The Indestructible Concrete LED Lamp You’ll Own For the Rest Of Your Life [Lighting]

Tired of accidentally knocking your bedside lamp to the ground in the middle of the night? Not only is that incredibly difficult with this heavy concrete O-Lite lamp, it also means the odds of it breaking as it hits the floor are slim to none. More »

O-Lite Concrete Accent Lamp Looks Great, Won’t Break the Bank

With the exception the occasional lighting fixture at IKEA, most cool modern lights are ridiculously overpriced for what they are. Here’s a case where you can get your hands on a cool accent light that looks amazing, and costs just 20 bucks.

Designed by CFabStudios, the O-Lite is a small (3-4″ high/3″ wide) accent light which is made out of discs of concrete. It’s powered by a small LED light source and outputs a warm glow for up to 20 hours on a single 9V battery.

At just $20(USD) a piece, you can buy several of these to place on your bookshelves, or possible in place of candles on your dining table. They’re available over on Etsy, where you can also find matching coasters and other accessories made from concrete. There’s also a plug-in lamp called the R-Lite for $10 more, but I think I prefer the look of the battery-operated design (which may also come in an AC version down the road.)

Your Metal Laptop Deserves a Throne of Concrete [Beautiful]

Aside from the inalienable fact that having things made of concrete on your desk is badass, there are countless reasons to love Greg Papove’s Foundation laptop stand made from processed rock. Maybe it’s that its inspiration comes from the concrete foundations of a house. Or that there are secret pockets to stash a phone or a harddrive. But the real gem here is that the concrete will absorb all that heat your laptop gives off and will theoretically keep it in fine running shape. No matter the reason, I want it. Concrete Watches Look Heavier Than They Are

Concrete is an interesting material, but I’ve never thought about using it to make watches. Paris-based designer Dzmitry Samal has launched a series of watches, with frames made out of the durable material.

All of the watches in this series are made partly out of concrete, using a patented technology. Each timepiece is made by hand in Switzerland, in limited editions of 100 to 150 pieces. He decided to use concrete since most cities use this material extensively, and reflects a similar urban sensibility in his dials.

The watches sell directly from his online shop for €980 to €1,240 (~$1,202 to $1,520 USD). That’s not too expensive as designer watches go – I expected these to cost a lot more, due to the uniqueness of the design and the limited edition run.

Concrete Watches Might Even Outlive Your Timex [Watches]

Timex boasts its watches can “take a licking and keep on ticking” but designer Dzmitry Samal has created a line of timepieces with durable concrete housings that can probably endure a lot more than just a licking. It’s just too bad that the cheap nature of concrete doesn’t carry over to making affordable watches. More »
