GPS brogue shoes guide you to your destination

Getting GPS navigation on your smartphone or tablet is cool but it can be weary to look on the screen every other minute to find the next turn towards your destination. Imagine how convenient it would be if you could somehow tell your shoes about your destination and they guided you towards it. No more peeking at GPS screens every other second.

Such is the concept design of GPS brogue shoes that has been proposed by a British designer, Dominic Wilcox. The idea is to upload a destination to these shoes and then help them ‘light’ the right path for you. (more…)

NASA Needs This Fantastic Spationery in Its Gift Shop [Wish You Were Here]

Since it’s totally pre-occupied with its latest rover roaming the surface of Mars, we figured we’d give NASA a hand, specifically when it comes to restocking its gift shop. Unfortunately, South Korean designer Jeongmi Lee’s lovely space-themed Spacionery office accessories don’t exist yet. But NASA put a man on the moon and a robot on Mars—it can certainly make this happen. More »

There’s No Way This Ridiculous Hot Tub Exercise Bike Is Real [Video]

The fitness industry thrives by preying on people’s insecurities about their bodies. It means even the craziest of contraptions—from Thigh Masters to Tae-Bo dummies—fly off the shelves. But who in their right mind would drop over $18,000 on this hot tub-wrapped Fit-Wet exercise bike that flushes itself after every use? (What are they expecting people to do in there?) More »

The TaG mask concept combines a smoke detector and a smoke mask into one device

While smoke detectors for some of us are nuisances when trying to cook, its purpose is to detect smoke and alert people in the house/area to it. Unfortunately in some situations, a fire could have already been building in a room a few doors away and by the time we have been alerted to it, the smoke could be very thick, thus making it hard for us to breathe. Called the TaG (Take and Go) mask, this is a smoke detector concept designed by Germain Verbrackel and it combines a smoke detector with a mask that will help us breathe even when the smoke is engulfing us. As you can see in the rendering, it has been shaped like a mask and even comes built with a sonorous locator and flashing LED lights that will also help rescuers locate those who might have passed out. Pretty nifty, huh? Unfortunately it appears to be a concept for now, but we think it’s a great idea and should be put into production!

This vacuum cleaner concept is half broom, half vacuum cleaner

While vacuum cleaners do a much more efficient job at cleaning up dust compared to brooms, they can be quite heavy and ungainly and aren’t as agile. However thanks to designer Patrick Pedrosa, it seems like we have managed to reach some sort of compromise. Unfortunately it’s only a concept but hopefully some manufacturer will pick up on it and turn it into a real product one day. As you can see in the rendering above, this vacuum cleaner concept marries the slim profile of a broom with the suction power of a vacuum cleaner. It comes with multiple hoses at the end which we assume can be used to “sweep” the floor or upholstery for dust. It comes with its own recharging dock which has apparently been designed to look like a bucket. It’s very sleek and looks pretty modern and we certainly wouldn’t mind having this in our homes. What do you guys think?

London Airport Floating The Thames Estuary Proposed

London’s Heathrow Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. It has two runways and both of them operate at 98% of their capacity which essentially means that the airport is already being utilized to its maximum. To tackle a bump in air traffic in the near future, London will inevitably need a new airport or expansion of the current one.

This is where the idea of an architectural firm, Gensler, comes in. The company has proposed the idea of a floating London airport right in the middle of Thames Estuary. Naturally, the project is (very!) highly ambitious and carries an estimated price tag of $80 billion. The structure of this proposed airport would be firmly entrenched into the seabed rather than linking it up with any land. (more…)

NexPhone Combines the functionality of smartphone, tablet, laptop and PC

With so many tech gadgets available today, it often becomes hard to keep track of all the data across all these devices. For your 24/7 work, you need to have a smartphone. A laptop needed for more professional tasks whereas a tablet has to be there to be carried along. Finally, a PC is also a must-have for some heavy-duty work and hard-core gaming.

Asus tried to come up with an apt solution when it unveiled its PadFone. PadFone is essentially a smartphone-tablet-laptop. It is basically a smartphone which can be turned into a tablet, and finally into a laptop with the help of additional extensions. But the NexPhone Project aims to take things a step even farther. The Chewing Gum Battery concept looks incredibly handy

Battery packs for smartphones tend to add unnecessary bulk to the device, making it thicker and heavier than it already is. Mobile chargers too can be quite bulky and heavy and do always fit into your pocket, thus requiring you to bring a bag wherever you go. However thanks to designer Ping-Yi Li, this Chewing Gum Battery concept was conceived where the battery is shaped as thin and flat as a chewing gum, just minus the sugary goodness and edible nature. As pictured in the rendering above, the Chewing Gum Battery can be slapped onto the back of our gadgets, thus giving them the extra boost in battery life. They will be sold at solar-powered dispensing stations and will come like chewing gums do, in a pack. Sounds pretty novel but the idea of being able to purchase batteries from a vending machine that will give our phones, cameras, or laptops that extra hour or two of battery life sure seems rather handy! What do you guys think?
