Noise-Canceling Windows Could One Day Become A Reality

Noise-canceling headphones aren’t exactly a new technology as many of us have made it through their day with the ability to listen to their tunes and nothing else around them. The problem with noise-canceling headphones is if you’re using them at home to drown out sounds coming from outside, you might miss some important sounds such as a fire alarm, the FedEx guy ringing your doorbell or your wife ordering you to take out the trash for the third time today. But if this Sono concept device becomes an actual consumer product, we could live in a world where noisy neighbors probably won’t bother us as much as they currently do.

iWatch Concept Takes Design Inspiration From Nike’s FuelBand

iWatch Concept Takes Design Inspiration From Nikes FuelBandWe have seen a couple of iWatch concepts and for the most part, they look like your typical watch/smartwatches albeit with a pretty sleek interface. However what if Apple’s iWatch did not actually look like a watch? Wouldn’t that be a nice twist to the proceedings? Well that’s pretty much what Thomas Bogner did with his own mockup of the iWatch (as pictured above). His interpretation of the iWatch appears to share a very similar design philosophy to Nike’s FuelBand, albeit with what appears to be a touchscreen interface where users will be able to swipe in between the modes, such as switching between the time, apps, music controls, and etc.

According to Bogner, he claims that his design is something of a “bastard child of a Fuel Band and an iPhone”, and that by using the FuelBand, it got him thinking as to what he thinks a smartwatch could look like, and the type of functionality that it offers. It is admittedly a good idea, especially if you thought that accessories like the Nike FuelBand and Jawbone Up have been nicely designed, although its doesn’t doesn’t exactly scream Apple, but we suppose that’s what concepts are for. What do you guys think? Is this an iWatch design you would like to see made reality? Or do you prefer your smartwatches to actually look more like watches?

Would This Bike With Storage Inside the Front Wheel Even Be Rideable?

Would This Bike With Storage Inside the Front Wheel Even Be Rideable?

They don’t need gas, they can weave in and out of traffic, and you don’t even need a licence to ride one. But unless you tack on a set of panniers or a basket, bikes are notoriously lacking in storage space; a problem that Industrial Designer David Hotard might have eliminated with his novel Transport bike, which features trunk space inside the bike’s front wheel.

This Heads Up Display Lets You See Through the Truck in Front of You

This Heads Up Display Lets You See Through the Truck in Front of You

Is there anything more terrifying than attempting to pass a slow-moving truck on a two-lane road when you’re really not sure what’s waiting for you up ahead? Researchers at the University of Porto in Portugal don’t think so; they’ve come up with a clever system that could allow drivers of smaller vehicles to see right through large trucks and buses and know when it’s safe to pass.

Haiii-yah! Sharp Chop-Syc Chopping Board Is Interactive

Haiii yah! Sharp Chop Syc Chopping Board Is InteractiveDo you love Fruit Ninja? That is definitely one fun game to enjoy, with your finger acting as some sort of cleaver which will slice and dice fruits that float up magically in the air before being subjected to the law of gravity and falling back down to earth again. Basically, it brings the ordinary chopping board to life. Well, in real life, we tend to have wood or plastic as the materials of choice when it comes to our chopping boards, but a particular Sharp intern decided that life should be more fun than that. Apart from the choice of material, she hopes that both resolution and processor power will eventually end up as important choices for a chopping board, too, resulting in the Chop-Syc.

The Chop-Syc is the idea of a certain Siobhán Andrews, who happens to also be the winner of a competition that saw her end up as a paid intern with Sharp in the UK. Basically, the Chop-Syc would be a tablet that runs on a custom software, and it also boasts of a scratch-proof surface which allows it to be specifically used in a kitchen. Apart from that, it also doubles up as a surface for slicing and dicing, with the tablet being your electronic recipe book, functioning as a scale as well as visualizer so that you are better able to envision various food serving sizes. Right now it remains as a prototype, but it would be something to see it realized.

Microsoft Surface Blade Concepts Spotted In New Video

Don’t you just love concepts? We absolutely do. After all, when it comes to concepts, one does not have to think too much when it comes to hardware and software limitations at the moment, since you can go totally wild with your imagination, and let the engineers sort out whatever issues that would arise after that. It is fr this particular reason that we are interested in this short video that Microsoft released, where it depicted how a group of students over at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, were recruited simply to tap into their brains as they came up with concepts for “blades”. These “blades” happen to be the accessories which are able to hook up to the Surface range of tablets.

The video does offer a rather fascinating look into how these students were able to work all the way from concepts with their initial designs drawn on paper, to crude mock ups that came in a variety of shapes and sizes. Hey, isn’t variety the spice of life after all? Depending on which student you were to concentrate on, some of them came with a keyboard, while others had more interesting items such as a percussion and DJ set-up, an artist tool kit, a solar panel, a cash register and even a method so that a couple of folks are able to view a video in a 3D space. Will these concepts make it eventually to the market? Perhaps, but Microsoft does not have that much time to dabble around in the highly competitive tablet market space.

More People Would Camp If All Trailers Had Home Theaters

Heading into the great outdoors is supposed to be about getting away from it all. And for the most part, the campers and trailers from Germany’s Dethleffs let you do just that, and in relative comfort. But at the Dusseldorf Caravan show the company showed off its Mini Movie Campy concept; a portable home theater that brings even more of the comforts of home into the woods.

Zim, stylish and powerful Sub-$800 3D Printer with dual-head

Zim, stylish and powerful Sub $800 3D Printer with dual head

Last week, I met with Philippe Guglielmetti, CEO of Zeepro, the company behind the new consumer 3D printer Zim. Zeepro is successfully raising funds via Kickstarter to bring this sexy and powerful sub-$800 3D printer to market. Since Chris Anderson stated that “3D printing will be bigger than the web” when he left Wired in 2012, the desktop 3D printer battle is raging, and it feels like there is a new one popping up on Kickstarter every month.

I have not seen Zim in action yet, but just from the videos and the specifications, I am really impressed by the product design and the performance of this new comer in the personal 3D printing world.

Compared to the most popular devices currently available in this category, namely the Makerbot Replicator 2 and 2X, and the Cubify Cube and Cube X , the Zim performs better (on the paper) for a lower price point and a sleeker design. The $347 Pirate3D Bucaneer, which will only be available for pre-order in December, delivers an elegant and minimalistic design as well; however, it packs fewer features. You can support Zeepro via its Kickstarter campaign and get a Zim with one extruder for $599 or with 2 extruders for $799.
