Bacon Press, Because… Bacon

Around these parts, we all love bacon. That goes without saying. We can’t get enough of it. We also can’t get enough bacon related merchandise. Or things to help us cook it better. The bacon press is a must have if you want to keep your bacon straight rather than curly.

This bacon press will keep your bacon down, like the man keeps you down, so that it fries up straight and delicious. It has a handle and is in the shape of a pig. There’s no better way to force your bacon straight.

Any press would work, but you need the pig. The right tool for the right job people. You can get it from Amazon or for about $12(USD).

Ecooking is a Vertical, Modular Kitchen: Everything AND the Kitchen Sink

As apartments and flats get smaller, the demand for compact and modular home furnishings consequently goes up. The latest of the bunch is the Ecooking, a vertical, modular kitchen that packs a number of appliances and storage spaces into a neat, floor-standing structure.

Ecooking1

Designed by Massimo Facchinetti, Ecooking serves as a hub for sustainable cooking. The design emphasizes energy saving and retrieval systems so that energy isn’t wasted when it’s in use. For starters, the entire kitchen is powered by energy produced by solar panels mounted on the system – taking advantage of skylights when possible.

A small vertical garden is installed on one wall of the module, so you can plant herbs and select produce to use in your dishes. Water from the sink is run through a filter, where it is used to run the dishwasher afterwards, saving water in the process.

Other features include a retractable tap that disappears into the sink when you’re not using it; a rotating hood that follows you around the room while you do your thing; and an air treatment system in the hood that purifies ambient air.

Can This Insulated Pillow Sack Really Replace a Slow Cooker?

Second only to the microwave as the appliance lazy chefs rely on most, the slow cooker is the easiest way to prepare a meal when you really don’t want to pay attention to the process. But the Wonderbag promises to further improve the joy of slow cooking by not requiring a power source to finish off a meal. What sorcery is this? More »

Power Mitt: Everything Else in Your Kitchen Is Child’s Play

While I’m sure most of you never had the *cough* pleasure of actually playing a game with the Nintendo/Mattel Power Glove, you can certainly pick a working one up over on eBay if you’ve got about $100 kicking around. But why would you want to play such a mediocre game as Super Glove Ball, when you can bake some Super Mario Bros. cookies instead?

With Fangamer’s Power Mitt, you’ll be cooking with gas! The searing heat of baking sheets stands no chance against this Power Glove inspired oven mitt, designed by Jon Kay. And just like the original, you’re pretty much SOL if you’re left-handed. Though Fangamer is at least considering a version for lefties if there’s enough demand. Or if you’re Fred Savage.

The Power Mitt is just $15(USD) over at Fangamer.

Smart Herb Garden Grows Herbs, Vegetables Without Sun Or Soil

Smart Herb Garden Grows Herbs, Vegetables Without Sun Or Soil

Being able to grow a garden if you’re a shut-in is pretty much impossible considering how much light plants need on a regular basis. But a new garden called the Smart Herb Garden may allow those of you who completely shun the daylight to finally be able to grow those “herbs” you’ve been dying to have.

The Smart Herb Garden uses an LED growing lamp to grow your herbs and a few select vegetables without any need for that dastardly sun. All you need to do is snap in your plant cartridges, fill in the water reservoir, and sit back to have the Smart Herb Garden do all of the actual growing for you. The garden doesn’t even use soil as it uses a nanotech material that’s been specifically engineered to supply the plant’s roots with the amount of oxygen, water and other nutrients it needs to grown. Del Ben Primitive Knife: Cut Like Your Stone Age Ancestors Did

Cutting implements have been around since the Stone Age, but this is the first knife that I’ve seen that seeks to replicate the experience of using a flint tool. The simple design allows for multiple uses in the kitchen.

del ben primitive knife

Created by Italian designer Michele Daneluzzo, the Del Ben Primitive Knife has got no obvious handle. Its entire leading edge is a blade. You can use it to delicately slice off the skin of fish or to hack and slash meat as well as veggies.

The top edge thickens into a rounded edge, making the knife easy to grasp, though one does have to wonder if the knife is more likely to slip out of your hand than one with a traditional handle.

The Primitive was designed by Michele while he was a student at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, but it’s being turned into a real product by Del Ben.
