Mitsubishi EMIRAI 2 Concept Car To Go On Display At Tokyo Motor Show

Nearly a couple of years ago, we were treated to a look at the EMIRAI conceptual car interface from Mitsubishi. Well, it has been two years since, and we are pleased to announce that Mitsubishi themselves have come up with some progress concerning this concept. In fact, the EMIRAI 2 will be a whole concept car by itself, and if you happen to make your way to the Tokyo Motor Show that is happening over the course of this weekend, it will be on display there. This particular ride happens to continue from where the original EMIRAI left off, where it will still feature a rear projection customizable dashboard display, biometrics capabilities, as well as a complete sensor array.

The pair of EMIRAI 2 electric-vehicle concept cars that are on display should not be short of curious onlookers. One of the two will feature an EV powertrain, while the other would boast of a driving-assistance system which is touted to make driving on the road safer as well as more comfortable. Just what will the EV powertrain system come with? For starters, it will incorporate high-accuracy traction control as well as acceleration control, while the driving-assistance system would boast of an integrated image sensing in addition to powered on-board display technologies. It will be a sight and treat for motorheads for sure.

    Shama-Shades Are Solar-Powered Sunnies

Shama Shades Are Solar Powered SunniesThere is nothing quite like that particular spark of creativity in a budding young mind. Sometimes, we do take a look at a particular concept or idea and say to ourselves, “Now why didn’t I think about that before?” I guess this particular pair of modified sunglasses would fall comfortably right into that particular category. Students from the Miami Ad School in San Francisco have come up with the idea of installing solar panels onto an iconic Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses, enlisting the help of designer Sayalee Kaluskar to bring it to life, so to speak. This means each time you are out wearing the pair of Wayfarers, soaking up the sun, so too, will the solar panels on this bad boy.

The energy gathered by the solar panels will be able to come in handy down the road, especially when your smartphone or mobile device starts to run low on juice. In order to enjoy such a privilege, all you need to do is to detach the arms from the front frame of the sunglasses, where one end of it will feature a Lightning charger – making it a snap for you to plug it into your iPhone. Right now, this is but a concept, although we would not be surprised to see it manufactured on a large scale down the road, and not necessarily carrying an existing brand name for the pair of sunnies.

    ZTE Eco-Mobius Concept Modular Smartphone

ZTE Eco Mobius Concept Modular SmartphoneThe idea of a modular handset is not new at all, where just a couple of months back, we talked about the Phonebloks concept that certainly stoked the interest of many. Well, it seems that China-based ZTE Corporation might be on to something this time around with a conceptual idea of a possible modular smartphone. This conceptual device is known as the ZTE Eco-Mobius, and it sure as heck does seem to look pretty sweet, even picking up Red Dot Design Award along the way. Right at the heart of the Eco-Mobius, it will feature a quartet of main modules – the display, core, camera and battery.

It is different from Phonebloks as it does not use snap-on modules, but rather, you slide in the Eco-Mobius modules slide into place using tracks. The various components within each module including the CPU, GPU and RAM can also be attached magnetically. Everything about the ZTE Eco-Mobius has been specially designed to be replaceable and swappable so that wastage is reduced. One thing is for sure, this is one conceptual smartphone that we would like to see make a debut in the real world, and hopefully, at an affordable price point, too. ZTE, are you listening in on our cries?

    S3TR Personal Transport Concept

The idea of a personal transportation device has not really taken off in a big way. The Segway looked fun, but how many people do know actually own one of these puppies? I know that it does help those who find it a challenge to walk across long distances without getting tired. At CEATEC 2013 that concluded earlier last month, we also saw the likes of the Toyota Winglet which we took for a test run. Here is yet another viable option – the S3TR, which is described as the Streeter, which is an affordable, economical and fun personal transport concept.

The S3TR is meant to cater for those who live in urban areas where it takes a simple construction and different approach when it came to its design, resulting in a lower cost utilization as well as great fun for the user. The main purpose of existence for the S3TR would be to help the user be independent of public city transport, through the use of cycle tracks and sidewalks as and where permitted, or to function as indoor transport at aerodromes, warehouses or shopping malls. It can be folded for easy transportation, and is a snap to learn how to use. Pricing and availability details remain to be determined.

Sono Device Could Help With Noise Pollution

Sono Device Could Help With Noise PollutionThere are always two sides to a particular coin, and for those who happen to stay in a city, you would know that it has its fair share of perks, although there is also a number of drawbacks such as theft, feeling unsafe in certain segments of the city, as well as noise pollution. Some folks have already gotten used to the noise pollution, but for others, it can be pretty difficult to get to bed with the sound of vehicles all below, party goers who do not know when to stop revelling downstairs, and the ilk. Here is a conceptual device that might come in handy one day – the Sono, where it relies on a technology which is similar to the kind found in noise-cancelling headphones.

You will be able to filter out sounds that you would want to listen to, such as the chirping of birds, or perhaps a passing ice cream truck. The sound preferences can be adjusted thanks to a circular scroll panel that is located on the face of the device. This is a window-mounted device that relies on a high-frequency laser microphone that picks up sounds which trouble you, where it will then send out sounds of its own at 180 degrees, cancelling it before it arrives at your window – and your ears, of course. It comes with a suction cup mount that has an “energy antenna” which has been embedded within to gather electromagnetic activity so that it can be used as power to accompany that of its internal battery.

This Driving, Flying, and Swimming Drone Is a Real-Life Transformer

If you bumped into your eight-year-old self on the street and told him that actual Transformers would walk—fly, crawl, and swim—the planet within his lifetime, your eight-year-old self’s head would probably explode. But shape-shifting autonomous robots are exactly what’s in the works at the Sandia National Laboratory.

Car Mode Concept Introduces Road Safety For iPhone Users

Car Mode Concept Introduces Road Safety For iPhone UsersAll smartphones these days comes with an Airplane Mode, which basically disables the phone’s radios and in some cases turns WiFi off. This is great when you’re travelling on the plane and want to use your phone, or in situations where you want to conserve your phone’s battery, but what about a Car Mode? Designers Joey Cofone and Michael Vanderbyl have come up with a concept called Car Mode, which is basically a phone’s state in which it has been designed with road safety in mind. Car Mode will activate when your iPhone pairs with the car’s Bluetooth system and will offer hands-free calls and turn-by-turn navigation.

The kicker here is that all notifications will be disabled, meaning that sounds and alerts that you should be receiving when a call or message arrives on your phone will be turned off, thus keeping you more focused on the road rather than on your phone. Text messages sent to your phone will automatically be replied stating that you are driving and are currently in Car Mode, letting the other person know that you are unable to receive their call or reply their messages. Once the car stops and the ignition is turned off, your phone will then display all the notifications that you have received whilst driving.

As it stands a feature similar to this currently exists in Windows Phone devices and the Moto X, so we guess the ball’s in Apple’s court, along with other Android OEMs, to implement this feature. What do you guys think?

iPhone Air Concept Takes Design Inspiration From The iPad Air

iPhone Air Concept Takes Design Inspiration From The iPad AirWith Apple calling their latest iPad the iPad Air in lieu of its lightness and thinness, can we expect Apple to give their next iPhone the same treatment as well? While that remains unknown at this point in time, Federico Ciccarese of Ciccarese Design have come up with a concept that he is calling the iPhone Air. It’s a bit hard to tell from these photos, but presumably his take on the next-gen iPhone will make it thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the iPhone 5s. His design also appears to be inspired by the iPad Air’s design, which is to say that the back of the iPhone will be more tapered, as opposed to its current design which features more hard lines rather than gentle tapers.

We have to say that this particular design is pretty nice and sleek and could even pass off as one of Jony Ive’s designs, but what do you guys think? According to the rumors, some believe that Apple’s next-gen iPhone will make a leap from its 4” display to that of a massive 4.8” one in a bid to keep up with their Android competition, namely Samsung, who has been pretty successful with their large display devices. Over the years Apple has made gradual improvements and changes to its iPhone, and a jump from 4” to 4.8” would definitely throw many people off, but at the same time we’re sure there are iPhone users out there who wouldn’t mind a larger display.

Samsung Shows Concepts For Smartphones With Flexible Displays

Samsung Shows Concepts For Smartphones With Flexible DisplaysAfter much waiting around and listening to the rumors, both South Korean tech giants, Samsung and LG, have taken the wraps off their smartphones that take advantage of curved displays. For Samsung it is the Galaxy Round, while LG’s take on curved displays resulted in the LG G Flex, with both models being based off current devices by the two companies, the Galaxy Note 3 and LG G2 respectively. In any case it seems that smartphones with curved displays are somewhat of a novelty, but apart from the fact that they might be tougher and harder to break, what other practical uses are there? Well Samsung decided to share a few concept smartphones with flexible displays with the folks over at OLED.at.

One of the concepts, pictured above, shows a smartphone that looks like it has been inspired by flip phones during the feature phone era, which we guess is kind of the point as the flexible displays would allow the phone to be folded up, thus transforming a device with a large display into something more pocket-friendly. This is just one of the concepts but we have to admit that it is an interesting one. We’re not sure how long it will take before flexible phones like the one above are a reality because not only does the screen have to be flexible, but other components as well, such as its battery and its circuitry, but in the meantime what do you guys think?
