iOS 7 App Switcher Concept Looks Useful

It was only a few versions of iOS ago that Apple introduced the app switcher. While it was a welcome addition, there are definitely some changes that could be made to make it more useful and efficient, and this iOS 7 app switcher concept by Jesse Head might be worth taking a look at. It seems that according to the YouTube comments, some of these features can already be had if you were to jailbreak your device, but then again we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple borrowed some ideas from the jailbreak community.

So basically what this concept involves is that instead merely display icons at the bottom, the apps can be viewed in tiles with a live preview, so that users will be able to swap between apps and see where they left off, or if there are changes. Swiping up will close the app, making it a quicker solution compared to the press and hold technique, and there will be toggles and controls, such as to toggle WiFi, Bluetooth, music controls and etc. It’s pretty cool and if you’ve got a couple of minutes, check it out in the video above.

This Lamp’s Dimmer Switch Is a Scale

Hyundai to reveal HND-9 concept at Seoul Motor Show

The Seoul Motor Show is coming up next week, and there will obviously be a handful of new cars to be unveiled on the show floor during the week, one of which will be Hyundai‘s HND-9 coupe concept. It’s said that the design of the concept will be meant as inspiration for Hyundai’s upcoming vehicles — possibly a next-generation Genesis.

Hyundai says that this design of the HND-9 is described as a “modern reinterpretation of the classic premium sports coupe,” and we’d have to agree with them. The concept has the classic Lambo-style doors, as well as the fastback-esque rear design, with the dual exhaust on the back, along with the mean-looking taillights.

The concept that will be making an appearance at the Seoul Motor Show will sport a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 GDI engine that spits out 365 BHP, and it’ll be accompanied by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Of course, this may not be the exact setup that will come to production vehicles in the future, but it could be template.

We’ve already seen a couple of Hyundai’s concepts over the last few months. The company showed off their HCD-14 sedan concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit back in January, as well as their Veloster C3 hatchback concept back in November, both of which look really sleek.

Fan-made iOS 7 Concept Is Stunning

With Apple’s design guru Jony Ive taking the lead on iOS, we’re sure that many are excited as to what sort of changes Ive will be able to bring to the table come iOS 7 which based on past releases, should be announced at this year’s WWDC sometime in June. While we doubt that there will be an extensive overhaul, we are hoping that Ive will be able to bring some of his design magic to the software, but in the meantime Mohamed Kerroudj has come up with an iOS 7 concept of his own which we can only wish was real.

Gone is the skeuomorphic design that was used extensively not just in iOS, but OS X. Instead Kerroudj’s concept seems to have taken design cues from Google and Windows Phone, making this iOS 7 concept very clean, minimal and “flat”. If you have a couple of minutes to spare, be sure to check out the concept videos above and after the break, and be sure to leave your comments below on what you guys think! (more…)

Loupe Remote Concept Shows Us What Next Generation Remotes Should Be Like

Loupe Remote Concept Shows Us What Next Generation Remotes Should Be Like

Remote controls haven’t been revolutionized the way smartphones and tablets have. Perhaps it is high time that they’re taken care of. The Loupe next-generation TV remote is an interesting new concept which shows us with the future should be for remotes. The design is beautiful and sleek, it looks wonderful. The idea behind this concept is that the remote should let the user control all aspects of entertainment through a touchscreen that can be customized. The allows the user to search guides, manage and access content straight from the 1136×640 resolution Gorilla glass display.

The Loupe remote concept details a lengthy list of specifications. These include an 8 megapixel autofocus camera with five element lens and touch to focus, full 1080p HD video recording and the ability to take still photos while recording. Voice recognition will ensure a hands-off experience, so users can have control over their entertainment without having to take their hands off the nachos. The concept is good, despite being heavy on the features. Though some of these features might sound a bit far fetched to have on a remote, it is interesting to see various ideas about how we can make remote controls in the not so distant future.

Some Law Of the Universe Is Being Broken When This Chair and Stool Stack

This Extremely Small, Smart, Phone Keyboard Would Be Amazing… If It Actually Works

Phone and tablet keyboards are humongous, relative to the screens they live on, and admittedly adhere to an antiquated typewriter metaphor. Minuum is a new way to think about how to make a digital keyboard—tiny and forgiving, mostly—but also highlights just how damn hard it is to come up with something better. More »

Cheap iPhone Concept Features 4-Inch Display, Multiple Colors

Cheap iPhone Concept Features 4 Inch Display, Multiple Colors

Apple’s budget iPhone has been rumored for several months now, the latest of which suggest the device would have a 4-inch display like the iPhone 5, and possibly come in a number of colors. The latter rumor sparked Dutch website iPhoneclub to commission Martin Hajek to come up with some concepts showing what a multi-colored budget iPhone would look like.

What Hajek came up with looks pretty nice, even though he only came up with two additional colors for the budget iPhone: red and a light teal. Both of the concept budget iPhones also feature a 4-inch display and looks great sitting next to the iPhone 5. You can also catch the surrounding of the budget iPhones are made of plastic, unlike the iPhone 5′s completely metal surrounding. (more…)

Fraunhofer SIT: Key2Share, Smartphones as a Keyring

[CeBIT 2013] Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT) was demoing an interesting mobile technology at CeBIT and Alexandra Dmitrienko, Research Assistant on the project, showed me a demo (check out the video). Key2Share is a token-based and NFC-based access control system for smartphones. A NFC-enabled smartphone user can be granted access rights or to delegate such rights to other smartphone users.

The access rights are transferred using QR codes sent via email or MMS, or even printed out. Additionally, users get a login/password to activate the code.  According to Fraunhofer SIT, Key2Share technology take advantage of resource efficient cryptographic protocols that addresses the bandwidth constraint of the NFC standard.
