mars rover(s). What we did not get, however, were mind-bending super space stations capable of holding entire civilizations inside.

Digital Memorial Cemetery Concept Archives Your Life Into A Flash Drive

Digital Memorial Cemetery Concept Archives Your Life Into A Flash DriveThe great mystery of life after death is something we’re sure many of us have thought about. While we can’t say with certainty as to what waits for us at the other side, it is at least possible for us to think about how we’d like to be remembered. For the most part it’s relatively traditional where one can choose to be buried, cremated, have their ashes thrown into the sea, and etc., but given how far along we are technologically, shouldn’t our death be somewhat hi-tech as well?
